I'm sure the creators of the games would be interested about this as well, but I too am generally curious about it.
I found this game through one of my favourite Let's Players, PlumpHelmetPunk (http://www.youtube.com/PlumpHelmetPunk) and he did a video on the alpha demo. I can't say he really did amazing at the demo for his second try, but it was enough to get me hooked on it, the video can be found here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFv6w3nVX4o&feature=plcpl)
Now, how did you find out about Underrail?
-
Good question. I would be very much interested to know this. :)
-
I honestly can't remember. It might have been on Rock Paper Shotgun... but I am not sure.
Then I started spreading the word on all forums I contribute to.
-
Found out about the game through the codex's recent posting about the alpha.
I love the work you've been doing here; this looks like a good month killer.
-
I'm pretty sure I found out from no mutants allowed. I'd provide links to the most recent news post regarding the demo release of UR, but it looks like the site is currently having trouble.
www.nma-fallout.com/
From what I read earlier there was some positive reception.
However, I did learn about UR quite awhile ago, so its hard to tell if NMA was my original source or if it was rock paper shotgun. I can't find anything regarding UR on RPS tho.
EDIT: NMA seems to be back up - Link to UR impressions thus far below

It was PlumpHelmetPunk for me too. I also saw this thread (http://www.dsogaming.com/news/fallout-and-system-shock-2-inspired-isometric-indie-rpg-underrail-gets-an-alpha-demo/) on reddit.
-
I found first info about Underrail on RPGWatch - my favourite site ;)
-
RPG Watch.
-
I'm not sure, but probably www.nma-fallout.com, rampantgames.com/blog (http://rampantgames.com/blog), indierpgs.com (http://indierpgs.com) or www.rpgcodex.net, when it was still Timelapse Vertigo.

I found out it at http://www.indiegamemag.com/metro-mishaps-underrail-alpha-gameplay-is-on-the-right-track/#.UDn4TNbiaPY [/i]

Well, I found out from LethalFeline.
-
I first saw it on Rock Paper Shotgun, before even the demo came out - it was a article on name change I think. Then few days ago Lethal Feline did his stream and I saw it on YT. After that it was a matter of time before I downloaded demo and began to play ;)

Someone posted about this game on the Bay12 forums (www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=115351 (http://linky)), home of the other great alpha-stage (perpetually alpha stage. I first hear about it in high school, and have since graduated from college) game of our age- Dwarf Fortress. This might not seem important, but I figure more people will check out your game on advice from people they know ("know" on the internet, but still) then by reading some article on a review site. (So it's important to talk to people on other forums.)

via a german games magazine (http://www.pcgames.de/Indie-Games-Thema-239276/News/Underrail-Old-School-Rollenspiel-erinnert-an-Fallout-und-Metro-2033-1020615/)
When I looked the first time into this forum I was surprise by the low amount of users/threads. I hope more people get to know about this game. In it's core I had much more fun playing this demo than any "AAA" game of recent years...
-
I think it was on the Wasteland 2 forum. Someone had posted a link to the alpha gameplay video on Youtube.

Huh, so I managed to bring someone here! :)

Found it on Greenlight :)

my brother send me link
(he found that game on steam)

Same for me as well. Plump Helmet Punk's video is how I found out, and I fell in love with the demo. I'm looking forward to when the Alpha release happens so I can give money to support it, because it's really something awesome.
-
Desura for me. ;)
-
I was checking the Indiedb contest thingy, and underrail caught my eye, especially when some of the menus were Fallout-esque.
-
I found it on an RPG search of Desura. When I found it there I did recall seeing it on Steam Greenlight.
-
I often look at the Desura Alpha funding page to see if there is anything that grabs my interest.
I saw this a mulled over the idea of buying it for a day or 2 then succumb to the curiosity.
-
Someone mention about it on large game portal. Here I am.
Played alfa demo and keep tracking game since then.
-
Same as Spinewire
-
i was on the The Red Solstice's website and found the "Pressin' It Forward" badge up top and from there i came here
-
I found it on Greenlight, and noticed a friend had favourited it. I talked to him about it, and after he described it to me, I simply couldn't pass up the opportunity. It's a seriously fun game, and I'd love to make music for it, or even make quests or levels for it.
-
The Death Cat did another Let's Play of the game like a week ago... so it's a bit more exposition to consider - since there is a fair amount of people who watch him. So... yeah - it's another nice thing to show :D.

Yeah, I saw that. It's very interesting and insightful to watch how people play the game and what they struggle with, it's about as valuable as feedback as you can get. It's also hard sometimes because I just want to yell "dammit, man, read the tooltip!" :)
-
I won't be very original here : I saw an article on Rock Paper Shotgun ^^
On french forums, I try to present the game, made threads about with links here and images, some people already know it.
-
And here comes another article on Rock, Paper, Shotgun: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/03/12/metro-20-2-5d-underrail-alpha-available/#more-145355
I'm actually reading through it at the moment... so I'll post what it's about soon!
edit:
Well it's just a mention on the page, but hopefully there will be a bit of traffic. At least people are being reminded of Underrail being a part of a bundle at some time in the past ;)

glad to have heard about it, i loved the fallout games and the gameplay video got me pretty interested
happy to spend ten bucks on such a cool project

http://www.kotaku.com.au/2013/03/if-you-miss-the-old-school-fallout-games-this-might-be-for-you/
Found it via this Kotaku article.
I've joined the Kickstarters for Wasteland 2, Shadowrun Returns, Project Eternity, and Torment: Tides of Numenera. While looking for articles relating to these games I came across the above article for Under Rail.
Being a fan of the original fallout games, fallout tactics, jagged alliance, and x-com...this purchase was a no-brainer.
-
RPS article, and am I so glad I clicked on it I just spent the entire Sunday playing. :)
-
Found it on greenlight. I noticed it because it was a favorite of Vince, one of the devs of Age of Decadence.
He only had two games on his list. His own game and Underrail. I knew i had to check it.
I saw the video and that was all i needed.

Read about it on Facepunch Forums, my usual haunting grounds.
-
I found out about it browsing Steam Greenlight, then I started recommending it to people on various forums.
-
Steam Greenlight, and I'm glad I did. This game captures a great deal of what I loved from Neverwinter Nights and, with the addition of the 'export character', I seriously hope this grows into more than just a stand-alone game. I see a lot of modding fun in this game's future.

Steam greenlight, the day it was posted (aug 30 2012). Downloaded the demo a few days after, tried it, favorited it on greenlight sep 9. Got the desura key in a bundle at some point.
-
Sadly took up until steam greenlight to notice, I cant belive I missed it on df forums.
-
Really and truly, I ran across it on steam. I am always on the lookout for the old school games (been playing Volgaar the Barbarian a fair bit as well) and had a huge love for fallout and fallout tactics. The game looked like it was worth a shot and so gave you my money. Now just playing around with building characters and such, psi looks interesting, and I find it interesting you named the melee psi character Bisson (assume after M. Bison from streetfighter series).
-
In my case, a friend of mine was checking out new stuff coming to steam, saw the title and went to check it and thought this game would be totally up my alley... Which it is! for the last couple of days this game has swallowed up my live!
-
I was looking to play an indie, it was in the top 100 for a few days at http://www.indiedb.com

Big russian game portal published a series of articles about the games that have early access, and are worth to see.
So, at least one found out about the game (not me of course)

I created a website C.O.R.E., which is mentioned Styg (thanks, unexpected and very nice!). We write about many worthy role-playing games, which other resources are not paying attention.
As I learned about the project? Honestly, I do not remember. I have more than 200 RSS-subscriptions and I do not know which of them I read about the game, but it seems to me that someone wrote about it on our forum. The game was called Timelapse Vertigo. Honestly, I did not feel much enthusiasm until tried the game in Steam Early Access, and I loved it!

DESURA :)

I googled for fallout 2 simular games and thats how i found it.
Over 200 hours played now and still going.

I was looking for a game similar to Arcanum...
friend suggested this, went over his house for a little getty. He let me play it at 12PM when he knocked out...
7AM came and he asked if I slept at all...
Bought the game for myself immediately after =)
-
I found this awesome game when I saw polish youtuber's alfa gameplay. He loves all fallouts and said that Underrail is similar to them. I always wanted to find similar game to fallouts. One day he uploaded this gameplay and I fell in love with Underrail :] Those graphics are the best I've ever seen! Thank you for the game! :)
-
Steam Green light saw the game and had fallout 2 flashbacks then green lit it :D
-
Steam. Loved the look of it and that it was similar to fallout.
-
I was looking around youtube for stuff about isometric games, and in that process found some cool "Let's Play" videos for Underrail.
-
I was looking for a good turn based game in the steam shop after buying wasteland 2 and jagged alliance flashback on steam and Underrail was shown as a game I might like and the pictures looked really promising.
-
RPGCodex a couple years ago, I was looking for a turn based rpg that I haven't played yet. Since then I've seen the game mentioned a few times on various forums.
-
I bought wasteland 2, after being kind of being disappointed used suggested game list to Underrail.
-
RPGCodex.
Ignored it first because Im usually not into indie games. But when I read "classless" and "inspired by Fallout, Arcanum and System Shock"...well, I was hooked :D
-
It was part of a GamersGate bundle along with other games I was more interested in, possibly years ago, though the bundle itself was very cheap and thus the alpha version of Underrail was almost free for me. And get this, I was just looking for games in my gaming libraries to play today (!) when I stumbled upon Underrail and realized that it's about to come out tomorrow! And more than that, reading about it revealed that it does look kind of awesome. So, I'm very intrigued now and glad I noticed it "gathering dust".
-
From a friend~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
Heard about it years ago when the first alpha demo was released. I think I actually found it per accident when browsing TIGsource or another indie game blog.
-
Heard about it when alpha demo was posted, including Styg note about game on one Serbian forum.
Then I've followed its dev log, until I forgot all about it for couple of years.
Then I bough it a few weeks before release and still keep it playing.
-
Found it on steam after looking for games similar to fallout 1/2
-
I stumbled upon it as the game came out, got one of those Steam release notifications that sometimes pop up en masse. Went and got it on GoG soon after. :D
-
Never heard of it until it hit GOG (basically the only place I buy games for the past few years).
Even though I haven't completed a playthru yet (but am on my 2nd up thru about L20 - a playthru I'll continue hopefully to conclusion); I consider Underrail to be a classic - right up there with my favorites:
Fallouts (all of them, including Tactics; except 4 which I haven't played and probably won't for awhile - due to DRM)
Arcanum
Dead State
Invisible Inc
S.T.A.L.K.E.R's
Thief series
Gothic 3 & Risen 1 (will get around to playing the rest of these series)
Fallen Earth (MMO)
Anarchy Onliine (MMO)
Neocron (MMO)
Star Wars Galaxies (MMO - defunct)
All the above I have found to be very immersive and amenable to good roleplaying. Underrail fits right in with them in that way. Excellent game!
-
Hmm. Must have been after reading some forum. Don't remember which one :P
-
It's been on my radar for a while; I think I saw an article on PCGamer about it, and added it to my wishlist. I dig the setting, always been a fan of post-apocalyptic stuff. I'm relatively new to the strategy RPG formula, though; never played a lot of the inspirations. I'm not one to shy away from a classic formula, though, and took to it well.
-
A friend was raving about Undertale. We were on skype talking and browsing Steam for games and while about to search it up in the search box, UnderRail also popped up.
We joked about it: "Heh, so you're not talking about the isometric cRPG known as UnderRAIL?" "Hey, actually that sounds pretty cool..."
A few screenshots later, and I was sold.
-
I've been looking for new RPGs to play and had recently snagged Wasteland 2 when I came across this too. It was clearly reminiscent of FO1/2 and I didn't need much more convincing after a few screenies.
-
I can't remember anymore. I *think* I saw it on Steam back when they were trying to greenlight it. I watched the promo video for it and was intrigued. I promptly backed the game at Gamer'sGate.

One of the imageboards. I think it was krautchan.
-
Friend recommended it after playing an hour or so of it themselves when it was on sale earlier in the year. It didn't take long for me to blaze way past them in progress, haha.
-
When Techsyndicate youtube channel was still a thing they had a small section about lesser known indie games that they recommend. I remember being broke and unsure about this game so I did pirate it. Shameful I know.
But soon I realised that this game is awesome. It has ....soul I think. So I proceeded to buy it and finish it 4 times with different builds. Will definetly get the expansion as well.
-
I was reading some thread about iso rpg's on 4chan's /vr/ board, IIRC. It was 4chan at any rate. This was about 2 years ago, give or take. I couldn't believe I had never heard of the game.
-
Found it on Path of Exile forum. Someone suggested that evasion mechanic from Underrail that also decreases AoE damage taken would be good in PoE. The idea was silly but I saw few screentshots, read the description and was immidiately hooked.
-
Found out about UnderRail from a YouTube comment on a Ross' Game Dungeon video.
-
I saw it on steam :D
-
Sseth has led me here
and im not disappointed

My friend told me about this game, he's a junkie for old school games.
I personally don't really into it because i have tried several other similar games (Avernum, Eschalon, and so on, even Fallout 1) but didn't feel the chemistry. Before playing UnderRail, the only similar game i like was [Diablo 1-2] and [Blade & Sword], nothing else.
but THIS one got me! this game is so enthralling, i could easily dump my spare time to this. Easy to pick up, hard to put down.
I just hope this game will keep being updated with new things, i know stories have to end at some point, but maybe you can add some new things other than the storyline.
This game is just so awesome. Keep it up!
-
I looked up games like fallout 1 & 2 on Youtube and Underrail was in one of the videos. When I first bought it it didn't really click with me, but a couple years later I tried it again talking to every NPC and absolutely fell in love with the lore and story.
-
Saw it on Steam, thought it looked interesting. It did not disappoint.
