General / Re: Beginner, looking for a Psi/Sniper Build
« on: July 23, 2018, 03:51:08 am »
Honestly, pretty much any build is fine as a newbie unless you're on dominating.  Your build is okay.  What you need is maybe some mutated dog armor (you can find some, buy some, or make some) and traps.  Buy like 40 bear traps, place them intelligently via stealth, then initiate combat.  Use crowd control on groups and your rifle on stragglers (but start out with an aimed shot).  The game likes to throw big groups at you sometimes; you need a way to fight on your terms (force field is great for this, I've heard).  Basically get used to using bear traps; pretty much every build wants them.

Not an option for my PSI Sniper. While Thought Control is excellent at killing silently sniper rifles are quite the opposite.

But you are a sniper, so that means you have good stealth, right?  Could you, with your best stealth gear + cave hopper steak + cloaking device, make your way past the guards on the first level without fighting?  The guy with the riot armor next to the stairs probably does need to go, but he's through the double doors before the stairs, you should be able to close them and kill him quietly.  On the 2nd level you can kill people 1 or 2 at a time, at least until you can get to all the pillars.  Shoot or emp grenade the cameras and have a fall back hidey hole.

Builds / Re: builds not viable for DOMINATING

You get a bunch of ammo from the faceless if you were nice, and there's literally thousands in the warehouse.  Leo sells some, and I think the tchortists do too, and surely money isn't a problem?

Has anyone here being able to do the Epione Lab mission for the Free Drones by sneaking through?

You mean without killing anybody?

No, just without alerting anyone.

Well, I don't think the guards on the first floor ever trigger an alarm, and I did the second level with no alarm.  I've done it with a sledge juggernaut (using stealth gear in a few places) and a sneaky crossbow traps-user.  Neither of those characters has loud attacks except for the juggernaut's grenades, which I probably didn't use.

I sometimes get "remains" when I kill death stalkers too.  I thought it might have had to do with how they died, like if they were burned to death or something.

Has anyone ever encountered it on any map besides Depot A North?

Does anyone have a good idea for what triggers it?  I found it on my first character after moving back through the map on my way out after talking to wyatt; I had already cleared the map and it was by itself.  I didn't know it was a special encounter.  Now, I'm playing a new character and I've cleared this map a dozen times and still haven't seen it.

General / Re: Praetorians suddenly attacking me for no reason.

I can't tell you why it happened, but just be ready for combat in core city.  It's just the one faction; JKK and coretech won't bother you, and the praetorians you fight will never respawn.  If it's too hard, do everything besides core city that you can first.

Bugs / Endless turns when assaulting fort apogee
« on: July 04, 2018, 10:00:07 pm »
When I exit the tunnel from the train to the fort, where you can move up to talk to the guard next to the plasma turrets; I enter combat and move into the blue squares which brings me up to the platform.  I do my turn, then with remaining movement go back into the tunnel.  This refills my AP/MP (but does not advance turns; enemies dont act, cooldowns dont cooldown).  I go back up to the platform, same thing.  I can do this repeatedly to shoot everything dead.

While I'm at it, does anybody have a clear picture of what happens in core city with the damn oligarchy warehouse missions?  I know Ola from JKK has some role in it.

I did the JKK questline yesterday, and while chasing down Cornell, I passed by a smoking corpse in the sewers.  It was the guy from the coretech questline who you chase down in drop zone, the one who stole the ICDP or whatever it's called (he says Ola hired him if you question him right).

Weird, I just read through this thread today after getting linked to it in a different thread.

Anyway, I recently saw a conversation somewhere else where someone posted a screenshot of captain coltrane telling the player a story of how a metal man appeared in a flash of blue and... I dont remember, kidnapped?  a pregnant woman on board.  Something like that.

Then there is captain rasko (sp?) at the docks in core city who asks a female player if they are the woman who gave birth in his boat a couple months ago, then realizes his mistake.  Odd coincidence.

Personally, I think Tanner is using Thought Control on you to get you to do all these hellish tasks for basically no reason.  Put these all together and you get a crackpot theory where tanner kidnaps a pregnant woman from a boat and turns the fetus into the perfect mind-controlled agent to ....what?  Did he even know the cube wasn't going to get back to him before you were admitted to the station?  I don't know, but you're from nowhere and don't know anything at the start of the game, and you're capable of getting stronger than anybody but the godmen in a very short period of time, and can handle entire bases full of competent soldiers and shit.

Also, keep in mind that tchort says it has eaten a godman before, and three came to earth.

That's why I was talking about a punching bag.  They're not trying to dodge you, but it's still easy to miss one when you're going full ham.

being unable to miss a taser

That bugs me too.

Happened to me too, but I didn't think it was a bug.

General / Rail crossing Missing Train (Spoilers)

The wiki says this:

"It is also possible to persuade (70 effective skill required) the bandits to leave the train. This leads to opportunities to join either Protectorate or Free Drones, depending on what you do with the knowledge of the train's location."

I just tried this out, intending to join the free drones.  I persuade the drones to leave the train, then head to the core city metro to see if the drones chick is there; she's not.  I go to herve and all I can say is that I found the train.  I don't think it's true that you can join the free drones if you persuade the bandits to leave.  If I'm wrong, does anybody know what I'm supposed to do?
