Title: Understanding Electronic and Mechanical locks
Post by: ProgrammerHero on September 30, 2013, 01:54:37 am
I am doing a blind let's play of the game (only briefly checked a couple of wiki pages and avoiding all spoilers on the forum) and I am having trouble understanding the locked doors/crates in the game.  When I clicked on one such box it stated "Locked (electronics 17)" and I have 19 Electronics skill, but it wouldn't open.  I am clearly misunderstanding the system here, so if its not looking at my electronics skill, is it looking at my hacking skill instead, or something else?  And how does a "Locked (mechanical 17)" door work?

mechanical is used for lockpicks, while a haxxor you can get from ezra is used for electrical. Uses skills lockpick and hacking respectively. Mechanical is refering to a standard key lock while electric refers to a computerized lock you have to hack into. Also, you need batteries to charge up the haxxor.

Took me a few tries to figure it out, but made sense once I thought about it.

Electronics in and of itself is used for crafting, but gives a bonus to hacking as well.
