That happens when visual priority hasn't been set for particular gates. I have no idea how many of those are in the game right now, but we'll fix them as we (or the players) find them. Fixed!

General / Re: The lost train, persuasion and joining the Free Drones
« on: October 16, 2017, 02:52:22 pm »
Uh, it's a bug. IIRC You're not supposed to have the [Lie] option after persuading the Drones to hand over the train, and thus none of the weird "you messed up our plans real bad but we still really like you" gets to happen. However, I could leave the lie option for those players who want to be absolute jerks, as Sanger pointed out, but the Drones won't approach you after that, of course.

What do you guys think?

I think it's fine as is, but you never know what Styg does if he stumbles upon this horrible gamebreaking bug.

Nerf it to a mere "breaking" bug. :D

It should. Fixed for the next patch. Already picked up item won't be affected, though.

Found 2 oddities on body of Faceless Centaur - bug or is it normal for it?

It's intended.

Can you give me an example?

On a side note, isn't homeopathy as a whole basically just... placebo?
With such placebo effectiveness I have different question - isn't official medicine a placebo effect too?

If I'm understanding your question correctly, then the answer is no. Modern medicine is effective at treating health conditions, whereas homeopathy is not.

You are correct. I think I got that particular datum from one of Neil deGrasse Tyson's lectures, and doing a quick Google search I found this quote from him: "The four most common chemically active elements in the universe - hydrogen, oxygen, carbon and nitrogen - are the four most common elements of life on Earth. We are not simply in the universe. The universe is in us." Here he says "chemically active" elements, which is an important distinction, but then again he himself might've accidentally omitted it during that lecture and I didn't verify it before I wrote that piece of dialogue.

However, there's a certain thing I'd like to point out. Nitrogen comes seventh in the universe if we look at the mass fraction, but things can be a bit different if we look at the mole fraction.

If I'm reading this thing correctly, here nitrogen seems more abundant than neon and iron -> https://www.webelements.com/periodicity/abundance_universe_a/

Also, interestingly -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abundance_of_the_chemical_elements - if you scroll to Solar System and sort the list by atom fraction in parts per million, Nitrogen-14 is fifth again (but that's just the Solar System).
Similar thing here, but now it's sixth -> http://www.knowledgedoor.com/2/elements_handbook/element_abundances_in_the_solar_system.html (again only for the Solar System).

In any case, thanks for the correction. I'll modify the dialogue for the next version. Even though Underrailers live underground and haven't even seen the sky or the stars in their life, she's been studying in the Oculus(!) for a while and should have good estimates; some characters are allowed to be wrong, as they often are in real life, but not in this case. Cheers! :)

Well, even though Underrail is a post-apocalyptic world where you can also be treated by a man who used to dump people who hadn't yet died down a corpse chute in the Arena, I still felt the need to primarily address the claim that placebo isn't used outside clinical studies in the modern world and that it is therefore absurd to have a character in the game use such treatment on a patient. My post is relevant to Pasquale's situation in the sense that, heck, if placebo is used in real-life medical practice and is apparently used fairly frequently, then its use in Underrail shouldn't be absurd at all. Underrail is not the modern world, sure, but it shares a lot with it, obviously, and relevant examples from real life help believability in my opinion.

Now when it comes to "good" and "bad" medicine that I mentioned, placebo often relies on some kind deception, and that can affect the patient's trust if the patient were to find out he's been deceived; also, there is a difference between prescribing impure placebo such as multivitamins or antibiotics and pure placebo sugar pills or, say, doing sham surgery in more extreme cases, and people might react to that to varying degrees. Furthermore, some consider deception unethical no matter the context, a sentiment that could be shared by Underrail characters as well (more likely by those who work in better conditions than Pasquale, but still).

And lastly - homeopathy. :D You are right about what you wrote, Sanger, but the thing I was aiming at when I mentioned it was that, considering the lack of evidence for any therapeutic efficacy of homeopathic medicine and that any positive effects, if and when they occur, are thus merely the result of a placebo; one can from a practical standpoint only treat it as, well, placebo (at best), regardless of intentions. Granted, there are some problems with that, and maybe I should have left homeopathy out of this, for many (heh) reasons. But it's there now, so that's that.

I hope that clears up a few things. :) No tl;dr, sorry.

Yeah. I'd like to touch up those dialogues a bit and inject some reactivity, extra flavor and skill checks where applicable, but that'll have to wait until after we're done with the expansion. *sigh*

Fixed all of them but the GMS hourglass one. Got a save for that one, perhaps?

As for being able to target unlocked containers, it's not a bug, it just... is. :D You can also hack lockers, btw, and you'll see the hacking bar but won't be able to open them, of course. Anyways, we probably won't change anything regarding those.
