General / Re: Core City before or after Foundry?
« on: February 18, 2019, 08:09:21 pm »
If you are playing with oddity system, Foundry is just a huge loot pinata with 2-3 levels worth of oddities with little to no risk.
So I don't see a reason NOT to go and at least grab the oddities.

Honestly, not sure what your question is, exactly.

There are energy shields.
They are just that: energy shields. EMP damage aside, they are extra protections at no penalty, so they are pretty much ALWAYS worth it.

For details, read, say, here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=843557165

I guess I can give you my build (stealth TQ psion), if you are interested in that.

169
But would it really be all that much work to add

Yes.  The answer to that question is always yes. "Just add a toggle" is one of the best ways to start a fight with a programmer.
As part of my job, I write software for hardware integration (LabView) and data analysis (Matlab, Python, etc), and every so often I'm asked to "just add a toggle'. Depending on the code structure, pretty often it is, in fact, easy. Granted, I haven't seen UnderRail source code, but my default assumption (from seeing source codes of other open-code turn-based games) would be that there is a fair chance it's not that complicated of a change.

Hostility triggering is rather harsh and if I was implementing it now I would do things differently, but at this point it would just be way too much work, so it is what it is.
But would it really be all that much work to add a cool-down that would revert aggression after X minutes for "minor" crimes?
Maybe as part of expedition release?

171
I never went the "truce" path with rathound King so i'll just ask a question :

Have both parties agreed on free movement on their respective territories, or is it only a non agression pact with no trespassing allowed ?
It's a non-aggression pact, mostly.
However, the PLAYER getting attacked for just approaching Camp Hathor with regalia equipped still brings the same issue:
- if player is simply mistaken for Rathound King and attacked by a trigger-happy guard, then the hostilities should end once the player clearly shows he/she is NOT the Rathound King.
- if the locals are aware of the fact player is NOT the Rathound King, why exactly do they keep attacking? Wearing an attire similar to that of a guy you have a non-aggression pact with is hardly a crime in and of itself.

172
Perhaps they don't mistake you for the King, but rather assume that you're allied with him (why else would you be wearing that nonsense?) and put wanted posters up all over town with your mug on it.  Then, they know what you look like and remember your face.
Rathound King at that point has a truce with Camp Hathor, so officially declaring someone an enemy for being an ally of the guy you have peace truce with.... make even less sense.

173
I understand the intent here (guard mistaking you for the rathound king and attacking), but the fact that they REMAIN PERMANENTLY hostile even if you quietly disengage (without harming anyone) and come back later via a boat (without the regalia) just feels like an oversight.

It appears Master Exploder is indeed wearing his own custom nodrop blast suit. He just carries a normal one around in his pockets. :D More sneaky arena armor shenanigans...
The problem is, in a game with pretty well-establish game-mechanic (UnderRail is one of them), those shenanigans are really NOT that sneaky.
It's blatantly obvious Master Exploder is simply ignoring stat penalties from his suit. And it really rubs me, as a player, the wrong way when I need build up an initiative of X points by using consumables, feats and equipment (all with their own trade-offs), and then an NPC gets his initiative score because he can simply ignore the rules.
It really feels like it would be better to give Master Explode an actual Blast Suit with actual penalties, and then maybe give him an explicit effect of consumable (i.e. root soda for initiative) to offset those.

175
Soo, speaking of the latest experimental.
Not sure if it should be classified as a bug, but:
Master Exploder is now wearing a blast suit. It's not only obvious from the model, but you can also loot it from him.
That's all nice and all, however, based of his initiative, he is NOT, in fact, wearing a blast suit.
Well, it's either that, or he has some absolutely insane stat values in agility and dexterity. Because otherwise there is no chance in hell he should have 22 initiative while wearing a blast suit that gives -6 to both agility and dexterity.

Eh, maybe I am, but it's really hard for me to find the perfect balance for time spend managing inventory.

Anyway, had some extra fun tonight with Balor and TC abilities:

Dude your itemisation and inventory is полный пиздец really.
Pain to watch it. Tonns of junk, unsold loot...  :-[
Sorting the loot and going around selling it would take a pretty long time. Time that isn't very fun for me as a player and even less fun to watch.
So, basically, poor inventory management is the lesser of two evils for me.

178
Yea, I guess grabbing the extra oddities in the junkyard is not a bad idea at all, thanks for the tip.

I also think it's probably a good idea to use 15 point on biology to get effectively infinite supply of adrenaline.

Aslo, time for another attempt. Starting in a few minutes.

179
You solved a problem with outpostsandsaved game, and next video you started anew - why?
I just feel like doing 3-4 restarts to see how the very early game (until GMS or so) handles in this experimental, and what can be further optimized.
The reason I'm so interested in early game is that it's the most RNG-dependent part and you also don't have the money to purchase all the necessary equipment.
I mean, so far I've established a way to get to lvl 5 before Newton warehouse with 0 reliance on oddities from critters, or to get the "knife" quest done at lvl 4 with little to no risk, thus getting a chance to buy good psionic headband, etc.

Well, time for another attempt. Starting in a few minutes.
