Builds / Mobile Steel Commando w/ Disassembly + guide
« on: September 10, 2022, 08:36:45 am »
Hey Everyone,
I've recently returned to Underrail and wanted to give you guys a build that can clear content easily on DOMINATING. I noticed a similar build here already, but I will give you my own spin on it.

Nimble Steel Commando Dis (no PSI):
https://underrail.info/build/?HggGAwoJAwfCoGcAAAAAZEc7UAB4dDM7ZAAAAAB-AD4owoNNRRUCSiRJVSdjUBbCtcKkU8OO4qeqA-KntAXiqJIF378

Nimble Steel Commando Dis (with 55 in Psychokinesis for Imprint and Proxy (explained below)):
https://underrail.info/build/?HggGAwoJAwfCoGcAAAAAZEc7UAB4dDM7ZAA3AAB-AD4owoNNRRUCSiRJK1UnY1AWwrXCpFPDjsKc4qeqA-KntAXiqJIF378

Starting stats: 8STR , 6DEX, 3AGI, 5CON, 8PER, 3WILL, 7INT  - up to lvl 20 put all points into CON to reach 10 and get Thick Skull.

We are getting Paranoia and Trigger Happy on 1st level, to get 26 Initiative right out the gate. Why? Because as a Steel Armor user, we start combat out of Stealth and the way this game works, enemies spot you going around the corner before you even see them. And unless you want to metagame (F9) the whole game, we want to start first and finish last™.

I am also now a Disassemble convert. All my builds, bar some must have it. Why? On DOMINATING, this will give you amazing money, best components and by lvl 20 you won't need repair kits anymore! And up till then, you will be swimming in Repair Kits, as you can disassemble Sledge Hammers, put them back together and get A TON of parts by recycling a full durability one (applies to everything else you can put back together, that you would recycle).
Assault Rifles of higher calibers feel like paper with their durability, so yeah, NO MORE REPAIR KITS NEEDED! Also, you can get some components, like highest level Galvanic Vests from Disassembling sold Riot Armors and such. Simply invest 5 specialization points into it ASAP.

Also with 6DEX, you can get Pickpocketing going immediately for all the ammo and meds and money too.

Crafting - make Steel Armor from highest quality Steel Plate asap from lvl4. Tungsten Steel Boots with Boot Spring too and High Density Foam (check by saving before buying if it gives much benefit, compared to Soft Foam at that early level). Look for Regen Vest, use it in your armor ASAP and the whole game you will be upgrading that only with higher quality ones.
Our focus is as much DT as possible as at that early level, Physical resistance will be sub 50% anyway. Also, aim to have 70% AP or so, with >30 Quality Boot Springs, that should give you 20 MP - and that is our target. Reinforce with 1 Plate if needed.
Why 20MP? To move out of cover, shoot, and move back in. That way Ranged targets will come to you and won't be a problem. Remember, we will have Jumping Beans later on, which grant 10MP, so plan accordingly.

After Depot A - Highest quality Steel again, but reinforce with Tichrome instead if needed. Experiment with what gives you most DT for 20MP (can include Jumping Beans, so reinforce more if you want). Tungsten Steel Boots with Springs still.

SUPER STEEL

Don't try crafting without Refining Data (https://stygiansoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=Super_Steel_Refining_Data)  as you will waste money on sub 170 quality plates. To get 4 pieces ASAP, you need to do:

Hecate Research Outpost - From The Foundry - 1 zone East, 3 zones North. You will see double doors, thats the outpost (https://stygiansoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=Hecate_Research_Outpost).
2nd floor is the Coil Spider nest, don't leave the starting room - use stealth gear, make noise and fight there. Make sure to unequip or discharge gear (Crit Goggles) that you a wearing that has energy, as you will get EMP'ed then. It is just a precaution, if we hold the room well, no spiders should get to shoot at us. Shut down and restart the generator to access the computer with the data.

Lost Vault - From the Hecate Research Outpost - go down the hole next to the doors, then 3 zones South. BEWARE, last zone will have Azurdae next to the entrance, use Stealth before entering. Then 1 zone East. Thats the Vault https://stygiansoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=Lost_Vault.
Use Hacking to get inside. Very easy, as we should have at least 60 Hacking from Depot A + Haxxor MK3 and Voila! Inside, reach most northern room and loot it from a box.

Hephaestus Research - Get the quest from Protectorate to rescue the expedition (2nd quest in chain)> From Lost Vault - 2 zones West, 2 zones South. Super easy area for Tin Can AR build. Wipe the floor with Burrowers, get Dreadnaught armor, WIPE it even harder! 😆 Loot the data from one of the boxes.

Last one! I prefer to do the Institute.
Gain access to the institute by clearing the Mall from Lunatics. Very easy for this build again, just upon entering the place, use that room to fight. I recommend stealth gear again.
Clear the computer room, kill anything that comes to the noise. When out of combat, detonate a TNT in the back-room you came from and again, kill anything that comes. Mop up the place afterwards - there are a few Lunatics in Stealth that won't come to noise, so just hunt them down.

Once inside the institute, head to Library (upper floor, North exit I believe). Pickpocket the  Library Propagator Card (Institute of Tchort) from an Acolyte and use it to acess the data on a computer.
Download the data, and Thats IT!

Crafting Super Steel - I recommend using Cheat Engine to speed game up. I use 100x time speed set on toggle (don't need to hold) and on 5x speed in game it takes just 30secs IRL. Do it outside the area, where there are no moving NPC's, so just enter the Mine from same zone (where Beast came from). With 4 pieces of Data you will have a very high chance to roll >170 quality plates, so repeat that untill you are happy.
It is recommended to have a house at this point, for the crafting bonus as you will make you end game armor right now. Can be done by level 20 on Classic XP - 110 invested, 138 actual + bonus = 158 Mechanics. And we can add and remove plates, as we should have 5/5 in Disassembly with no loss in quality.

PSI or no-PSI?
Arguments against:
  • Chad Status
  • More HP
Arguments for:
  • Imprint - is useful for choke points and to get Crawlers, as they will constantly Sting you and run and they will never fight you, because of Thick Skull. Also, to negate super high evasion of some bosses, namely arena ones.
  • Proxy - only used to create a well lit area with 100% accuracy and relatively small radius, so it becomes super easy to Ambush and negate half enemy Evasion and raise you crit.

FAQ:

Why only 11 Perception max?
Because you WANT to miss with AR at longer ranges, to hit other targets. And up close, you will land almost all hits even with 8PER anyway + Concentrader Fire will SHRED anything and everything.

Why the Stealth investment?
We have a ton of Skill points and we need 40 for Ambush anyways. Add to the fact, that you need at or over 117 for Greater Coil Spiders. Plus, we will carry high level Ninja Tabis and low Armor Penalty Stealth Armor with us, because there is no running away from the fact that Stealth is preferable in some places.

How does it compare to No-Mobility Tungsten?
It is much easier and more pleasant to play this. Tungsten of >150 quality is also extremely hard to find, even after doing The Beast quest. So to reach 95% resistance, you will need to wear a helmet, which reduces PER and Crit Chance considerably. I played it on DOMINATING too, and even with Jumping Bean and Drifter Feat you only get a margin of SS build's mobility and get wrecked by massed enemies using HE Grenades, Shock Bolts and god forbid, Though Control Psionics...
So simply put, mobility that SS allows CONSTANTLY and off-cooldown + Helmet slot for +19% crit and Night Vision is amazing. Remember, you dont really need 95% Physical Defense, as say 90% and 550 Health biggest Sniper shots will only do 80 damage WITHOUT shield. You will regen that in 1 turn almost.

Why no Critical Power?
You can swap it in instead of Grenadier or Gun Nut, but I personally prefer Muzzled Rapid 7.62 Hornet vs fitting AA scope in there somehwere. It certainly can be done though, but will mostly benefit the secondary AA Chimera. Just remember that the +15% top damage from Gun Nut applies ALWAYS and Grenadier for FIELDS of FIRE™ and EMP w/ Plasma MK3 on short CD are very useful.

In the picture, the SS Armor is made of 177, 173, 170, 167 plates.

It would be really nice and useful to have different catagories for crafting blueprints so that we could find what we need faster.
Also, please add another recipe for Advanced Repair Kits. You could make Basic Repair Kits blueprint price cheaper in turn - so that player could aquire them at a similar cost during gameplay. Advanced Repair Kit would require 80 scraps as it does now but won't need splitting manually.

If major interface re-programming is a problem, just place them like this as a suggestion with catagory name above the section:

Drugs:
- Adrenaline
- Focus Stim

Medicines:
- Advanced Health Hypo
- Health Hypo

Repair Kits:
- Advanced Repair Kit
- Basic Repair Kit
...
...
Armor:
- Boots
- Leather Armor
- Metal Armor
- Metal Helmet
etc.

You can sort by [Consumables] first, [Utility] second, [Weapon] third, [Armor] last due to crafting frequency of each (more often used are closer to top).

General / How to: Ethereal Torch w/o Ingwar or Ferryman
« on: September 16, 2021, 02:01:39 pm »
Hey guys,
Decided to make a small vid guide to help anyone out when they can't get Ingwar to open up and spill his deepest thoughts... or when Ferryman just won't talk simple and basic with you 😆

The guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77U8OJ7VFoM

Quick version:
  • Find the Totem with the symbol on it.
  • Go rob some graves.
  • DON'T ROB THE GRAVES!!
  • Find the Crank.
  • Put the crank into the hole and spin it.
  • Touch the dacaying body in all the inappropriate places, until his mom's ghost comes over to see what you're up to...
  • Leg It!
  • Repeat last two, until done. Or found the thing.

Builds / Shotguns - Fragmented Chaos & Critical Power
« on: August 30, 2021, 01:22:52 pm »
Alright,
To anyone still having questions if they work together, as last post from Devs about this was 2 years ago (https://stygiansoftware.com/forums/index.php?topic=4334.0):

Fragmented Chaos (https://www.stygiansoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=Fragmented_Chaos) DOES NOT work with Critical Power (https://www.stygiansoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=Critical_Power).

I made a video on it, inc. testing, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgZ_mM40uIo

Critical Power still works with Vindicator's 120% Crit Damage bonus, but with around 50% crit chance that is only a 4%(!!) Damage Increase.

In Conclusion - Critical Power is useless on Shotgun Builds.
By the way, also found out, that each pellet rolls damage separately (from the total, divided by pellet count), not just Crit Chance, so it is more likely to average out each shot, instead of noticing it when you roll minimum damage on Vindicator 😆😆 Although, this still happened too often... like those 3, 95% misses in a row, on a single shot fire-arms...

p.s.: Thanks to my viewer Lestat13 for pointing this out and making me look more into this.
Edit: Reuploading the vid, due to errors 😅😅

Let's Plays / Chem Pistol Arena at lvl14
« on: August 27, 2021, 03:42:33 pm »
This is a non-SI, Versatility Chemical Pistol build 😁 Idea is to max DEX, max Throwing, get Three-Pointer and blow stuff up. Also Mad Chemist and a non-crit focused Chem Pistol use for crowd control, etc. No Advanced Catalyzing Belt yet, gear from Junkyard. Went with JKK as others offer nothing to this build and you get free armor for Arena with +5 Initiative 😁
Build: https://underrail.info/build/?HgUQBgMGAwcjwqAAwqAeAHhAJi0tS2RdLlAALQBGAABKOcKjJjDCkVYWKz4vTgLCh2EqwrM6duKlvAXita4K378

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGiKzxJbs6c

It is quite low damage, but high control. Looking back on it, I could have optimized on Stygian Exorcist, by using Acid Pistol after his PSP has expired, but I managed fine. Enjoy! 😁

This is a build that can go anywhere and fight anything. Mainly Shotgun focused, but with Assault Rifle to reach out when needed.
Build post here: https://stygiansoftware.com/forums/index.php?topic=7753.0

Shotgun mainly used vs. Evasive targets or heavily armored. But this is not a "only use that and nothing else" build/run. We have Quick Tinker and Telecinetic Imprint with a side of TM. So it is made to survive and to go through everything comfortably. AR is used mainly for long range Ambushes and often outshines the shotgun in damage even without Focused Fire 😅😅 - but why not use both? 😁

Builds / One Punch Man
« on: August 01, 2021, 08:52:52 pm »
Hello,
I had this SI build brewing in my head, about using Heavy Punch on Combo Strikes and Pneumatic Strikes (updated to v3):

https://underrail.info/build/?HgUOBwkDAwUyPADCoCgAwoJBKzIAZngzO2YALQB2AABVGDliIBIGKxMHS07Co8KHMTzCszfinY0K4p-EAeKnvgTfvw

Idea is to get a super high mobility from Fancy Footwork, 4AP Combat Glove hits and every 3rd and 4th to be a Heavy Punch for that x1.8 multiplier.
Total Crit Chance 78% = 5% Base + 12% from 17DEX + 30% from SI + 7% Reckless + 15% Focus Stim + 9% Infused Rathound Leather Armor
Crit Damage Bonus 340% = 100% Cheapshots(10) * 2.4 Critical Power(4) + 100% base

*You need to be on Eel Sandwitch, for 17DEX*
Lvl1: https://underrail.info/build/?AQUKBgkDAwQACgAPDwAPDwoAAAoADwAAAAAAAAAADxg5378
- Lvl 4 +1INT
- Lvl 8 +1AGI
- Everything after to DEX

Hit sequence is something like: ×ש℗ש×℗©××MEGA-HIT(combined ©Combo+℗Pneumatic) 😆🤣🤣 (not accounting for misses as they reset Combo)
AP: 4,4,8,8,4,8,4,8,8,4,4,8(!) = 72AP for MEGA-HIT™ rotation 😆 (not accounting for misses)
If I remember correctly, Combo has a counter in buff section. But if you lost count of say Pneumatics, just Heavy Punch, Heavy Punch, Heavy Punch... 😆 a thinking mans' build 😁

This build also has Versitility to have some SMG W2C options vs some enemies as a secondary and Electrokinetic Imprint for defense.
Pick up Spec Ops earlier if you want.
+ 1 open Feat for whatever you want.

Gear:
- Reinforced Pneumatic Leather Gloves of highest quality leather you can get. (will need to test Bladed for Taste for Blood).
- Rapid Muzzled (whatever caliber best to burst more at the time) Steelcat as a backup once we have Versatility.
- Medicine Belt. Keep Ammo belt around (Beast fight, robot and crab infested areas.. 😅).
- Ninja Tabis for Sneaks. Infused Cave Hopper Tabis for most of the fighting and Infused Siphoner Tabis for certain spidey areas 😁 (they can be switched for free if you start combat)
- Infused Rathound Leather Armor (Black and Soft) for crits. Avarage of 9% bonus. Before that, a Black Sturdy Laminated Tac Vest is best or Siphoner/Mutated Dog Leather Armor (for Acidy fights)
- Motion Tracking Goggles Goggles most of the time. Can swap out to NVG Seeker goggles maybe if/when needed. And Black Balaclava for sneaks ofc. (can be swapped out for free if you start combat).

Note: Once you noticed that you overkill a lot with Pneumatic Heavy Punches, you can try using lower quality Pneumatic Hammers to conserve battery usage. Remember - recharging a battery is not punching 😆

No videos yet. This will be my next playthrough 😄

Builds / Shotgun/AR Survival Build
« on: July 27, 2021, 01:08:21 pm »
Hello, my fellow subterranean denizens 😁
I would like to forward your way a stone-solid Shotgun build, with an Assault Rifle side-arm:
  • It uses Stealth
  • It uses Quick-Tinker and Electrokinetic Imprint for combat control
  • Leading Shot(3) for -80% of Enemy Evasion
  • Ambush! - for -50% of Enemy Evasion and AR ranged crit bonanza!
  • Also has 7-10 Constitution (344-440HP on DOMINATING)
  • Full-Auto - mainly for AR, but also if you want some auto-shotty action!

7CON Shotgun/AR Survivalist build here:

https://underrail.info/build/?HgcHBgcMAwTCoFIAAB4AWl03QDJ4eDg1ZAAtAEYAAFw5JsKwMMKWAitOwphLFsKHSRUkwrXCpDHCnuKjsQXip74C4rOsA-K3sAXfvw

This is the most well-rounded build in my opinion. You have the capacity to take the damage if it gets to that, but also got enough damage/accuracy to wipe everything comfortably as they come.
Shotgun can 1-tap Mutants in Depot-A on DOM, 2-tap Hunchbacks in Core-City at lvl14-15.

I am also doing a showcase/playthrough/Tips n Tricks video series of this build on Youtube with Commentary. An example of Silent Isle at level 9 on DOMINATING in 1 try:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=remzti81cVQ

 Leveling recommendations:
Level 1: https://underrail.info/build/?AQcHBgUIAwQPCAAAAAAPDwwPAAoADwAAAAAAAAAADzkm378
Level 4: https://underrail.info/build/?BAcHBgUJAwQeCAAAAAAPGRgeGQocFAAKAAAAAAAADzkmwrAw378
Level 14: https://underrail.info/build/?DgcHBgcJAwRQGQAAHgAwOSMqKEEeMC0yAAAAAAAALTkmwrAwwpYCTsKYS9-_

Anyways, idea is - invest into Mechanics depending on the Quality of the frames you find, but have 45 Mercantile for Blaine (and go with Eels, for this great trader) at level 9 or 10(Dom). Other than that, you need 40 Stealth for Ambush at lvl 8.

10CON, 11PER Shotgun/AR Survivalist build:

https://underrail.info/build/?HgcHBgoJAwTCoEsAAB4AZE43QDt4eDg1ZAAtAEYAAF85JsKwMMKWAitOwphLFsKHSRVjwrUfJMKe4qOxBeKnvgLis6wD4rewBd-_
You can focus on CON, to get 10, and replace Nimble or Reckless with Thick Skull then shore up PER with Increased Perception.

FAQ:

 What armor should I use?
- Black - Regenerative - Nanocomposite Tactical Vest with either Laminated Ballistic Panel or Super Steel Sheet (15% vs 20% Armor Penalty after Nimble) - Nanocomposite Plate of Quality 115 reduces taken Crit damage by 40%, meaning Sniper crits, that get through High-High Energy Shield will be further reduced by this ammount. You won't get 1 shot off-screen no more, and regen the taken damage in 2-3 turns 😆
- Infused Siphoner or Greater Siphoner Tabis for certain.. spidey areas. They are great in general though - immune to Kneecap Shot and other annoying things. They can be switched into when you start combat manually.
- Black Cloth Tabis and Balaclava, for sneaky sneaks - can be switched for free in stealth too.
- Certain 'Rat Suit' is always OK to use... also makes you immune to Intimidation skill reduction.
- Or Infused Rathound Leather Armor for the memes and crits 😆
- And of course NVG Seeker Goggles for that sweet +18% Ranged Crit Chance.

Long Barrel Shotgun or Short Barrel?..
- I aaa... still can't definitively decide myself. Shotgun range is horrid, you are always no more than 3 tiles away for optimal damage, 1-2 tiles away for Leading Shot.. short barrel really helps, esp. early on with that extra 15% damage, but I would often miss all 3 pellets of Train Shot with it at 68-70% hit-chance... I am exprimenting with it in my videos, so watch them, and decide for yourself. So far, my verdict would be - Long Barrel.

Isn't Assault Rifle better in all things that Shotgun can do?
- Almost a YES... I wanted to build a Shotgun build, simply because I love them in games and I own them and shoot them irl. The only thing a Shotgun has over AR in this game, is Lead Shot with it's easier conditions to trigger as compared to Ambush, which cannot be done in some areas. Sixth Shell for example, doesn't compare that favourably vs Concentrated Fire. This is also a reason, why I haven't taken Concentrated Fire - because I want to use AR as a secondary for long-range Ambush! crits, not sustained dps. This is a Shotgun build.. 😆😅

Suggestions / Reconsider PSI slot count
« on: July 12, 2021, 10:15:29 am »
Wanted to really ask how does having such a limited number of PSI slots improve or positively alter the PSI gameplay? 8 Slots max. Thought Control has 10 skills now. Metathermics - 10.
Someone has to realize that you gut both flexibility of a PSI build and enjoyment as you can't even utilize all the tools we get - we will use the most optimalOPTIMAL skills, not such flavour as Psi-cognitive Interruption, Neurovisual Disruption, Exothermic Aura, Cryo-Shield. And even those not mentioned, I have to rotate Bilocation out for example as I get Pseudo-spatial Projection and Stasis.

You effectively removed fun from the game. I know you wanted Intelligence investment to be needed, but what about INT granting 2 slots instead on even number after 6 and increasing the max slots accordingly?

I noticed my build and many other PSI builds devolving to 1 button spam - and it is not Burst fire fun spam with a bunch of enemies getting shredded and critted, etc., no, it is single target Neural Overload, after NO, after NO... I would like to be able to use the tools we PSI has, the choice PSI has. We PSI doesn't have a choice to skimp on WILL as build's damage depends on it. PSI is lowest dps of all builds after all.

Someone will say and correctly, that PSI can still finish the game on DOMINATING no problems - yes. But you must also agree to the fact, that we have a shit-ton of skills we don't use, but would like to. Having more choice during combat is fun and those skills are fun. Much more than a single button spam on single targets...

Builds / Thought Control - Temporal Manipulation Trapper
« on: July 06, 2021, 02:14:41 pm »
Hey, hey people*,
This is a build to take out on a game when you get frustrated with all the Dodging, all the Evasion and all those 95% Miss-Miss-Miss times.. It gives you an unreal ammount of control over your enemies, so that you can melt their brains and their faces. I can't describe the elation of Carnifex begging for his life from a lvl 14 right out of Junkyard.. This build lets you Bear Trap in combat (which works on most robots), use Gas, EMP and other nades freely and frequently with Grenadier, has good trap detection and is unkillable by snipers with Pseudo-Spatial Projection and comes with the always-hit of PSI.
It may not be a DPS machine like other builds, but it always packs a punch and is never out of tools.

Build: https://underrail.info/build/?HgMHBgMDEAgAWQAAAADCi0lGQDxLZDA3SMKgAADCoC8ARDkoKz8wKgVkIyEWwockJ8K9wrRywrvCneKitQLio7AC4qaGCt-_

Youtube series (more to come):

Full Arena at lvl 14 on Dominating:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6HjEB8Exoo

P.S.: Mental Subversion is taken primarily for Dominating and doing Arena early, as some enemies there have high Resolve and this allows you not only to up the damage by reducing it but also to prevent them from resisting your control skills. You may change it if you want or leave it as is.

* A nod to the Saint of obscure games - Sseth 😁.
