Builds / Re: Regrouping your most fun builds in this topic
« on: October 14, 2019, 11:13:51 pm »
Two interesting builds I've been working with is a tanky machete user with the versatility feat to use shotguns as an alt weapon. It works as an alternative to using grenades and is about as good with some pros and cons by comparison, definitely worth it on like a second playthrough if you used grenades a lot the first time. The other one is a crossbow traps stealth user, especially after a non stealth first game. Traps are super interesting in this game and again, special bolts replacing using grenades makes the whole build feel fresh. Finally someone else said it but pure psi is plenty fun. Now I said second playthrough and stuff a lot, as my first was a tin can assault rifle and grenades guy and I'd say it's effective and stringing together multikills on turns with commando free bursts is nice but it isn't the most "fun" build. One that I haven't had any experience with is going for a stealthy spear thrower and silently stabbing people.

Never even considered the sneaky spear thrower. Sounds like an awesome concept. In the end I went with a tanky machete user with a versatile alt into shotguns which after playing for a while feels like a sort of alt to using grenades with some pros and some cons by comparison but is definitely roughly about as good as going for explosives as an alt.

Builds / Re: Machete/shotgun temp psi support build ------need help!!

Hi, I was the guy in that other thread that was asking about the same thing, doing sword/shotty. If it helps at all here's my differences at lvl 10 just passed the junkyard. Stats 11, 6, 3, 10, 3, 3, 6 (I went with a str/con setup, gonna be a tin can (old habits from my AR tin can die hard I guess). Skills 40 gun, 35 throw, 60 melee, 60 hack/lock, 20 traps, 60 much, 25 elec, 45 chem/tail, 30 Merc (decided I wouldn't go psi since I'm already spread out enough :P). Feats so far are thick skull (benefits of being a beefy boi), versatility, sixth shell, flurry, leading shot, cheap shots, expose weakness (reckless is in my itinerary, party/riposte/ripper are obvious nono's for str, and pellet mayhem, while nice, isn't an essential perk and I think should be either a gap filler while working towards the req's for another perk or at the end. So far my thoughts on the build are that it's not this perfect thing, but most issues are from misperception. By that I mean don't treat the shotgun as a second primary weapon, it's a proxy for speccing into throwing and making grenades and getting the fancy grenades perks. Now if I were to compare and contrast the two of them grenades obviously cost less but have cooldowns so they're not gonna be spammed on one turn anyways. The shotgun burst is great though for deleting a target you can't get to. Skill point and perk point wise they're about the same. Shotguns and their shells cost and weigh more. In the end I'd say it's about even with maybe a 55/45 in favor of grenades. That said shotguns are cool, different, and a melee build is pretty much the only build this off shotty idea would work on (off for a crossbow/traps build is technically doable since you'd have your slots for grenades filled with special bolts, but then you'd just use the special bolts on the armored enemies that'd be the only enemies you'd want to tungsten shell. Not useless, just not nearly worth the investment on a very point hungry specialization).

Builds / Re: Spear / Shotgun / Grenades + psi(support)

Excellent. Not to break forum graces by talking about another topic but you seem to understand builds pretty well and nobody replied to my thread on melee builds. What's your thoughts on a riot gear/sword or iron grip spear build versus a leather armor max agility and strength throwing spear build? And I suppose how that build you think compares to this one which sounds super fun.

This build sounds super fun. I may even want to pick it over the other melee builds I'm trying. Do you think it works with swords too?

Builds / A discussion on a few melee builds

Hi I'm trying to make some builds and I'm having a hard time with melee due to sheer variety of options. The three ideas I've come to are sword (I saw a tanky tin can sword build that looked interesting), riot gear/shield spear with iron grip (some people seem to have issues with the build but I really like the aesthetic so I'd love to hear more on it), and high mobility light armor Spears with an emphasis on throwing them (this seems to be the preferred spear build). Either way, I'd love to hear thoughts on what people like and why so I can narrow this choice down.

Almost sounds like despite the "designed" synergy for Spears and riot shields, you're saying two handing the spear is just plain better for a melee build. And if that's the case, how do you think two handing the spear compares to the other melee options?

Hi, so I'm new to the game (first game just got to Core city as tin can AR build. I'm curious as to what is considered to be a sort of tier list for other builds by type. Most info I found on this subject is before the expansion and thus doesn't include the new stuff added. I'm mostly interested in how spear/shield compares to other melee, how good chem pistols are right now, and how the new psi type compares and shakes up psi builds.
