Title: Your favorite/best build?
Post by: redgoesfastfastfastfast on September 24, 2020, 09:11:04 am
Over the past few weeks i've been unsuccessfully trying to make a "perfect" build. (read: one with reliable damage, reliability*, crowd control and crafting plus optionally persuasion and lockpicking/pickpocketing/hacking)

(* one that doesn't save scum 5+ times for a single fight)

Since what I want is probably impossible, I want to ask y'all, what is your favorite build and why?

A lot of builds can do exactly that. It comes down to how you play it. Some of us have been playing this game for years and we know where those stealthy snipers are.

But here's the build I played the game with last. I died less than 5 times for the entire playthrough.

Got any advice? have already played for ~300 hours but am not as good at the game as my time would suggest.

edit: main reason I suck is prob my reluctance to use consumeables like focus stim (tho im fine with grenades and "essentials" like adrenaline shot)

edit2: here are my last builds

one above had problems with aoe + I hate the move and shoot penalty lol

current one:

note: pyrokinesis and pyromania + pry stream is hella fun

I find them a bit invariable. Both don't have Throwing which takes away quite a bit. Killing enemies with Psi or bullets alone is a slog for the first half of the game.

I've always been a huge fan of hybrids. Now more than ever there's a point of mixing combat styles with Psi.

I'd trade a heavy investment into Lockpicking for a bit of Pickpocketing in a heartbeat. Hacking, for that matter, as well. It's a fairly late game skill as it's benefits are sporadic at best. Traps doesn't require too heavy an investment into. One Psi discipline is fine when in doubt. Mercantile helps a ton.

Ive ironmanned the game on dom without metagaming up to lvl 26 with a stealthy TM AR gunner.  I did a run where I got almost every single oddity exp in the game while being a moralfag.  That was a TM swordsman with very spread out skills.  The trick is basically stealth + high damage weapon + CC/AoE damage + TM + high initiative or high detection + high mp, the rest is just player skill.

I'm going to invest in throwing actually! (note the 69 chemistry on both, I *always* use frags mk iv when I play dominating) I just usually prolong it till level 15 or so since earlier on I find there are more important things

P.S: Mind recommending a build that doesn't rely on consumeables? Grenades are fine.

edit: HulkOSaurus thoughts on shotgun feats + sniper over xbow and sniper? using that on the sniper build atm since I needed something w/o a move and shoot penatly

Shotguns don't require as much investment as xbows do. With only Sixth Shell and Leading shot those become a solid choice against a lot of the enemies in the game. Leaning towards Tactical single fire shotties, personally.

newest build, thoughts? dislike relying on crits

also kinda surprised at the lack of replies, though more people would wanna share their buids.

edit: turn on crafting bonus

did you find decapitate and ripper worth it? had a similiar build and the issue was accuracy* not damage (was able to do like ~300+ per flurry at level 14 when I landed attacks, did enough damage to kill Carnifex on dominating at level ~14)

That's hard to answer.  I wasn't struggling at all so it's not like I had any build regrets.

my favorite build is the same as any other game which allows me to create my own characters,
stealth ranged build.
in underrail case, crossbow trapper with beeg stealth.
its especially nice in underrail because you could just disregard any defense and put maximum offense, just rely on your tactical superiority (cheesing the game)
