Suggestion!(RC Cars)
« on: June 20, 2019, 07:04:41 am »
I was playing and i notice a portion where i was able to control a remote controlled vehicle.
I think a really cool addition to maybe the DLC or a future DLC would be to add remote controlled RC cars as a kind of stealth mechanic.

Maybe, like the option to mod your boats and jetskies in the upcoming DLC, i think obtaining and crafting RC cars with stealth, combat mechanics would be really interesting.

Obvious dont make them into a complete power house, but with some further brainstorm with the idea im handing out i think having a craftable, moddable RC car or even drone would be a REALLY cool add on.

Maybe even robo battles with your RC cars!
Like the gauntlet or an area mode but for your Custom RC cars. i think a really interesting quest line can be added with that idea :^)

Obviously once destroyed you can pick up your RC car and with the mechanical repair tool(Even maybe its own custom repair tool) repair your destroyed RC car or drone.

idk, just something i thought i'd throw onto here!

Imagine a quest line where youre in an arena(Like the battlebots arena) where you go through a gauntlet of battling RC cars and drones. Finding parts for your RC car, a whole new stat system for your RC's. Even possibly new feats ( Battlebotter feat - All RC's get a plus 6 bonus to DT ) or something along those lines

I think its something basic that could turn into something really complex!

Hmm, I do like the idea. Though it could be done in a few different ways.

There's the "support drone" approach where you can craft and mod the machine, charge it up and then have it as a combat utility that when activated can be released as a temporary ally while fighting. You could either make it so that it can be broken or you could make it work like shields, where hits drain it's battery power instead of health and when it runs out of power it returns to the character and the utility item deactivates.
You could do a similar thing except make them a one time use item. Or make it so that they last until they're destroyed, and then you need to craft or buy a new one.
It could also be specialised as 'combat drone', 'medic drone', 'stealth-drone', etc.

Another option is to have the drone as a scouting drone. Essentially give it a flat stealth skill based on the crafter's mechanics and allow the character to use the drone to scout stealthed instead of the character. Naturally this wouldn't be as good as stealth since you couldn't interact with things but it would still be useful for scouting and maybe watching round a corner for your character. Would be even better if it could remain undetected when the character is discovered. That way it can still scout round corners so that the player can be ready for enemies before they show themselves. This might even be an effective solution to the instant one-shot kills I kept suffering at the hands of surprise snipers and whatnot. Though to be fair I did make Endurance one of many dump stats that build, haha.

While i like your idea of a robo arena, I would still prefer just more normal arena fights and gauntlet runs. was a little disappointed they weren't as replayable as the npcs suggested.

True! Yeah im just throwing the idea of adding RC's but what's done with that idea i was hoping others, like yourself would contract.
I was thinking they last until destroyed and depending on your skill you can repair it BUT depending on how high your skill is would determine the amount of which its repaired.
Thats why i was saying dont over powerhouse the idea but make it moderate to the point where its helpful and it can change the direction in fights but it doesn't become a strong factor in the outcome.

I was thinking they are only used while in stealth but once they are in contact with the enemy then i was thinking you can proceed to fight using the drone while remaining stealthed which can help you maneuver to a new position in order attack from another angle

But idk, Like i said i just liked the idea and threw it out there!

not to mention the possibility of reusing assets from the power plant quest (maybe ad some utility to the broken bot and now useless remote

quest line would go something like this

-do battery quest
-talk to mechanics and engineering guy
-mechanics/electronics/intelect check to bring up the issue of the robot
-get a quest to go to arena in core city
-arena quest line for drone to unlock special Blueprints and a unique feat that lets you use the robot in combat

If they're going to be adding other PC-controlled combat entities, I'd much rather prefer a party of characters we could recruit.

This would also make the Charisma stat relevant again and require an unholy amount of coding/revision/change, so I just don't see it happening.

You DO realize such a RC scout would just completely trivialize stealth enemies (including crawlers, spiders, etc) and traps?

Not just "help" against them (the way googles that increase detection do), but COMPLETELY neuter them.

Are you assuming the RC scouts would have true-sight? I would agree that giving them true sight would be broken. They should work off the player's perception with some bonuses for things like using night vision lenses in making it. Maybe even other kinds of upgrades like heat detection. Plus, the drone should run in real time, so you'd be leaving your character open to attack. As for it being undetectable, I think it's stealth should be decided by the mechanics skill of the player making it, or on the parts used to make it. If you made it modular then you could even give it things like a stealth generator.

I don't see why a scout would trivialise traps... For one, you could say that it's too light to trigger them, so you couldn't use them to just run though areas you think are trapped if your character doesn't see the traps anyway. Secondly, traps are already trivial. I'm currently playing a character with 3 perception and almost no traps skill (he has a bit because of the synergies with lockpicking and mechanics, I think), and he sees traps almost every time. Once he finds a single trap I know there will probably be other, so I move slowly to make sure he sees the other traps as he moves.

So really, I don't think it would be broken at all.

Ok, simple situation:
Your character walks into a building. It feels like there might be someone or something sneaking around. You immediately drop your RC car, walk into a corner and block the approach path to you with a trap/electrokinetic imprint.
The car goes to explore the building. What choice local crawlers have, exactly?
1) Attack the RC car? All the advantages it had from stealth are lost and the player is now free to engage it.
2) Ignore the car? Car will simply BUMP it out of stealth with high probability.
3) Try to find the player? Yea, path blocked by a trap, so not happening.

Notice how those crawlers are effectively neutered irregardless of cars detection skill, stealth skill, or any special abilities whatsoever.
