General / Re: Can't figure out what to do next / Am I underleveled?

Start with this: http://underrail.info.tm/build/?AQMDAwYDCggAAAAAAAAADw8AAA8AAAAADw8PDwAPUDY    You can see you have four stat points left to play with.  Me, I'd put two in INT, two in PER.  But you do what you like.
End with this: http://underrail.info.tm/build/?GQMDAwYDEAgAAAAAAAAAW1cAAFVaFj9VS8KHwocuAEhQNis_FCouZD0h    If you did go with 10 INT instead of 8, you can pull a few points out of Merc, Mech, Elec, and Tailor and still hit those thresholds.  You've got stats, skills, and quite a few feats left free in this build.  Spend 'em as you think you'd like, but don't go into Dodge or Evasion.  Psi doesn't need them, and needs those points for other things.

Good build and advice there in general, although I prefer Psychosis to Tranquility myself. Two things I don't agree with (or understand):

1) Snooping and the recommendation to put two ability points into PE. I 'd put those 2 points in CON, and Snooping feels like a waste of a feat spot to me, unless there is a very good argument for it that I am missing.

2) Why is CHEM at 35? About 10-12 is enough for biohazard vests and about 20 lets you make decent infused mutated dog tabi boots, should you wish. Also do you really need Mercantile so high for a psi build (the cheapest build in the game)? I 'd probably lower CHEM & MERC and try to invest in Stealth instead (or increase Thought Control, not sure what works effectively and what doesn't at 75).

Other than that, pretty good build.

Bugs / [1.0.4.17] Game crash when going down the hole in West Wing
« on: April 10, 2019, 08:02:08 am »
There is a hole in the ground in the West Wing of the Institute of Tchort, in the room when you first meet Six. The hole leads to an empty Upper Underrail warehouse, and the game gives you the option to jump through it via a dialogue screen.

When I pick the option to jump through the hole, the game shows briefly my body lying on the warehouse floor, and then crashes to Desktop. I tried this twice, and the crash happened both times.

I had already experienced everything up to like four quests before where I am currently on this playthrough. My very first playthrough of this game, which was also on DOMINATING, I had made it as far as saving Buzzer and then I gave up on that build cause it felt really tedious/boring and all around ineffective. This is my second attempt at completing the game on DOMINATING and I've made it too far to want to start over on another difficulty. I feel like if I've made it this far, it's still possible for me to beat the game.

Dominating difficulty is only there so that the hardcore veterans of the game have another challenge to face. At this stage, you 'll get much more enjoyment from the game if you play it on Hard (and as a matter of fact, I usually recommend Normal until someone has finished it at least once). There are also veterans who still play it on Normal, it's no shame. It is not an easy game.

You are still in early mid-game, and there are several spots where the game difficulty spikes up before the end. The end itself is long and exceptionally challenging. I do highly recommend that you take one step back and try stuff on Hard. But hey, up to you.

I second the opinion that you shouldn't be playing on Dominating if this is your first or an early playthrough. Finish the game on easier difficulties, then you can start considering Dominating.

Suggestions / Re: Suggestions of random encounters and status effects
« on: April 09, 2019, 01:43:44 am »
I am 100% against more combat random events. As a matter of fact, I think that most of the existing combat-oriented ones have to go. The speed of moving around in UR is already a hotly debated topic (with people complaining about it or using speedhack), and random events make it much-much worse than it already was. Having to move around with your guard up *in already cleared locations* is just too much, afaic.

To make matters worse, doing rounds of shopping, another hotly debated topic, is also made much worse with random events. In particular, visiting Blaine, Rail Crossing or Dirty Tom becomes orders of magnitude slower because of random events. I have to take off my rathound regalia, put on a tactical vest, and enter stealth in order to visit these merchants. What was already tedious becomes totally misguided, imo. It is not like UR doesn't have enough combat already.

As a matter of fact, if there is ONE good thing about the shopping rounds, it's that they allow the player to forget about combat stress for a while. This becomes obvious in DC where there are no shopping rounds, and the constant combat stress becomes too much for a lot of players. To some extend, combat random events introduce this DC problem in the pre-DC gameplay.

That said, I have nothing against non-combat random events. I like them. The wounded man, the couch, the mute fisherman, the dead trapper are all fine. I also welcome the random events that are strongly connected to story events, like patrols clashing, the free mutants or Daniel Arda coming after you. But rogue robots, just another lunatic/ironhead group and the like? Those add nothing and make the game actively worse, for the reasons explained above.

My 2c.

2. You already said that you are not replaying it, but you did not have to attack the Free Drones in order to join the Protectorate. You could have gone back to Captain Herve, and he would have given you another option to solve the quest in the Protectorate's favor. A much easier option.

If you had joined the Protectorate, you would have gotten to pilot a dreadnought. Though briefly. Not sure how much you would have enjoyed it though, if you had no Guns or Melee expertise.

Later, the Protectorate final mission is glorious. In all respects. Not all people like it though, so YMMV. For me, it was one of the strongest moments in the game.

Discussions / Re: Drones or Cans?

The protectorate vs free drones dilemma and questlines are some of the best moments in the game. I was really impressed. The game shows the good and the bad for both. It is very balanced (and, dare I say, realistic). At no point did I think that I am being preached to by the developers. What a breath of fresh air.

(I am somewhere in the middle myself. Have tried both questlines. Usually, but not always, join the Protectorate. I would probably switch sides once the Protectorate is better established, to restore some balance.)

Same behavior when entering the 2nd floor of the house. Took me longer to see this, as I don't go to the 2nd floor as much.

Same behavior when entering the underpass at University train station.

Yes, you are right. I was momentarily confused.

(gave a generic title, just in case I run into more)

Kynurenic acid: Listed as requiring 100 in Biology, but I was just able to craft it while having 70.

Suggestions / Bright yellow fishing rods
« on: March 24, 2019, 04:42:22 am »
Sounds like a silly wish, but it would really help me if fishing rods were a bright color, bright yellow for example. Fishing is done in the caves, and it is relatively dark. I have to focus on the screen intensely in order to notice when the rod is moving. A brighter color for the rods would make it easier to notice movement, leading to a more relaxed fishing experience. Like it should be.

(Now I am going back to my quest of finding nidamental gel demon squids.)

In the first arena fight (against the rathounds), one of my teammates was a pistolero. At some point during the fight, his gun emptied but he kept trying to shoot it ~5 times while empty. Eventually he quit trying, moved, and ended his turn.

43
When I go down the basement of my house in Core City, sometimes the yellow-green combat movement line appears. It is the yellow-green line that shows where I can move while in combat. However, I am not in combat and I am still in "real time" exploration state. The line disappears when I move anywhere without further complications.

This does not always happen. But it has already happened twice, so I thought I should report it.

General / Re: Help me appreciate chemical pistols
« on: March 20, 2019, 03:18:43 am »
Oh, I think I see the chemical weapons' appeal more clearly now, Average Gortsby.

Quidam Craft, yes, combining pyro pistol with pyro grenades seems like a good plan. I have also been considering combining the other two chem pistols with gas grenades. Maybe throw a gas grenade and then invite the enemies to pass through it, while I am shooting them with the corresponding pistol. Could be a good plan against multiple enemies, but I have yet to try it.

In other news, I have been using the pyro gun and it is indeed very good against the right enemies. Destroys psi beetles and humans without heat protection. Much better than I thought it would be!

1) Take a sniper rifle.
2) Visit your friend.
