Bugs / Temporary Freezing Glitch and Crashing

Hi,
Great game. Just bought it and look forward to seeing it complete. Problem is that the game freezes for about three or four seconds every minute or two. It's really annoying. First I noticed that the mouse would just stop working for a few seconds and then start again, then I noticed it's the whole game. Keyboard doesn't respond either during these short freezes. Music still plays seamlessly and then it all starts working again for another minute or two before freezing again...
Also, game has crashed on me several times already in different places. First place with cave hoppers and fisherman and a couple places in the initial base. That's about as far I've made it so far (hour or so). I can't play the game anymore as it sits now. My one criticism for the actual game itself so far is the very tiny text. It seems uncomfortably small my relatively large laptop screen. Eye straining for sure.
My computer is a Dell with Windows 7 with a intel I7 core...
