Bugs / Game Crash When Destroying Shadowlith in Abyssal Station

I am trying to destroy the shadowlith in the underground Abyssal station. The game keeps on crashing, generally when the void-lings try running into my exothermic aura (I guess that protection strategy is working too well?)

I'm on Legacy, 1.1.1.6. Eh, seems like it's not triggering anymore after sleep after I destroyed the shadowlith.

So I end up getting the pirate spy/Technician exposed first thing off the boat due to my kleptomania. I get told he was a pirate spy, and even get a free key to an Aegis Patroller from Briggs for getting it preemptively stopped. I end up exploring the Health Center and Nexus of Tech, report back and get the mission to fetch the ACoNR. I go to sleep to try and get some of the text, and then next morning the professor is still kidnapped, and they mention a Technician as a spy. Is this always going to happen?
