Good day.
Does anyone have information about Expedition release date? 8)
-
No release date yet, but I can say we're in the finishing stages of development and the expansion is currently being alpha tested.

Very sad ((( I was really hoping to play in DLC at new year holidays...
If it's not a secret, will there be a beta test after the alpha test? Usually alpha is a very early version of the product.

The testing will be continuous until we release and it will remain invite-only, though we may expand the current roster of testers at some point. Alpha just means that we are not feature complete yet, the game development is nearing the end.

Understood. Thanks for the answer. Good luck with the development!
-
So there is the answer I was looking for, I got the game but didn't want to start over if the expansion was going to be released in December. At least I can now play it over the holidays without worrying about starting over half way.

If you're anything like the rest of us you'll end up replaying the game many times anyway. Nothing else really measures up to be honest :P

In terms of crafting system and feats design, Underrail is the best in a modern RPG. It has an amazing stealth system as well.
I prefer Age of Decadence/Dungeon Rats combat/skills system though.
-
AoD was amazing to me, but not because of combat - which was also good, but the choice and consequence system the game is built upon was the real draw. Sadly it doesn't get as much praise as it deserves, just like UnderRail. It's interesting how many supposedly hard core rpg players are round but when two rpgs come out and they end up being pretty much the best stuff release in the last 10 years they get overlooked.

I'm curious, how did they make a better skills system?

Exactly, that's when I understood the enviroment - industry have changed, when they pised Witcher 3 and told nothing about Underrail.
If Fallout was made today, it would have same status as Underrail - indie game not many know about.
If you aren't AA at least, you can't win anything today.

And yeah, I probably was slow in that, and shoudl have know better.

Great to hear. Still as hyped as ever. Take your time! :D
-
Thread makes me happy. As a real oldschook rpg fan they are my two favorite games of modernity. 1800 hrs in Underrail, 400 in AoD
-
So if I still haven't properly started my first playthrough (I had played through the tutorial just when I noticed the expansion announcement) should I wait until the expansion comes out or is it an entirely separate experience? I don't have that much time to play video games, so I doubt I'll do multiple playthroughs any time soon.
-
It is a new area that only becomes available around the mid game. Generally you would not go there before level 15 on Easy or Normal difficulty. If playing on Hard or Dominating you likely would wait until even later.
When the DLC comes out you can jump into it on your current save.
-
This has already been said by Styg
-
I'd also seen mention that the DLC will flesh out various non-DLC areas of the game with new quests/characters/etc, is this true? The post before last gives the impression it's more self contained.
-

Is there an official confirmation somewhere that the expansion will not require starting a new save? If so then that's great!

I can not find you a link to this, but the fact that you don`t need to start a new game is for sure.

Since the topic is called the "Expedition release date" can clarify how the testing is going and how much is left to wait?
-
Styg has made a few DevLog posts about that. To sum up what has been posted here already: testing is going well, the testers have been helpful in identifying problems, the problems have been or are being fixed, and Styg will not guarantee a release date for the expansion.
That said, it looks like (from the outside, as a tester with no special privileges or information) it's getting fairly close. There's a page for it on Steam now; that's a good sign.

Well, since there is no exact information, we hope that the matter is coming to an end.
-
What I can say is that essentially there are no new assets being developed for the expansion (in terms of new character, areas, quests, etc) and we are only polishing up the existing stuff, wrapping up the quest-lines and testing and tweaking the game mechanically. It will take a while longer, but the end is clearly in sight.

Is it possible to somehow explain the completion of testing as a percentage? Approximately...
-
Well, the content that is currently available to alpha testers have been decently tested. What still remains to be thoroughly tested is the end dungeon and the various ending variations.

I understand that both the developers and testers gave a non-disclosure subscription)). Well, probably 70-80% has already been done. This makes me happy.

Does it count if I confirm it? Base game saves will be compatible with the expansion. But Qiox, as well others with purple forum "stars", are currently alpha testing the expansion, so you can take their word as semi-official confirmation.
That works for me. Only question I have left is when you say "compatible" does that mean you can you access all expansion areas and content with an excisting save from base game or is it like a Civ thing where the game works but the "ruleset" is different depending on whether you started the save before or after the installation of the expansion?

You should go read the Devlogs. Styg answers that in Devlog 47:
b. You will be able to use the new mechanics while doing the old content, yes. The DLC will be a seamless part of the existing world. You can also do the new DLC content after finishing the original campaign, as long as you don't trigger the actual end-game sequence.

I think it's pretty unreasonable to expect new players to read 50 pages of devlog in hopes that their question might be answered somewhere along the way but thank you for providing the conclusive answer to my question.
Great game by the way.

It's been quarter of a year since the last devblog... Any news by any chance?

Nope.
I keep checking back every month and there's rarely any new details or anything. It's been years. What the heck? lol.
At this point I'm wondering if it'll ever be released.
Actually, I've been thinking that for at least the past year. Idk why I even check this anymore.

I'm pretty sure they're just about done with everything except the final quest and some tests, there's no reason to lose hope... yet...

Yes, no one loses hope. Just testing strongly delayed. I remember, it began from the end of September 2018, and now April 2019.

You could say that Expedition is currently in beta: pretty much feature-complete and being internally tested by the devs. The bulk of alpha testing/updating was concluded months ago; closed alpha is at the exact same version as public branches. https://steamdb.info/app/250520/depots/
I see the Base Content (2.76 GiB) is half the size of the DLC (4.96 GiB)... Or is there a size 2 in 1?

I have the impression that the requirements for the game will increase.

Well, we know from the DevLogs that the Expedition content will include new maps, new NPCs and enemies, new weapons and transportation options (and the accompanying character animations). Art takes up a lot of space. I wouldn't worry just yet about system requirements (aside from, obviously, some additional hard drive space for the content). I'm sure if there needs to be a change we'll hear about it.
-
Expedition is bigger than the base game in filesize, mostly due to lots of jetski and character spritesheets. Overall the expansion is maybe half or one third of the base game in size.
Doesn't Expedition only add 5 levels? That sounds like a lot of content for just 5 levels. I expected something more modest.

Veteran levels require 60 XP each on Oddity, so it's like 10 regular levels (starting from level 14).

It's anything but, which is why it's taking so long.
-
Assuming I can use my character & inventory from the main game? And if so, do I need the main game downloaded or just my save game files?

It's seamless, so you don't import your character from the base game to Expedition. Expedition is just part of UnderRail, and you play the new content more or less when you want (though almost all of the new content - like almost all of the base game - requires you get out of SGS first). And yeah, as Styg mentioned in a DevLog somewhere, you can use your existing character as long as you haven't actually triggered the endgame sequence yet, so you could even do the content after returning from DC.

Signed up to say I bought the base game ages ago (thanks for the readable font by the way. You'd be surprised how many devs forget that... or would you?) and when the expansion launches, I'm going to buy it and stream it (unless you want to sponsor me, lol.)
I'm going in 99% blind. I tried the base game enough to figure out that yes, in fact, I am capable of playing it. I want to be surprised, amazed, and capture all of it for posterity.

I truly do hate those letter verification things. That static hurts.
