General / Re: Best XP system with Dominating

Oddity is the only way for me regardless of difficulty. Classic XP is boring.

Correct me if I am wrong, but your goal, so far as I can understand it from these quotations, is to see if it is possible -- on Dominating difficulty, mind you -- to develop a Dodge & Evasion build that can push most enemies' chance to hit below 50% (preferably 10%, if not full immunity) by the time that the player commonly encounters them (e.g. a level 5 character dodging rathounds and burrowers in the early-game) without use of Uncanny Dodge & Evasive Maneuvers. Correct? This is what you are testing the viability of?

Doesn't that sound a little... unrealistic? This is the hardest difficulty in the game, mind you. It's called "DOMINATING," in all caps, for a reason. There's even a disclaimer on it that says "We do not guarantee that the game can be completed in this mode so choose at your own peril." It shouldn't be a cake-walk.

That must be Classic XP though, not Oddity.

Yes on the surface the goal might seems overly ambitious, but the increased amount of enemies on dominating also means it's possible to power level. By cherry picking fights and easy quests I was able to reach level 14 beating depot A and level 17 just by exploring core city killing thugs and mutants. Combine max level w/ jumping beans, adrenaline, infused leather gear + boxing gloves it *might* be possible to reach my goal for everything pre-Tchortist. We'll see. :)

General / Re: Does anyone actually use Extended Magazines in crafting?
« on: December 19, 2017, 04:39:18 am »
A single one sure. Two or more? Be ready to press F9.
a Psi build shouldn't have any problems with any rathounds before opening up the world and meeting Ancient Rathounds.  Even then, as long as you have traps or good mobility you should still have no problems.  All you need is a flare and the normal&Alpha ones go running.  Grab/craft a molotov or two and make good use of the fences and the beginning rathounds are trivial; get to safety while they're scared, then take your time and shock them through closed fences.

You sound like you get hit a lot in combat.  If you're playing a psi build - even one with little investment in the psi skills - you don't need to.  I would encourage you to figure out how to get hit less.  Once you're only slipping up and taking one or two hits of any significance in the larger combats, you may appreciate the bonus health, situationally, from things like the belt, or pig leather attire.  At the very least, belt, food, and two pig leather pieces made enough difference for my psi character that Silent Isle was non-threatening on Dominating. It was very threatening without all that bonus health, and the belt was more than any other part.

I was aware and use all the tactis and tips you mentioned sans flares. Also I did not say that rathounds are a problem, only that even against them the HP belt won't save you if you get attacked by more than one. And yes, CC and mobility is the key. Not the vigorous belt.

Silent Isle is not really threatening, just obnoxious because Broderick tends to draw attention from the PSI beetles and gets wasted which in turn leaves you stranded there, forcing a reload.

3 Con Psi builds should not bother with the HP belt though. Even with it many enemies can still one shot or "one round" you.  :(

The problem is that they are made obsolete with the bullet belt. Imho Styg should nerf the bullet belt and add some reload speed onto the magazine as well. Could call it "high tech magazine" or some such to explain why it is faster to reload with it.

General / Can I edit NPCs?

Because quite frankly I am tired of loosing Saban and Dave to Bladelings because they are terribly equipped AND act like complete morons. I want to change their ammunition to armor piercing and give Saban more grenades.

If I could I would also disable turret mode from the sentry because it primarly looses a turn only to change back the next one which make it loose out on a lot of damage.

I think Death Stalkers should be weaken a bit. As a CON 3, 0 dodge char I don't see any good option dealing w/ them without cheesing them with quick tinkering + bear traps. A single strike from a Death Stalkers and I'm already down to 20% health. Even with doctor's belt, irongut, antidote, adv health hypo it's very easy to be trap into an unwinnable situation. Caltrops, incendiary grenades, and flares helps but it requires foreknowledge so that's bad.

I don't know if I'm having really bad luck but I can't seem to locate a good quality plasma discharger (nothing higher than 11x), and good paddings (especially high-den, nothing higher than 10x) for leather armor. I unlocked every shop (except foundry secret shop) before DC and been doing numerous merchant runs. Are you guys having trouble locating high quality crafting components as well?

I think they should appear less often. Also their stealth detection is ridiculous they start hunting me as soon as I am anywhere close to them but I do not see them coming at all despite having 10 Perception, Paranoia and 63% stealth detection goggles.

So is it merely a difference in how many enemies there are in the game? Like, will I see the Death Stalker enemies on Normal, or just DOMINATING difficulty?

You will see the new creatures in all difficulties. On harder difficulties they appear earlier and are more numerous. The amount and type of enemies in combat encounters is probably the biggest difference between difficulties now, but on harder difficulties some old enemies also gain new traits.

Imho they should not come up too early. The new creatures can solo many characters. I would rather see them as pack leaders which give special benefits to the pack.

General / Re: How defense skills (Dodge and Evasion) work
« on: December 16, 2017, 12:09:23 pm »
I assure you it is not only possible but very rewarding. And playing like this, defensive skills like dodge and evasion can be very important. You seem to have difficulty in grasping this concept, and that is okay. Like I said, it is not for everyone.

I have played D2 harcore mode for 6 years single and multiplayer so please stop patronizing me.

The issue isn't permadeath no-save-at-all. The problem is with your setup you are either running around with the shield on all the time (not my style) and/or with no stealth at all. I'm pretty sure you are getting instant kill quite a bit by grenade/sniper aimed shot/xbow shock bolt. Sure you can just quickload or load up an autosave and stealth approach alpha strike out of them but this feel very cheaty to me.

After thinking about it, yes this is a viable approach but definitely not my style.

Why is it "cheaty"? Did the game or Styg ever claim you are not allowed to die once? I cannot understand this obsession over "no death". It is a game. Fail some win some and enjoy the show. Leave this "no fail" to real life where it happens plenty. Let us have some fun in a game.
Oh, no one is saying you can not play the way you like. It is just that people have different ways to enjoy the game, and when you say that evasion is useless, that is not correct for other people who like to play otherwise.

For me, it is about immersion.
I like to roleplay, and dying and reloading a lot, it ruins the sense of playing an actual guy who is trying to survive in a hostile underworld.

To have pre-knowledge of all encounters, to know what the enemies are going to do because I have already walked into their ambush and died, it changes the game from an immersive RPG, to a technical exercise, wich is a lot less fun and nerve-wrecking.

That is not the way I want to enjoy such a game, personally. I have acual fear when walking into a dangerous situation, and have to trust in my skills and equipment to not die. I love it. I also understand it is not for everyone.

With that mind set you cannot even restart a character because you know how everything will play out up to the point you failed. You cannot even have a second playthough.

Bugs / Re: XAL-001 and corrosive acid vials
« on: December 16, 2017, 06:33:25 am »
Fixed. The self attack is now a separate attack that does not inherit damage, crit and on hit effects of the original attack (against the enemy) and it should now work properly with all special attacks. Also it should no longer spawn extra acid.

Btw, in the next version, you will be able to unload chemical pistols.

It would be cool if you could fix its flaw via a short quest and a high enough skill in chemistry and/or mechanics.

Bugs / Re: [1.3.0.18] Lighters don't stack
« on: December 16, 2017, 05:32:03 am »
From what I can see they are reusable so it would make little sense to stack them. They are not very numerous either. The only items which are stackable are one time use items.

Well to me they are supplementary and have to be used alongside a shield and a decent leather/ballistic vest/riot armor and Uncanny Dodge and Evasive Manevuers to work well.

High Dodge+Uncanny Dodge+decent shield = untouchable for a round or two by melee.
High Evasion + Evasive Maneuvers + decent shield = almost untouchable by ranged.

Has anyone here who plays a stealth character on Dominating being able to handle the new Death Stalkers? They are the bane of my existence even at level 14.
