General / Re: I hate you all [major spoilers]

Regarding the discussion on psi-potential in humans:

I'm a bit confused here, so feel free to correct me if I post something factually incorrect, which I am certain I will at some point. We have humans, psi-beetles, psimorphs in the shape of rock larva and DC mushrooms, and of course we also have Tchort. I can't remember if the game reveals or hints at whether or not rock larva are in fact an extension of Tchort, or if they and similar psimorphs existed before it. In either case there seem to be two distinct types of psionic creatures in Underrail, those who are explained as being creatures that almost have psionics as some underlying life-force that shapes their very physical form (can't remember Ezra's exact dialogue atm) such as psimorphs and Tchort, and creatures who have psionic potential, but are otherwise just regular creatures (humans, Azuridae, probably some more I can't remember).

Are both types of psionic potential natural? Furthermore is psionic potential something that was always latent and uncovered, or is it new to humans and other creatures alltogether? The game pretty strongly suggests that the monoliths are responsible for it, whether by revealing it or creating it. 2001: A Space Oddyssey, anyone?

Unrelated question: Does anyone have or care to write up an overview of whom from Caerus residential we meet or hear about outside of DC? I seem to recall that someone suggested that Ezra was Anton Matveev, though I'm not sure why him in particular, after re-reading the logs.

before I discuss the entire understanding of my lore, can you tell me what you mean by "shadow people"?

It is how Tchort refers to Six/Rahm-Umbra/Tanner's people.

Tchort referred to Six specifically. You know, Rahm-Umbra. Shadow. He called the people "High Ones".

To think that I never bothered to look up "Rahm" and discover that it was a real word, knowing that Umbra is.
Turns out he's the high shadow!

Yes I did meet him. He only told me about the main quest, which I already had. He didn't say much else, other than the Faceless are good guys, and I'm destined to be the main quest guy, lol. What a surprise!
What a surprise indeed.  :D
Alright, let's keep it going in your exitus-2 thread. We're gonna walk you through this man, don't worry. You will survive.

I did try just using Exitus-1, the reagent. It said it injected it, but nothing else happened. I mean, if it was that easy why find 10 other reagents? I don't think I'm understanding you here.

Edit: I looked at the wiki and it said to do what I already tried: making a copy of Exitus-1 and injecting that. Again, no feedback from the combinator on if I did anything right. Do I need to put both the existing Exitus-1 AND my own Exitus-1? This is super confusing and non-intuitive. Is there any feedback if you get it right, or do you have to go confront the boss to see if it worked?

Alright, Imma assume you scanned Exitus-1, and could see what it was made of, is that correct?
Or are you past the gate? If so, try to create a compound from it, see what happens, work from there. I can give you more hints, but you gotta tell me where in the story you're at first, lest I spoil stuff.

Maybe you can't find Exitus-2.
Maybe you don't even have to synthesize Exitus-2.
Maybe you need to go beyond the big gate after you repair it, and see what happens if you try to use Exitus-1 there.

Just a though.  ;D

If you're cool with spoilers: Have you talked to Six? I had a bug on my first run where he didn't show up (reported and will be fixed for their next release). If you didn't meet Six at the very start of DC it can get a bit more confusing than it has to be, and it's already plenty confusing.

Let me know if you need more help. You can always check the wiki, but if you are afraid of spoilers, I could give a shot at giving you sufficiently semi-vague directions and answers  :D

General / Re: Beating Underrail without killing anybody?
« on: May 01, 2016, 05:00:08 pm »
No, that's impossible afaik. Not to mention ridiculously hard even if it was possible.

To elaborate, there is at least one instance where fighting appears to be the only option to progress. Probably more that I've forgotten about. You can get pretty far though, if you have the patience for messing up a lot and loading, but to the best of my knowledge you can't finish the game with that playstyle.

Discussions / Re: How did you find out about this game?

A friend was raving about Undertale. We were on skype talking and browsing Steam for games and while about to search it up in the search box, UnderRail also popped up.
We joked about it: "Heh, so you're not talking about the isometric cRPG known as UnderRAIL?" "Hey, actually that sounds pretty cool..."

A few screenshots later, and I was sold.

That's a shame. I was actually thinking about this a lot last night, as a distinct disadvantage of difficult or less straightforward games in this age is that they increase the risk of the player being exposed to spoilers.

There are bigger things to discover though, OP, so don't worry. For the most part people are very good at not spoiling other, far more interesting content which shall not be named here.

Fair enough, it didn't take as much time as I suspected. Finished the game now!  :D
Surprisingly easy boss fight I must say(especially after reading some horror stories about how he is hardly doable with some builds), I didn't even notice the mutagen tanks after killing him, and I guess you are supposed to destroy those or something? Long live psionics! Even with the 200 hp health regen per turn (guessing this would be disabled if you destroyed tanks), simple neural overload spam had him go down fairly fast due to mental subversion. Guessing my CAU armor also contributed nicely to letting me ignore the tentacles.

After playing through the end with its little plot reveal I really really really hope that Styg and the crew will make some more Underrail content, be it in the form of an expansion or a sequel or what have you. I also hope more people notice this game so there can be more lore discussions about it, I found some, but I need more! MORE!!!!

Good stuff!

Indeed!

So I have a completely different question now. About the mutagen puzzle. I think I understand what to do to get the right sequence, but am I supposed to manually write down the sequence of all the mutagen reagents when scanning them? I am at the mutagen combinator now, and while the contents of each mutagen reagent pops up when I select one for the sequence, it doesn't say which negative atoms it contains. Am I supposed to go back to hollow earth, scan every single reagent and type down their contents in notepad?

This seems like an overly daunting way to handle things, even by Underrail standards. Of course I can deduce which negative atoms the reagents contain through trial and error, but is this or scanning and writing it down necessary, or am I missing something?

Wow, sorry, I feel like a complete idiot now. The first try after making this post I beat IRIS.

Yet another fight won with force-wall scumming.  :D

I desperately require some advice on how to defeat IRIS. I can't repair the gate (wiki says you need 115 minimum mechanical skill, I have 50) so I need an AI core.
Playing full psi/melee character. Don't have enough strength to wear metal armor.

What do? The moment I start the fight four turrets pop up and drain half my energy shield in one salvo (1000 capacity shield for the record), the industrial bots get in my face and wreck my shit, and EMP grenades just don't do enough.

Am I fucked? I've been playing this game for so long now and I am so close to finishing it, but I can't seem to wrap my head around how I am supposed to beat these robots. Psionics seem to deal very little damage to them altogether, and I am Level 25 so I can't level up to increase my mechanical skill any more.

I appreciate any tips and strategies, hell I even appreciate tips that border on cheating. I just really want to be able to finish this game now.

Sincerely,
- Noob
