some of the dark ambient tracks Mark Morgan made for Fallout.
Now this has really got me intrigued! If I could vote for this suggestion, I would. OSTs are great for when I'm working, or reading material of a compatible genre. GOG has the released UnderRail OST as one of the "goodies" and if the alpha OST could be added alongside it, from the sound of things that would be amazing.

A DIY approach would just be for anyone who played the alpha to (temporarily) install the game from their old alpha installer, configure Sounds to zero and Music to full, and set Audacity recording the audio as they play through each musically distinct region. It'd be a labour of love akin to screenshotting every map and stitching them together.

Suggestions / Re: Ironman Mode/Achievement

I said reward those who master the game mechanics,
So far people have been discussing "Ironman" as if it meant "not dying". Is that what you meant? In the original post where you gave a name but no definition, it sounded to me as if your "Ironman" reward was awarded for exploration:
Underrail has one of the most comprehensive and well developed game mechanics of any RPG I've played. Reward those who take the time to fully master and explore it.

I haven't played Steam achievements.

Just for the sake of clarity, satisfying what criterion (or criteria) would award this "Ironman" status in UnderRail?

The GOG version should be 1.0.0.9. Are you sure you got the latest patch?
I was 80% through getting v1.0.0.7 when GOG Downloader stalled. I checked the site and they'd take it down and put up v1.0.0.8 instead. So I deleted the partial download and started again.

You're right that they have since provided v1.0.0.9 -- and thankfully a patch to it this time.

Btw, isn't it easier for you to just use GOG Galaxy, doesn't that download just the files that have changed?
Probably. I guess I'll try it out in a VM. I've just found such game managers to be counter-productive in the past:
I haven't tried GOG Galaxy, no. Steam / Origin's tray executables tended to make simple things complicated, slow boot time, hog resources, download updates for the client itself silently, wasting monthly data I couldn't spare, and generally be all pain and no gain. Maybe GOG Galaxy is better :-)
It certainly would be an attractive offering if it was able to automatically transfer just the delta for installed game(s), and if the quota overhead for maintaining the Galaxy client itself is reasonable.

These line of sight issues have been around since alpha.
IIRC, Blain cited line of sight issues as early as 1987.

General / Re: Best armor for PSI melee build? High movement
« on: January 21, 2016, 04:03:34 am »
It might help to give an indication of what stage in the game this is for. Is it to be your only armour set? At what level? With a specific map / terrain / enemy / mission in mind or in general? I'm using the Rathound King's Regalia at the moment with Tabi boots (at level 16) for the express purpose of exploring quickly (or just running across cleared maps to get somewhere), but I also carry 2 other sets (helm/chest/feet) for combat / resistances, and frequently upgrade them with scavenged loot.

It usually takes me 1-2 hours to write an email, and if I'm using some kind of webmail it's frustrating when that gets lost due to buggy back end, or poor hyperlink placement. So 30 minutes loss is a bit annoying. I use Form History Control as a result. Lazarus sounded good but I could never get it to function. If you use "Internet" explorer you might not have the same range of plug-ins.
Still, when I have made the mistake of writing melee or naive correctly and phpBB has discarded it, clicking the Back button has brought me back to the composition form with my submission intact. In any case, antisocial language isn't going to convince anyone.

is this ironc? fyi:
* i am not an natural english speaker, so i need some time to write a post in a foreign language
* i have used the back button of my browser but the input was lost
tenim@ - No this was not at all ironic, sarcastic, wry, satirical, etc. It was literal, exactly as it sounds. I:
  • commiserate with time lost due to unexpected software responses
  • encountered that even here on this forum when spelling words with "foreign" accents, for example: melee and naive
  • have found ways to mitigate such disappointment in the future
  • still don't think that frustration felt toward software is an excuse for using antisocial language to other humans
  • even when you can swear fluently in a foreign language

I have even used Cheat Engine in the past to scan my web browser's RAM to scavenge up the text of an email I was composing that had been lost to a web form. It's definitely a pain point I empathise with.

How old is that Hathor screenshot? That should've been fixed in 1.0.0.2. As for the Lost Vault key, that's been fixed in 1.0.0.8
You are awesome.

The Hathor screenshot was from v1.0.0.0. Last night I updated to v1.0.0.8 the moment GOG released it. GOG haven't been providing patchers capable of patching anything but one specific installed version, making redownloading the entire installer multiple times per monthly quota prohibitive for some of us. I've contacted them about cumulative patches but no progress yet.

I've revisted both locations now from appropriate save games and indeed, both lootables are now behaving themselves. Awesome!

General / Re: How to get unlimited feats and stats points
« on: January 21, 2016, 03:11:16 am »
this is a post for those who started the game without cheat engine and want to maximize their character without starting a new game.
I think you mean "thread", but be that as it may, I still don't believe Cheat Engine can deliver "unlimited feats and stats points".

Even if you can raise stats to 4294967295 (the limit of 4 byte integers) that's a limit. This thread was specifically about "unlimited feats and stats points".

There is another recent report of getting the game working on Linux here on UnderRail forum and with a more detailed post on the GOG forum (looks like the same author).

If we're expanding this thread to talk about doors as well, then the Foundry Town Hall took me some hours and several levels to locate. I went through all the shops, did as much of Evelyn as I could without dobbing her in to a cop (couldn't find any that would talk about it), looked through all the mines, zapped Nicolas, etc., broke into every house, argued with the Mysterious Man. Eventually, only with the aid of the wiki saying there even was a town hall with a chief I needed to find, and with the aid of the map screenshots on the wiki I realised that what looked like a grey "the end of the map" wall at the NW corner of the SW map actually had a grey door in it behind a foreground tower made of corrugated iron and girders. This lead to a narrow room (actually on the edge of the map) where all the action was. A bullet-proof glass panel, or an open door, or a bubble help when Tab is held would have helped a lot.

Similarly, Estelle's pharmacy has a nigh invisible door in the SW corner that blends in with the corrugated iron panelling around it and it's on a surface hidden by a corner of the building. I had no idea it was there and only traded with her through the wall, by entering the building through the forbidden door in the NE corner. At the top of the slums stairs there's a house with two pairs of boots beneath the "broken pixel" artwork and this house has an obscured door too. Not getting into Pointless House doesn't matter. Not getting into Estelle's pharmacy except via a forbidden door watched by a sniper is more confusing. Not getting into the hidden Town Hall is a quest blocker for numerous quests.

Maybe all transition zones (red), teleport zones (blue) and doors should have bubble help that appears when you hold Tab? Stairs Up already do, so why not transition zones too? Trapdoors already do, so why not real doors too?

Unable to active night goggle in combar if not already in quickbar
But I can not drag anything to the action bar, when in combat,
Maybe edit the thread's Topic to include the word "combat" to make that clear.

At the moment, the Topic says you already have the goggles in the "combar" but not in the "quickbar". This could be getting in the way of people understanding what you had meant to write.

I know you said "combat" in the body of the first post, but Styg's reference to the quickbar vs the action bar suggests to me your "combar" typo is misleading readers.

^^ hmm - cryptic!

Same for doctor feat. Power level increase is minimal with 25% better syringes, but being able to always use bandages is really useful and made me possible to save a lot healing items.
As well as saving healing items, you can save Cliff. Aww!

I'm a non stealth character, so I don't think I can steal them in front of those guys.
There is one poppy in the South West corner of the SGS hydroponics where the hover cursor is not red, so you can loot it safely. There are reports of this on the bug forum, if confirmation from a screenshot will check you're looking at the right one. If it's red in your playthrough, I guess it's been patched.

How to get unlimited feats and stats points
By "unlimited feats" do you mean "exactly as many feats as a level-capped character would normally get"?

That sounds like ISPs who grant "unlimited downloads*"
(* subject to a Fair Use Policy that throttles transfer rate after a certain point
* also subject to the limits of the data links they manage)

If so, then by that word usage, you will live for an unlimited* number of years
(* where "unlimited" means "an average human lifespan, give or take, subject to status, written details on request, your mileage may vary, not to be taken while pregnant, always read the label, not to be used while driving or operating machinery, by reading this sentence you have authorised the use of cookies to raid your fridge, terms and conditions can vary at any time without prior notice, click somewhere else to unsubscribe").

Many games can be manipulated like this. I would rather the game have a simple memory map while the programmers focus on a great game than that they obfuscate all variables (eg storing every number as *10+75 and retrieving every object property through a getter that does (-75)/10) and charge a higher entry fee to cover their costs.

I use Cheat Engine, but I use it for a different purpose. If I close a browser window or a word-processing document with unsaved changes, I use Cheat Engine to access the raw text that's still in memory before it gets reclaimed. Peek/poke is a useful strategy for all sorts of purposes - I've been using it since at least 96 and I am sure it predates that by a long shot.
