Builds / Beginner looking for a tank build that uses guns.

Hello,
I am a new player who just got underrail+expedition and has no idea what they're doing, I've heard the game is better experienced when you don't have to worry about making a build on the fly.
What I'm looking to be able to do is wear heavy armour, use a gun (probably a shotgun) as well as grenades and/or traps, and maybe get my armour and grenades/traps via crafting.
I don't really want to focus on psi stuff, but dabbling in some aspects of it is fine if required.
Overall, I would like to play a heavily armoured character that uses guns and other tricks such as grenades and/or traps to get the job done. Do tell me if this is spread too thin, and if it is the priority is being a heavily armoured dude.
