Builds / Fists and gloves vs Robots

Hi all I'm finishing my 2nd playthrough on hard and planning my first dom run
I was thinking about either fists or gloves but I've heard they have trouble vs robots and I really don't want something with blatant flaws for my first dom run
Is either of them good vs bots?
If not what would you consider the most all around good melee weapon?
