Bugs / Disappearing KEY items

I've started two games since the DLC came out. and on both my runs some key items have suddenly just disappeared rendering my unable to finish some quests. first time it was the battery recipe thing which you have to get using the remote controlled robot. now on my 2nd playtrough its the GMS compound key. both times I had the items on my inventory, but then later on after wandering around saving loading etc the item(s) were suddenly gone.
