Bugs / Jerre Franz won't heal me
« on: January 24, 2016, 08:20:56 am »
Jerre Franz, in Institute of Tchort, won't heal me. Clicking on dialog option just ends the dialogue.

Not sure why it happens. Healing did work before from him.

General / Oculus looks awesome (no spoilers)
« on: January 18, 2016, 07:29:16 pm »
I must say it, this area looks beautiful.

While many of the other environments in this game look pretty plain, this area looks fantastic.

If it was animated better, it would even be on par to bigger projects, like Pillars of Eternity, for example.

Great work!

Anyone compiled list of items that can be only obtained by crafting?

Essentially, the items that will never be available as a loot.

General / Selling 10k crossbows
« on: January 17, 2016, 09:35:26 am »
I just got to uneasy situation that my character is owner of 3 crossbows, each worth 10,000 (or 333 stygs), and there is no merchant where I could pawn them to.

Following merchants will accept crossbows:
Lucas
Jack Quicksilver
Deacon
Dirty Tom

But all of them are very low on Stygian coins. Also, they rarely sell anything else my character would need.

Any suggestion?

Or should I just drop them to nearest junk pile, as useless items?  ;D

What bugs me regarding main quest and Foundry is that if you haven't done or botched Abram tasks in Junkyard, that there is no quest in the game that would give motive to the player character to visit the Foundry.

Doing all tasks for SGS leads player to Junkyard, Camp Hathor, and then Rail Crossing. Then, next clue is to go in Core City and after that to Tchort Institute, which leads to the end game section.

During this period, player will also get quests regarding Protectorate/Free Drones conflict, and if player does not botch Abram quest in Junkyard, he will meet Jack Quicksilver again in Core City.

Now, Jack gives the only quests in the game that could be the motive to visit the Foundry.

So, lets say that player did not resolve Abrams quest. Tracking main quest will lead him to the Institute, the end game content, without any quests motive to visit Foundry.

It is kinda weird that such major game section has no quest hooks exempt the optional one, that can be easily botched.

General / When merchants resupply their invetory...
« on: January 09, 2016, 04:45:16 pm »
Is the amount of money they have in inventory always the same, after they resupply?

For example, merchant A has 300 stygian coins, then player buys/sells some stuff.

When next time when merchant A resupplies, will his inventory have again get same 300 sygian coins, or there is some random factor involved?

Based on my limited testing, after resupply merchants always get same fixed amount of cash.

But it could be good if someone else can confirm this.

If it proves correct, I'm thinking about adding this info to the Underrail wiki. It should be useful when planning "trading" trips to sell some loot to know in advance the amount of cash you can earn from specific merchants.

There is following problem.
If night goggles are not already in the action bar, it is not possible to activate them in combat.

Only way to activate night goggles is from action bar, and dragging things to action bar does not work if already in combat.

This can be an issue for players that use multiple different goggles, and forget to bind all of them to the quickbar.

General / Metal Armor or anti-rifle vest?
« on: January 09, 2016, 01:38:14 am »
So, what is better for heavy armored build?

Anti-rifle vest or metal armor?

It seems that vests generally are superior against bullets and anti-rifle vests even more. Very effective against low caliber rifles.

While metal armors have good damage resistance over everything.

Also, auxiliary metal items like helmets and boots. Are they worth reduced movement?

General / Are gladiator fights supposed to be min-maxed?
« on: January 08, 2016, 09:33:44 pm »
Are gladiator fights supposed to be min-maxed?

Due to offense being so much superior to defense, in the game's rules:

1) Player needs to know everything about enemy in advance
2) Player needs to re-roll until winning initiative, otherwise he is roasted
3) Player needs to kill enemy as quickly as possible, otherwise it is roasted by powerful attacks or crowd control effects

For example, my fight with Pulverizer.
Only way to get him killed was to succeed getting initiative, doing Aimed Shot sniper attack, injuring him enough to get hypo and to not get in close enough in melee range. Then me throwing flashbang, getting into stealth and then doing "Snipe" attack from the stealth from far away.

.

Essentially, player weapon needs to be power of save and reload, for precongnition and to get most possible good outcome.

General / Core City faction war: intended or game glitch? (not spoiler)
« on: January 07, 2016, 02:43:59 pm »
Core City factions can get in war with each other.

I was doing some weapon testing and attacked praetorian solider. As response, they used the burst that killed one commoner. After that, all other combatants in the area where battling praetorians.

After battle settled, in any other area with praetorians, other factions where battling them in the real time (before I came closer to trigger turn based combat).

Is this behavior intended by the game design, or is the flaw of the AI?

Also does game dialogue react to this? Essentially, does dialogue with other factions in any way refer to the war in the streets that happened?

Bugs / Frame rate issues in Core City
« on: January 06, 2016, 08:17:12 am »
Yes, you heard it. Frame rate issues in 2D retro looking game.  ???

Since I'm using my laptop for playing games and this is 2D game, I left it to use integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600 (from my i7-4720HQ CPU). No need to stress dedicated GPU for 2D game. Right?

But there was some strange jerkiness in the Core City. Most noticable for me was the area around elevator right after train station you use to enter in the city.

Activating FRAPS confirmed my suspicions. Game was capped at 30fps (!!!). When going near edge of that map, it restores back to 60FPS.

It seems that vertical sync is turned on by default, with no in game option to change it. When on more GPU intensive maps it leads to frame rate switching between 60 and 30 fps, leading to jerkiness.

I assume vertical sync is enabled by default to probably to avoid rendering like 500FPS and stress more powerful GPU without reason and any benefit.

Still, it would be good to leave option to just cap framerate to 30/60/120/144fps, without use of vsync and have vsync as configurable option.

Also some optimizations in graphics code would not hurt.

Anyway, I worked around this by enabling my dedicated GTX 960M to run the game, but there are surely other players that play the game on old hardware or integrated graphics.

After all, it is a 2D game, and minimum GPU system requirement from the Steam page are:
Graphics: GPU that supports shader model 2.0

Which would imply that many cards much weaker then integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600 should be able to play the game.

Bugs / Gladiator allies turning hostile due to their own fault
« on: January 05, 2016, 10:27:54 pm »
The issue is this:
Player throws Molotov Coctail on the enemy group.
Later melee ally on its own goes into flame in order to target some of the enemies, gets burned and turns hostile to you.

This should not really happen. It was his fault for going into fire, not players.

General / Crowd control for non psion/crossbow users?
« on: January 05, 2016, 01:11:57 am »
What are the crowd control options for non-psionic non-crosbow users?

Obvious one is molotov cocktails and flashbang grenades. But after single use there is a cooldown.

Anything else for ranged fighters?

Bugs / (resolved) Port Zenith: can't find shield emitters
« on: January 04, 2016, 11:15:09 pm »
I'm unable to find shield emitters in Port Zenith base.
I got the master card and opened all 5 storage sections. Yet none of them includes the emitters.

What am I doing wrong?
