General / Underrail subreddit

A question for the developers: do you keep an eye on the subreddit? I've seen topics there with good suggestions, bug reports and help requests. I've encouraged some to register and post here in the official forum, but I'm wondering if that's necessary, or even desirable, seeing as the forum is regularly overrun with spam.

The idea would be to make immobilized characters in doorways or tunnels a hindrance instead of a complete movement blockage in combat, to reduce cheese. Something like sidestepping through a tight spot, the animation could even show the character's sprite moving sideways next to the immobilized one. Here are a few ideas to limit the effectiveness of this mechanic:

  • Obviously, no 2 characters can stay in the same square in the map, so this should only be for moving through.
  • Extra movement/action point cost of moving through an immobilized character.
  • Some characters could block doorways even when incapacitated, with a special feat or heavy armor.
  • Maybe limit to stepping through 1 character at a time, ie, 2 incapacitated characters in a row would still block a doorway.
  • Or maybe limit to sidestepping through as many characters as MP/AP allows for, but only for 1 row per turn.
  • Sidestepping only allowed through friendly characters, ie, you can only sidestep through incapacitated characters in your faction?
  • Sidestepping only allowed on higher difficulties?

Suggestions / Music for the Rig

Hearing the waterways music in the Rig seems very out of place, and it's probably the only location in the game where that happens. I realize it might not be practical to have a new one made now, but it would really add some distinct atmosphere to it.

Suggestions / Inventory weight heatmap

Essentially a way to gauge which items are weighing the PC down, enabled and disabled by a toggle/checkbox in the inventory window. The items/stacks could be tinted red in proportion to their percentage of the total carried weight.

As the title says, boots and metal armors adorned with those components would be cooler with such a bonus.

Suggestions / Search textboxes

There's tons of blueprints, so it would be convenient to have a search textbox in the crafting window, to filter by name (and possibly also description and component classes) which ones are visible. The inventory could also use one, but it has tabs, so it's not as important as it would be in crafting.

There's this annoying high pitch whine in this music file. I used Audacity's spectrogram and found it to be a constant ~7khz tone. Applying an equalizer filter solves the problem. Details here.

He might know something nobody else knows about the Acorn. He might not be willing to talk about it, as is usual with him. Anyway, I wanted to bring up the subject, but couldn't.

Suggestions / Show a latcher to Ezra

I brought a latcher from the mushroom forest in a dog crate back to Underrail. Latchers are pretty much the same as borers, they're both psimorphs. Given Ezra's knowledge about psimorphs, demonstrated when he helps with the issues in Foundry, as well as his refusal to elaborate on how he acquired that knowledge, I think it'd be interesting to probe him in conversation about a latcher. I'm not expecting him to admit to much or even anything at all, but it'd be neat to be able to try.

It'd be cool if I could ask Jyles to remove Aran's corpse from my basement. Furthermore, if there are security systems installed, it'd be nice to be able to grill Jyles on their failure, possibly leading to figuring out how he broke in.

After restoring power at the Substation Unit, the plasma mine near the door will respawn, even if I had already stepped on it. Also on that level, the locked door will be locked again if I unlock it before restoring power.

Bugs / Minor bug: respawning oddity

There's a dead scientist near the upper right corner of the robotics level of the Nexus of Technology who'll respawn his watch every time I reenter that level. It's not an infinite xp issue, though, because that watch can only be studied 3 times.
