So I spent ~110+ hours on my first playthrough with a really, really bad crossbow/traps build spamming bear traps, abusing LoS and reloading areas to heal/recharge shields.
For some unholy reason I managed to get past everything, past junkyard, past Arena, and managed to sneak through most of mushroom forest and through wiki magic I also got to be friends with the tchortists and the faceless.
But I can't kill tchort "normally".
I had managed to craft corrosive acid bolts before running out of resources and the only way I can kill tchort is to get 3+ corroded debuffs, then nuke it with grenade + 8 mkV frag mines and 3 mkIII frag mines to finish the beast.

My question is how do players get so much damage at level 20?
I restarted and wanted to try a pistol/talking build with max persuasion and intimidation. After that I'll do a psi or melee build.
My usual damage is ~200 per turn, but I don't see other builds getting higher damage. Keep in mind I also haven't played with psi or other builds yet.
Googling around leads me to see damage numbers well into ~300-800 damage per turnfrom other players (and possibly old builds of the game).
I would like to play the way I want to and kill tchort using the same tactic but I need corrosive bolts or a similar debuff otherwise tchort only goes down to ~700 hp with the same amount of frag mines. I tried toxic gas grenades but tchort doesn't get the contaminated debuff unless there's a spot to throw at besides the eye.
Need help since I don't want to start a build with this plan in mind then get all the way through Deep Caverns to tchort and not have enough dps to kill it.

Ok, I'll retry the fight and get to the mutagen tanks. When reading experiences from other posters I got the feeling that destroying the tanks only slowed down Tchort regeneration (not eliminate regeneration entirely) since I can't keep up massive damage or survive long enough under fire from Tchorlings + tentacles on my build. I might use my frag mines on the tanks instead and try to fight Tchort with elemental bolts.
As for my low level, I got out of Core City and met the Tchortists first and liked their story so I decided to finish their questline first as well. I never got the feeling that (spoiler!)Eidein/Faceless fight throws you into the Deep Caverns, cut off from the rest of the world and XP . So I never got to do Free Drones/Protectorate questlines.
Getting to the Deep Caverns didn't bother me as much once I realized to switch to survival mode and save all my items. I switched out to the phase gun for Arke and saved my elemental bolts for Tchort. It was a good thing I had the biohazard suit + high stealth otherwise Mushroom Forest or the Deep Worms might have made me ragequit Deep Caverns and get a non sucky crossbowman build.
I feel like if my newer builds suck/aren't going to survive the fight I think would just spend one level on leveling crossbows, then craft corrosive acid bolts + mkV frags and nuke Tchort again.

W2C ammo, then Sniper feat, then Aimed Shot... Does wonders, especially with high caliber snipers.

Yeah with my new character I think I can blaze through most of the early game and get past Junkyard easily.
I guess I'll also stockpile W2C ammo from early game so I can burn through them at Deep Caverns.
