Title: French translation
Post by: Leilu on December 20, 2025, 02:49:34 pm
Hi everyone,

Who wants to tackle this with me?

I could get started on it myself, as it’s not the first time I’ve done this for a game, but for now, I’d rather wait a bit until I have everything I need to work properly.

Do you also think it would be preferable to keep most of the proper names of places and characters to maintain a certain style and avoid the Quebecois syndrome of wanting to translate everything even when it doesn't sound as good? I'm thinking in particular of « Hurlevent », which really annoyed me when Blizzard decided to translate everything.

@Styg
1 - There are still a lot of instances of "You must add the entries here yourself." Extracting these entries from the source code yourself would be much easier for you than for us, as we would have to rewrite everything manually with tedious alt-tabs between the game and our IDE.
2 - Please give us the ability to chat in the "READ ME - How to start with localization" thread.
3 - Would it be possible to have access to a localization beta branch on Steam so we can see the changes and test them ourselves?

1. I don't have the means to do that at the moment, especially for stuff such as object names which would require me to write a program to comb through the entire game. Stuff like ability names and such should be easier. I'll see if I can come up with something in the future.

2. I'd like to keep that thread lean. You can make any number of threads to discuss different issues.

3. You can test any changes by just making that folder locally. All the new localization stuff that I put in the game is going onto the main branch.
