Suggestions / Constantine Component Requests
« on: January 19, 2023, 02:01:42 pm »
With Oculus being an organization that has operations all around the Underrail and the willingness to do anything for a price, from solving a murder mystery to infiltrating an entirely different society to steal a single battery. I would find it interesting to include the ability to pay an upfront price to receive a random quality component of your specifications from Constantine.

It'd act similar to Super Steel or Refurbishment, and you could only order a single component at a time. After you pay a 500 to 750 charon upfront price, a 30 to 45 minute timer begins, and once that's over you can get your item by speaking to Constantine. Quality range is equivalent to Constantine's range, but hitting Constantine's mercantile checks of 55 and 95 gives you a guaranteed quality floor, like Refining Data.

The intention of this is to give a way to acquire items you might have been unlucky enough to not get in good qualities, while also not outperforming specialized merchants that will give you a potentially much higher ceiling. The high price point, or at least a high price for a single component, is to balance the versatility of ordering any component you need and to keep it as a more niche option.

tbh the newer TC abilities, Psychosomatic Predation and Motor Cognitive Transference, need varying levels of changes.

All Motor Cognitive needs is to buff its interaction with LoC, so that if you mass reduce an enemy group you should get the combined amount of all stats reduced rather than how it works currently. This would give it a much better niche and the mass stat steal would at least require you to use up your LoC.

Predation needs a more thorough buff. It fails at the assassin/boss killing aspect because of the insane negatives it comes with and how the game plays on a regular basis where bosses regularly come with 10+ strong groups attached at their hips. The three buffs I'd give it would be 1. Reduce the damage debuff to enemies other than your target down to 15% - 20%, 2. Have the damage debuff go away on death of the target, 3. On target kill, enemies around the killed target get inflicted with an intimidation debuff that scales with effective TC. This gives Predation its cool moments, keeps its niche as a boss killer/assassin/focusing tool, and makes it actually good to use rather than just debuffing yourself with -25% damage for 3 turns after your target dies in the first.

I agree with all your other suggestions.

Considering how player character cannot be spooked (never seen my character affected with fear) it would be strange for him to be scared of heights.

The player character can be feared in some ways, but it doesn't do anything. However, it was shown that at least in story/description the character does experience the regular Southern Underrail agoraphobia as shown in the entrance to Hell's Gut in Expedition and talks with Doctor Savage. So your character can certainly have a fear of heights stemming from that agoraphobia.

you just want less reason to skill persuasion

While I think Persuasion has its merits in other places in the game, I don't like that with this specific situation it is impossible to get SGS support without Persuasion. I think Barry's idea is probably the best but rather than removing the check you make it like how Abram's first Junkyard quest is handled. The correct arguments are always available to pick, however, having a higher persuasion skill will point out the correct arguments for you.

Currently, in order for SGS to support the Black Eels the only way to do it would be to pass a 30 persuasion skill check. Unless you're already heavily investing into persuasion, there isn't a reason to dip 30 in persuasion just for a slight change in end slides.

This is fine for pre-drill as the PC is a relatively new face and has now gotten embroiled in a gang war, but it doesn't make sense for post-drill/post-Faceless invasion. By that point the PC should be a more known local figure and the potential gains from cooperating with a strong southern naval power should allow you to convince the SGS leadership to support the Black Eels without a need for persuasion.

Hell it doesn't necessarily have to be right after Faceless invasion, there just should be a point where the benefits and sway of supporting the Black Eels outweigh the negatives such that there isn't a need for a persuasion check. This could be after completing the Missing Merchants quest for Vera and SGS determining that Railways might be dangerous enough to consider allying with a powerful naval option.

Agreed, the 100% mech resist wasn't even easy to hit and required a dedicated build to be even able to do. It kinda just sucks to see cool tank builds get kneecapped for no reason.

Bugs / Bug: Bad wall collision on the H6 island
« on: June 05, 2021, 09:07:44 pm »
Found some bad collision in the H6 grid space in the Black Sea, on the southern side of the Island, west of the southern most Hive. Could just go in and out on the jet ski.
