Anyone know the route? I've been exploring around and can't find the route, other than exploding rocks in GMS cave.
Also, where's Milton?

But why not just get the energy pistol from Elwood? It's extremely easy to get it, much easier than getting to Milton and dealing with him. Honestly, though I haven't looked in a long time, I'm not even sure how to get to Milton pre-drill.
Just go do the first two Scrappers quests. That'll get you an energy pistol, easy as pie.

If my memory is correct, I think Milton is accessible (without having to destroy rocks) via the Upper Caves. There's an entrance to the caves two zones south of the SGS platform/barracks level. Initially, there should be a cave with pigs/warthogs; from there, keep heading north (three or four area transitions, I think) and you'll eventually find Milton. Be warned, there are definitely Azuridae Goliathus (at least on DOMINATING) in a couple of the areas you'll have to pass through, in addition to the usual rathounds, pigs, and siphoners. I think the dead man with the key is two or three areas southeast of Milton.

Is energy pistol guaranteed loot at Elwood? I remember sometimes I didn't get it
South of SGS, which means crossing the rail roads through "blue portal" underground passage? I think there's nothing around there, only an empty barrel at the end of track
Also, is there any guaranteed acid / Chem pistol somewhere this early? (although acid pistol might be useless pre-drill parts)

To Milton (Hard mode) :
From SGS platform, go South, exit the SGS fence, then South again, to a dead end with rathounds, alphas and a dead man inside a room. Here is a small cave exit to the West amonh the mindshrooms. Go in to the cave, past pigs/warthogs, then North. Past many many psi beetles, keep heading North, Milton is past the river in the end. The Key to the locker is East, with many rathounds and alphas.
Elwood has an energy pistol in his locker. It can be any kind: laser, plasma or electro, it is RNG. Get his key, get past the sentries and mines and it is yours. This is generally the first energy gun you can easily and comfortably find, usually around clvl 6-8.

Btw, are there any negative consequences if you kill Milton after returning the key to him?
(Other than the fact he is quite though, and the non-measurable but significant damage to your personal ethics and morals from killing innocent people in caves)

AFAIK he's just a side character, aside from moral and an act of lowest scum, killing him after clearing his quest should be fine

Who is to say he's innocent? He seems super sketchy to me.

No one is purely Good in Underrail. Maybe dude, but he overcharged his cat, so I don't think it's an act of innocence.
