Bugs / Re: [0.1.6.0] Base abilities & skill synergies bugged
« on: March 19, 2013, 07:18:54 pm »
Found the bug, thanks.

Base ability value of 4 is the mid point where you get neither bonuses nor penalties. The problem was that the penalties weren't calculated properly (weren't negative) so the base ability value of 3 had the same effect as base ability value of 5.

I don't think there's anything wrong with synergies though. Synergies cannot boost your skill beyond its level maximum (10 + 5 per level) so if you're already maxing out a skill you won't get any bonuses to it from investing into its synergistic skills.

Same here, the 6-8 trilogy is my favourites, especially the eighth one.

As long as it's better than M&M IX, I'm happy, man that game was horrible. I don't have too high hopes either, considering how Ubi have destroyed the M&M franchise over the years. My only hopes are that they hire a good enough studio to get the job done.

Yep, after HoMM 6 (or MM:H 6 as they rebranded it) I swore not to get hyped about another M&M title.

General / Re: Assault Rifles in the latest alpha build (1.6.0)
« on: March 19, 2013, 05:15:34 pm »
Assault rifles can be enhanced with everything sniper rifles can.

Assault rifles do more up front damage (their attacks cost more AP but deliver more damage per bullet) so they are superior to SMGs when fighting heavily armored targets.

Correction: the difference in enhancements is snipers can add barrel retractors, while assault rifles can add scopes.

I'm a big fan of Might and Magic 7/8, but I'm pretty sure this won't be anything like that.

General / Will the game ever be available for Mac/Linux?
« on: March 18, 2013, 04:36:52 pm »
Here's a quick word about possible portability of Underrail because I get asked this a lot.

The reason why Underrail is Windows only is because it's built using C# and .NET, and based on Microsoft's XNA technology.

Now, because Microsoft has since decided to discontinue their XNA development I will also be moving away from it in the development of future games.

One of the possible alternatives is Monogame, which as I understand is a cross-platform implementation of XNA based on Mono (the cross-platform .NET implementation). So if I decide to try out this technology in some future development I will test it out by trying to port Underrail to it.

So it's possible that as some point we will see Underrail on Linux and Mac, but that certainly won't be anytime soon and neither can I make any concrete promises regarding that.

General / Re: Is Shielding in-game yet?

It's not in the game yet, but it's coming.

I'm still not 100% of the how exactly they are going to work, but the basic idea is that they will shield different amounts for different impact speed, as opposed to damage types, so to give another dimension to the combat.

Thanks for the report. Found quite a few of those in the SGS and fixed them all.

Hi Rdevil,

You still open the sealed boxes with haxxors though you will need to power them now using batteries. Haxxors are still sold in couple of places. For example, Ezra at the engineering level in SGS sells them. Keep in mind that opening electronic locks uses hacking skill, not lockpicking.

Stuff from the development log does not appear in the game until the new version is released. You'll then have to re-download the game from GamersGate (they don't have an automated patching system). Keep in mind that because of the logistics the new version does not appear on all game portals simultaneously. Keep an eye on the twitter or the facebook page where I'll let you know exactly when it's available where.

You can read more about how saves are handled between different version here: http://underrail.com/forums/index.php?topic=228.0.

Cheers.

Suggestions / Re: Powered Armor?
« on: March 17, 2013, 09:40:25 pm »
I'm not a big fan of (at least fallout's) power armor concept because it tends, by its nature, to be "the best armor". And all the other types of armors you use up to that point only serve to get you there. It's basically the heaviest of armors without any disadvantages of being that.

Having it drain resources while active is not a bad idea, but the problem is that the player can always save the armor and the batteries for specific fights and events, so you still have to account for it.

So in short, don't expect a fallout style power armor to be introduced. However, what I will probably add is an ability to add certain powered components to heavy armors (metal armor and possibly other future types of heavy armor) during crafting that might augment some of your abilities or provide additional armor effects while powered.

Thank you guys for spreading the word. If we keep this up Underrail should be greenlit by the time it's ready for the full release. 8)

I can happen with any damage over time affect. Don't worry it will be fixed in the next patch (for realsies this time!).

As maheusz said, it's not only allowed but encouraged.

I love when people upload their gameplay videos as it generates additional interest in the game and is also just about the most valuable type of feedback I can get. :)

gray label = searched

I never noticed that, thanks! :D

He probably meant this as a suggestion. This is not implemented.

I'll probably add suffix "(empty)" for the containers that were searched and are empty.
