Builds / Re: Dominating Expedition Psi Build > Advice needed
« on: July 22, 2019, 06:06:35 pm »
Cool thanks, guess I'll try to recreate my old char. Is there any point in taking the health cost for psi abilities feat with a tranq build though? I was thinking of going with 6 con so it's very close if I wanted to grab it.

edit: Threw this together quickly, thoughts? It's not minmaxed, more of a casual stroll through UnderRail build. My last char was close to this (minus the new feats obviously) and I had a pretty easy time with it.

Figured I'd use this thread to ask - my last dominating psi char used tranquility instead of psychosis - is this option still competitive now that we have feats with further psi cost reduction?

I like crossbows because they are pretty balanced, power wise. Plus the Expedition is bringing some cool new feats that have potential to make this playstyle a little more dynamic.
What ones do you refer to?

Strafe (new) + Hit and Run + Concussive shots, Versatility (new) + Expose weakness. And then you can mix it up further with specialisation points.

For my first effort I am going to take it from where I left off, and that is pistol builds. Hopefully I will be able to strengthen my character with new feats or even the new psi school, but I haven't thought about it yet.  Eventually, I am going to try all new available weapons.

Against my better judgement I'll probably play a crossbow again, with quick tinkering, deadly snares and grenadier (for burrower spawns, The Beast etc). It's a relatively unique playstyle that's very under represented in RPGs which along with stealth nature of the build is the main draw for me. Sure the snipers are probably more powerful but there's something to be said about silently dispatching enemies 1 by 1 if positioning permits.

Oh man, I have tried twice to get a Xbow character going, but I always dropped it quickly. I love the strategic nature of the build in situations where I can survey the landscape and use it to my advantage, but in other situations I often found myself lacking raw power and AP.

Generally, I don't mind it when a build has specific disadvantages. However, I feel that I haven't figured out how I am supposed to play such a build. I would quickly replace it with a sniper/pistol build. The advantage of having a pistol as a secondary weapon far outweighed the Xbow's advantages in my tries.

I like crossbows because they are pretty balanced, power wise. Plus the Expedition is bringing some cool new feats that have potential to make this playstyle a little more dynamic.

They don't, sadly.

Stealth is very beneficial to shotties because you have to be almost in melee range to do any real damage. Trenchcoat is an obvious choice so you can roleplay as Detective Kimble.

Personally I wouldn't focus on shotties alone though. They pair really well with snipers so maybe consider going that route.

Yes it's completely viable. You don't have to find all oddities to reach max level.

Full psi char is like an uber mage, you have so much CC that you won't even need to dodge and evade.

Expedition also adds new feats and if you have a high level character (20 or so) you night be tempted to restart anyway because some are really good.

It doesn't matter if you're in alpha or not but I'm curious what the people are going to roll, what difficulty you intend to play and the reasoning behind the builds.

And as an added bonus it's a high perception character, meaning you get to see most of the hidden passages and secrets.

I will most likely play on Hard difficulty.

In most cases, yes, but Versatility was introduced specifically for such strange builds. You can do weird stuff with it.

Offensive skills without feats to supports them are still severely underpowered though. Maybe you could get by with sledges for melee and ARs for guns since they don't require heavy feat investment.

Please?

I can't just start playing on release day without properly planned build.

Fwiw, the new feats are very intuitive and seamlessly fit into the old builds. If you're familiar with the game it shouldn't take your more than 5-10 minutes to come up with a version that's an extension of the build you're already familiar with.

Quick-tinkering makes a huge difference.

I would say the difference is such that you are bored to play that build at all after ome time - too easy.

Might be different now after a nerf. And I'd argue that crossbow really need traps because of how costly each miss is.

and maybe an odd Finn
Really, is there any other kind?

Excuse me! There are weird ones as well. Seriously though I won't have much time to play it. I'll just check the build files, steal some precious pixels and update my things.

We're counting on you to have the calculator ready for launch! :)

I'd love to help out with testing as well.
