Bugs / Electrokinesis hits friendly targets
« on: May 15, 2016, 03:13:23 am »
In the bottom level of GMS, in the hostage area, I opened with Electrokinesis on the Raiders. I jumped right to Sully and friends, damaging them and turning them hostile. They were highlighted green at the time. I would attach a savegame, but you probably know by now that the saves are too large to do so on this forum.

General / 2nd playthrough psi build advice
« on: May 10, 2016, 10:17:38 pm »
What it says on the tin. My first playthrough was knife melee + throwing with moderate evasion+dodge, full lockpick/hack, and no stealth. Armor was typically light. I had all 5 crafting skills high at the end. This time, I would like to A.) be heavy on the PSI casting, B.) use 1 or ideally both speech skills, and C.) avoid replicating aspects of my previous build. So no melee, basically. A tough one, I think, so I'll stick to normal difficulty probably. The last playthrough was pretty easy except when I entered areas that far out-leveled me. Stealth is optional this time through. Now, I know Yell is awesome, but honestly if I have to choose between Persuasion and Intimidation I will go with the former for more speech opportunities...I want to see more of what the game offers another playstyle more than I want to be uber. So the more PSI skills the better, because finding new abilities or interaction opportunities is just cool.

General / I hate you all [major spoilers]
« on: May 03, 2016, 10:01:15 am »
Just finished the game. It's definitely in my top 10 ever. But...the ending! I gather there are many different paths than the one I took, but one thing drives me absolutely insane: the mystery. I never learned a damn thing. The whole game, I was waiting to find out what that cube was, who the "shadow people" were, what Rahm-Umbra and Tanner really were. And no, not one thing was explained. The Faceless wouldn't tell me, Rahm wouldn't tell me, Eidan wouldn't tell me, the GAME wouldn't tell me. Dafuq? I could swear I read someone saying they ending with the cube, and some kind of medallion? Two artifacts, that you can actually use? Well if so, I missed it all completely. If I can go back to an earlier save, and I have many, I think before I start another playthrough I really must know even a little about what this was all really about, if it is even possible.

That was a brutal, brutal cliffhanger. You better have the sequel ready next month.

General / Exitus-2 (spoilers)
« on: May 03, 2016, 12:56:00 am »
So I'd prefer to avoid the wiki as pages there tend to have additional spoilers for things I wasn't looking for, hence I ask here first: I read Dr. David Gerhoff's notes on deadly mutagens. He says he stashed both Exitus-1 and Exitus-2 somewhere. Well, I have found Exitus-1, and every other reagent listed in the Combinator. So my assumption is that since I already have Exitus-1, I need to synthesize Exitus-2. However, I have no atomic map for it. I cannot find such a thing, or the reagent itself, anywhere. Can you guys help me out with a hint here?

General / Quests and NPCs in DC (minor spoilers)
« on: May 02, 2016, 08:33:33 pm »
I'm pretty far into DC, close to the ending I think. But the transition from an NPC-rich environment, with lots of clues, to a huge deserted area where you are more or less entirely on your own was a bit jarring for me. It feels like another game in a way. I took a brief glance at the quest list for DC and there seems to be quite a few of them that I never discovered, such as capturing a latcher, but I hope they will present themselves in another playthrough.

Anyway, I'm friendly with both factions, and other than the old man, the only real quest I've been given was to rescue the Tchortist prisoners. I can't find a way to do that as my character has no stealth, other than to become hostile with the Faceless. I don't have any speech skills either, not that the Faceless seem to do much conversing with me. A concise lot, them. I generally avoid spoilers but I'll take one on this particular quest, in hopes that it will open up some new options, such as perhaps discovering what's behind that mysterious door in the Tchortist complex with the symbolic terminal.

Oh, and apparently there is just one chance to get the quest to clear the burrowers for the old guy? I saw it pop up in dialogue once, and chose another option, and can't seem to come back to it.

General / biological components in DC
« on: April 29, 2016, 10:06:14 pm »
Any way to obtain gizzard enzymes in DC? I am also looking for red dream mushrooms, but I assume there will be some in the fungus area, which I haven't explored yet.

General / Leo's knife
« on: April 28, 2016, 10:50:36 pm »
Is the wiki accurate, with what little info there is there? I feel like I've searched every corpse in DC but no luck. West of the entrance to the big city, is what it says. Is the big city the place with the big statue? Maybe someone could give me a map by map directions starting from the faceless base, the tchorist base, some easily findable landmark?

I just reached DC. I left most of my best mats behind thinking, for various reasons (such as the fishing quest, presence of multiple inactive elevators, etc), that I would be able to return without too much trouble.  In particular I saved my best Super Steel to infuse an Ancient Rathound skin. Well, it seems I might be stuck down there till the conclusion, and with no home workbenches, suddenly all those new and exotic mats down there are useless to me.

[minor spoiler ahead] The Faceless leader tells me an elevator leads to the surface and I need to power it via the old Power Station. That power station appears to be one giant puzzle, but OK. However, various hints, clues and a squinty peek at the wiki (trying to ONLY glean what I absolutely need spoilers-wise, no more, so please keep answers in that vein as well) I suspect that I might be finishing the game down here before I can return. Am I right? Or can I get back up to my house fairly quickly, then return to finish the game. If not, I'm reloading and pumping my crafting skills to the maximum even if I have to neglect everything else. I couldn't believe my luck when, just as I was complaining about mats quality, I got a 160 Super Steel! It's not doing me any good in a  closet though :(

General / Max quality on Aluminized cloth
« on: April 24, 2016, 06:24:54 pm »
After many many vendor restocks, it seems the max is around 90, contrasting with other cloth types that seem to cap at about 130. Am I on track or just a really, really long streak of bad RNG. I'm talking 20 refreshes or so, of every vendor in the game prior to DC, my level is 23.
The title said "HOW TO BEAT TCHORT??". Great, I was really engrossed in the storyline, wondering whether whatever this mysterious being is indeed benevolent, or how it factors into the later story, and some inconsiderate, unthinking mouth breather ruined the suspense, the immersion, the surprise, etc. I try to make it a point not to read forums, build guides and the like until well into the game so I can experience it once as a naive babe. That's how RPGs should be played, at least the first time. I digress. The sole point of this post is to shout my heartbreak to the universe. No responses are requested or needed, but feel free if your heart desires. From now on, I'll just have to avoid all game related media whatsoever, even if I am stuck on a quest.
General / Import feature
« on: April 22, 2016, 07:53:22 am »
This is probably a stupid question, so I'll try answering it myself. Is the export character function so you can start a new game with an endgame character? If I'm wrong please explain. If I'm right, wouldn't it be crazy overpowered even on hard mode? Or is there another mode unlocked? That would be heavan, but I wouldn't expect it because of the effort involved programming it in.

General / "dead spot" in leveling evade/dodge
« on: April 20, 2016, 08:15:04 pm »
I just dabble in Evasion and Dodge, dumping some points here and there. I just leveled, and both skills were in the high 80's. I noticed something strange: when the unmodified skill gets to 90, you can pump points into them but the modified score doesn't change till nearly 100. From 90 to 97, the modified score does not change. Why is that?

General / Regarding the Gauntlet
« on: April 19, 2016, 02:15:53 am »
How is time measured in the Gauntlet? I ask because in the final room, I am presented with a series of nearly linear doors, requiring keys from dropped mobs. There is essentially one path, straight through, with side doors that seem to serve no real purpose as they only delay the forward progression, although frequently the keys will not open these side doors anyway. So, I blasted straight through in a perfectly efficient manner. I don't think anyone could do it any faster: no regard for my health, just straight through, killing only enough mobs to get the key and move on to the next room. This is the final room, so the other runners are trying to beat me through it and throw the switch. Now, even if I cheat and know exact which remains to loot for the key, etc...I still always lose. In the final room I only have a single turn to get through, and there is a mob blocking my path, so even if I manage to kill it, get lucky and find the key, and move to the last door, before I can touch it I get zapped.

So my question is: did I take too long in previous rooms? Is that why this is an impossible task at this point?

Bugs / The Glitchlet
« on: April 19, 2016, 12:37:59 am »
I have tons of targetting problems in the Gauntlet. As an example, in the burrower section, I have repeated problems being able to attack them. Standing right next to them, no obstacles, AP to spare. Just simply cannot attack them. It's possible there is something I'm overlooking, but I can't think what it might be. Latest version as of today.

General / Ghostface Killer
« on: April 18, 2016, 01:55:40 am »
For the fishing challenge I only have Ghostface left. Everything else has been plentiful but this fish is nonexistent. Since I'm not to DC yet, the best bet according to the wiki is Core City sewers. Well, I spent hours there and while I got plenty of useful Squid, no Ghostface. My dex is 10, but I still miss a fair number of catches. I am not sure if the rarer fish require a higher dex or if it's just pure RNG, but in any case, let me know if I just need higher Dex, a better spot, or will have to wait till DC.
