The uniques should be useful if you choose to skip most of the tech skills. I can see using the K&H MP6 submachine gun for example, and skip high INT and gun crafting.

Currently playing a heavy gunner, and it is not the cakewalk everybody says.  That's mainly due to a) death stalkers and b) huge groups of strong enemies, where you need CC more than single-target damage (bursts aren't CC enough here).  I have max damage threshold and I still get hit by death stalkers every time and even burrowers sometimes.  Heavy armor sure helps, but it's not the "walk into a hail of gunfire and slowly beat people to death while humming to yourself" experience it used to be.
Do you mind sharing your general build?
Looking at playing the same kind of character, heavy gunner, myself. Always nice to have some inspiration.

Quick Pockets seems like something of a "Oh crap!" feat, for when you are taken by surprise or screw up your planning. So you can change to another weapon and still fire it, or take out some EMP grenades and throw one. Probably good if you use various utilities, like to be prepared for everything and dislike reloading.

Bugs / NPC action priority error

Latest experimental version, hard difficulty, oddity, no mods or stuff like that.

Outside GMS compound, early on, I went there to do the GMS quest. I led the large rathound pack over to the SGS guard, to get some help in dispatching the rathounds.

We fought the rathounds, him using his SMG.

In one round, he fired his last shot from the SMG, with a couple of rathounds next by. But rather than reloading the SMG, he kept on firing single shots, while out of ammo. Like this:

Guard fires shot: *14 damage*
Guard fires shot: *out of ammo*
Guard fires shot: *out of ammo*
Guard fires shot: *out of ammo*
Guard fires shot: *out of ammo*
Guard fires shot: *out of ammo*

He clearly had ammo, as he reloaded next turn.
But he wasted an entire turn firing from an empty magazine.
I think that is a bug.

General / Re: How defense skills (Dodge and Evasion) work
« on: December 28, 2017, 09:21:42 am »
Earlier, I have asked about how Evasion works for evading AoE attacks, sadly it seems this is unknown. So, I will post my own hypothesis, of wich the base data is extremely limited: someone lobbed a grenade at me. I evaded 2 or 3 points of damage from each shrapnel, and also 2 or 3  points from the main blast. Evasion was like 40 or something, dont remember right now.

I will throw some grenades at myself to test more, but my working idea is that Evasion subtract a fixed number from AoE attacks, just like armor threshold. (I may be wrong, it was late and I was hiding from my mother-in-law, so memory is fuzzy.)

As for Cliff, I've made it so he won't start bleeding after you cure Jenny. That'd be a tad too easy way out of his new predicament. :D
Poor guy!

The Cliff thing is maybe not a bug, at least it was the case before this version:
I stealthed into the infested compound without ever talking to Cliff, to see what happened. When Jenny and I returned outside, Cliff was there of course as we had never started talking. He has a timed bleed that cant be stopped so bye-bye Cliff.

I assure you it is not only possible but very rewarding. And playing like this, defensive skills like dodge and evasion can be very important. You seem to have difficulty in grasping this concept, and that is okay. Like I said, it is not for everyone.

I have played D2 harcore mode for 6 years single and multiplayer so please stop patronizing me.
Sorry about that, it was not my intention. Seems I either have a problem communucating what I think, or my way of playing is very alien.

The issue isn't permadeath no-save-at-all. The problem is with your setup you are either running around with the shield on all the time (not my style) and/or with no stealth at all. I'm pretty sure you are getting instant kill quite a bit by grenade/sniper aimed shot/xbow shock bolt. Sure you can just quickload or load up an autosave and stealth approach alpha strike out of them but this feel very cheaty to me.

After thinking about it, yes this is a viable approach but definitely not my style.

Why is it "cheaty"? Did the game or Styg ever claim you are not allowed to die once? I cannot understand this obsession over "no death". It is a game. Fail some win some and enjoy the show. Leave this "no fail" to real life where it happens plenty. Let us have some fun in a game.
Oh, no one is saying you can not play the way you like. It is just that people have different ways to enjoy the game, and when you say that evasion is useless, that is not correct for other people who like to play otherwise.

For me, it is about immersion.
I like to roleplay, and dying and reloading a lot, it ruins the sense of playing an actual guy who is trying to survive in a hostile underworld.

To have pre-knowledge of all encounters, to know what the enemies are going to do because I have already walked into their ambush and died, it changes the game from an immersive RPG, to a technical exercise, wich is a lot less fun and nerve-wrecking.

That is not the way I want to enjoy such a game, personally. I have acual fear when walking into a dangerous situation, and have to trust in my skills and equipment to not die. I love it. I also understand it is not for everyone.

Bugs / [1.3.0.18] Lighters don't stack
« on: December 15, 2017, 08:38:48 pm »
As title says lighters don't stack. They seem to be identical and takes up inventory space, so they probably should do that.

Who needs evasion with a 2000ish high impact speed energy shield ?
The guy with 3 CON who steps on a mine? Or lose any initiative roll against ranged/grenades?

But how much do Evasion help aganst AoE attacks??

Probably something like a %resist per skillpoint, but how much, and does it stack with stuff like blast cloth?

Mechanics
  • On hard difficulty EMP will drain energy (and subsequently deal damage to the holder) from all items in the inventory (not just equipped ones)
This took me by surprise. Quite fun.

Quests/Maps
  • Reworked a lot of encounters to scale with game difficulty (from easy to dominating). Normal was mostly kept as it is, but some encounters (typically mid-late and late game ones) were made more difficult on that level.
I usually play on Normal and are now trying Hard. Very fun with scaled encounters! Have to play with renewed alertness after being used to Normal.

Love the patch. Good to see the game isn't finished yet.

So how exactly are you supposed to get the key card for the inner gate of Depot A which is behind the two now plasma turrets? You cannot out range them. They have huge amounts of HP. They can one shot you. There is no console which can disable them.

Did you screw stealthers over on purpose?
Is there no terminal in the first observation room to hack to lvl3 on DOMINATING? (60 base skill)
