Title: Zone Transition Fail
Post by: kpoxo6op on December 29, 2015, 09:33:18 am
I had Zone Transition Fail when using the elevator from Private Quarters.
I fixed it by removing map files from save folder regarding SGS location then experienced it again at Junkyard.
Did the same for Junkyard but got door to Old Junk Yard LOCKED - I am stuck.
Workaround? Patch?

Same is happening for me, by now I can't access Oculus, Panacea Lab in Upper Underrail, one of the Lower Underrail locations, and can't get out of the gate mechanism location in Deep Caverns, so I'm stuck and can't go anywhere as well.

I hope a next patch will be out soon, the game is full of game breaking bugs since the last update.

Reinstalling the game seems to help, I'm able to leave the gate mechanism now. Just make a copy of your saves before uninstalling.

Still can't really play the game because of another game breaking bug, but it's not related.

I have quite often this issue but i manage to get it playable again :

1) Stop the game
2) Go to Documents\my games\Underrail folder
3) Delete cgtemp
4) Close explorer (even if i really doubt it's related or the whole OS should be messy)

It should work now again. If it persist, you may have to delete config.dat too.

Thanks for the great game, I LOVE it.
If my save is screwed, please let me know how to hack that door to the Old Junkyard.

I don't have other saves (I messed them up trying to restore them)

Windows 7.

As far as I remember, by now I can't access:

Most of the SGS floors, except for the private quarters.

Cave with Modre.

SGS port.

Upper metro station in Core City.

Oculus (itself, I can access the cave with the entrance).

Panacea Lab in Upper Underrail.

One of the locations in Lower Underrail, but I don't remember which one. It was near the Rail Crossing metro station if I remember correctly.

What's your mail?

my OS - Windows 10.
I can't access any floor by elevator at SGS except Armory range and all Junkyard. I've never had any crashes.

My Games.zip is 9.4MB, I emailed it but copied it to Dropbox as well.
There are some Transition fail logs on Junkyard and SGS, some crash logs due to messing up with save files.

Btw, are either of you using any synchronization software that goes through your Documents folder?

Nothing that I am aware of.  No Dropbox, backup or syncing stuff. I have installed fresh Windows 10 just to play the game - downloaded a web browser, Total Commander, Steam, bought Underrail.

When I got my saves corrupted I went to Indexing Options and excluded My Games folder from indexing.
It looked like this -
http://cloud.addictivetips.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/indexingoptions1.jpg

Just one more thing. I installed Windows 10 as the second OS, there is also MacOS on my primary partition. There is syncing software running on MacOS but it only reads Windows files while I am running MacOS and Windows is shut down.

Nothing that I know of.

I'd like to add that everything is fine if I start a new game, it gets progressively worse the more I play from what I've seen. By now I can't access any SGS floor except for private quarters and metro train.

Got another zone transition error in Hollow Earth.

Also, because for some bloody reason this board doesn't like special characters and keeps cutting off text that contains them, here the log file:

I've sent you both mails regarding the issue.

Just to update other people potentially having Zone Transition Fails -
my save files were corrupted significantly and could not be restored, which means I am going to start a new game at version 1.0.0.6 (saves were damaged playing 1.0.0.5) and hope it does not reoccur.

My advise - do multiple saves and copy your save file somewhere else time to time.
Thanks Styg for his help.

You also might want to check your disk for errors. It sounds unlikely but from what I've been able to investigate in another case it seems that some save files got corrupt by just copying them to a different location.

- No Sync software;
- No AV;
- An SSD that I bought 3 months ago. Shows no signs of IO failure at all.

I got this error today too a couple of times. Here's what I have in the log:

And it once failed to load the autosave it did when failing to transition. It stopped happening after exiting and opening the game again, though and was able to access any area I tried.

This is on W7 64bit, i7 2600k, 24GB RAM, GTX 460

Oh, and version is 1.0.0.0 mostly because I'm afraid if I update during a playthrough something will go wrong. :)

I'm having such an error after 3 hours of playing, when I try to get back to the Commons:

My savegame is here: http://venion.net/filez/Underrail.zip (http://venion.net/filez/Underrail.zip)

I would like to post my full log, but for some reason it gets cut at the word "Ausnahmestapel" all the time. The Log is in the zip, also.

Did you fix the  SMF (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_Machines_Forum) locale to accept non-ASCII characters like all those super-fancy speech marks MSOffice likes to insert?

If this can help :

Running GOG v 1.0.1.10 Windows 8.1 (looks like the 32 bits version), I could play for tens of hours without any issue, then I suffered from the same "transition failures" or "save failures" as everyone else.

- Restarting the game did not help
- (tip found somewhere) Adding the top save directory to the exclusion list of my antivirus (Avast) did not help
- (tip found elsewhere) Adding the top save directory to the exclusion list for the indexer (yes, the infamous Windows Search Indexer) did not help
- (tip found nowhere, but derived from some hint about XNA being involved) Rebooting the computer did it. No further issues since then 5 hours play.

SuNo

EDIT: I confirm that rebooting worked for me a second time.

I'm just guessing here, but... it seems like something else on your machine tinkered with the process memory and broke the save - perhaps a memory editing tool like cheat engine?

Yes, it was at the beginning of the game, a lot hours ago and days, when I had known nothing about Junkyard. And that is more important: I've already been on every location where I can't reach now. So I don't see any connection between the cheat engine and the game stopper.

Hello everyone.

First of all, i bought Underrail many years ago when it was still on Desura under the name Timelapse Vertigo and unfortunately i just had the chance to actually get into it a few of weeks ago. Just wanted to say that the game is preposterously good, i just can't get enough of it. I hope we get a sequel at some point, i would pay any price for it.

Now to the issue at hand and the reason i highjacked this thread. There is a certain area where i get a "Zone transition failed" error. I have not encountered this error anywhere else  just at this place and i am not sure if it's gonna be important to the story of the game. Any information would be helpful.
