Play a year, then Jeff will start his turn... and then it's at least mine and wallace moment. And then once again xmorg... until death takes us all! For Armok!

Well if Jeff won't tell us he is alive until Friday then I guess the game goes on... So xmorg, please choose suitable location for a fort, in case Jeff is DEAD.

As you remember it should be in the badlands - the metals would be nice and aquifier would be not. Cheers!

@pringdrew - Hell, I know what you mean :D. But it gets fun after few dozens of destroyed forts... or few hundreds. Also video tutorials on YT help a lot - even if the best ones are pretty obsolete now.

@Jeff - Okay, we can throw that 'only above stuff' out, but I would still like to see whole outer map filled with buildings and traps :D. Or better encrusted traps.

@all - Yeah, theoretically tilesets nor DF Hack shouldn't touch the save file. And if it does just convert it back in Lazy Newb Pack save converter and hope for the best...

Well... we're playing without mods - that is why I suggested fresh download from the DF site and I see Jeff is also using Phoebious tile set. But since there is an option in Lazy Newb Pack to convert the save (or 'update' as it is called) then it's not a problem. Just when it's your turn go copy save folder to DF directory, then go to Lazy Newb Pack starting menu, 'graphic' and 'ASCII default'. 'Install graphic' then 'update savegames' and voila - done. Next person needs just to reverse the process - changin ASCII to whatever tileset he needs ;).

So it's okay to play more hardcore (ASCII) or more leasurely (tiles) :D.

Bad stuff happens, sadly. Well at least I can tell that the game will be... interesting. And blue screen of death sure is irritating ;).

At least if the first one mines towards magma then the rest can do fun stuff with it... like lava moat... or deathtrap :D

@wallace - yeah it's okay - like I wrote before, we're starting, but people can still join :). So we can go like that:

Jeff
xmorg
maheusz
wallace

or, if you're the hasty type I can let you before me ;P. Ah, and remember to read rules in earlier post.

@Jeff - do you have a problem with a image to show on the forum? Or is it something else? You can do it my way - put it on the imageshack.us or some other picture site and then just get a link here ;). It works too. And I'm dreadfully impatient to see what hellish place did you choose :D

Okay, since there are three guys already we can start. Maybe more people will join. For now the list goes:

Jeff
xmorg
maheusz

Each turn is one year. The world is: rare metal, very high savagery, large and other settings: medium.

Goal: To build a fort above the ground (outposts, mining and magma smelting below the ground allowed) and make it large enough to take most of starting 3x3 map. Also please write about everything you think was important or just hilarious. Screenshots showing the best stuff would be appreciated - also the ending one would be great.

Also one year is one turn, so when we're starting during spring and we end when 'spring arrives'. Even if in the middle of goblin siege.

To avoid save file problems please download Lazy Newb Pack with Phoebious tileset here:

http://dffd.wimbli.com/download.php?id=2801&f=LazyNewbPack+%5B0.34.11%5D+%5BV15%5D.zip

and copy the world/save folder there. Clean install should let us avoid the worst stuff.

World save file is here:

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?a1l99wic3jhxbs0

So... we're waiting for your choice Jeff... and BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

edit: Ah, also to avoid the lag problems please designate trash storage area (further on the line we can upgrade it to magma trash storage :D).

Okay, then I'll put my region file on mediafire when we'll be ready and leave the fort location to you :). I already found one interesting, as shown on the second screenshoot, but the decision lies on your side.

Hmmm... I wonder about that... the above ground fort sound fun. Especially in savage lands. Of course some things like magma forges, farms and few underground outposts need to be down there... but the rest of the infrastructure - why not?

Maybe also get a goal to build a fort spanning all starting 3x3 map. So we need to build watch towers, aqueduct and other stuff. And call it adequately in screenshots! It would get very interesting... and so much stone would be needed ;D. Other ideas?

edit: mistakes

Okay, so for now I've created the world. The settings are as follows:

Also, after generation I ended with Age of Myth and this kind of continent.

Anybody wants to start, or should I begin the one year cadency?

More like glass doors to glass graveyard with glass coffins, defended by glass traps... it's more like DF :D.

After I'll come back from work I'll start generating another world with 'little metal', 'very savage' and 'large'. Then I'll search for suitable spot in badlands... and play for a year. Gonna put the save here with the screenshot of my fort and introduction to what I have done.

Sounds about right.

Yup, voted too.

And on the Dear Esther... I guess we could say it *is* playing a role, right? You wander around the island, creating your own story from the pieces thrown before you. In a way it's what makes and RPG.

Also it's not like there is a category where it fits. Maybe if there was one called 'Dear Esther games'.

Well there sure seem to be some measures in place considering a week or two ago we were nearly spammed to death. And now, as you both can see, it's not being done at all.

But yeah, I saw that most of 'people online' are bots. Shame, but maybe it'll bring more hits and go up on google search or something. Every bit helps!

I tend to play on Yogstation ss13 server from time to time, but yeah... how did you survive the sing? Just...

I usually play engineer and steal the RiG. Set up the sing and solars and then go on the adventure around the station... I remember that one time there was meteorite alarm from security. So I loitered next to their doors... but nobody was letting me in - neither HoS nor AI. So what did I do? I went outside and walked along the wall to find it externally... Oh the reaction of the guys inside :D. Hilarious!

Robotist is also neat because he gets the flash + which means stopping the borgs right away. And when AI is rogue these babies are the first thing you want to grab. And of course mech building. Everybody loves Ripley, right?

SS13 has these situations where people just doing mad stuff for no reason. And somehow it even works. From time to time.

Yup, it's this game alright! The time devouring game...

I only saw the genesis mod by Deon on Blackworth videos, so I don't really know what it changes (and knowing him it'll change a lot). But it is a nice notion. But then again the learingin curve of a mod... ha.

I've already started a fort to check the conditions - savage world, little metal and fortress in the badlands. I found location with few types of metal (yup, these places do exist still) and began to dig. In year 5 I have like 180~ dwarves, about 20-30 graves (not much, right?), fully working fort. The metals are: galena (silver) and tetrahedryte (or sth like that - copper anyway). It's badlands so I can get a lot of food from herbalists and hunters, but not much wood. I already dug low enough to get magma, so it's not really  the problem - and because I have sand... glass traps for everybody! And glass cages. And glass coffins.

So it's possible. And if we're going to start the fort under Deon mod, then I'll need some time get it working and understand what is all about :).

Well, I wonder does somebody play this hilarious game? For those of you who are either too lazy to google it or just interested enough to read I'll throw in a short introduction.

Space Station 13 is a free game made on BYOND engine where people use their own servers and make own games - which means different layouts of stations are used, different sprites and different rules (some servers endorse roleplaying, other are mostly special game modes, events etc.). It focuses on players being spawned on the station in different roles. There is Captain; Heads of Staff - security, medical, personel, research; Engineers; Scientists and even Janitors, Mimes, Clowns, Chaplains and Librarians. So - for everybody something interesting. Every job has it's role - be it simple entertainment, providing sustenance for the station or setting up power and engines. It makes Space Station living, breathing place. But not for long.

Why? Because on board at the start of the rund spawn either traitors, nuclear agents, changelings or other disasters. The crew role is to find the enemies and deal with the trouble. Which usually ends in total destruction and calling evacuation shuttle. There are also random disasters like meteor storm or just a chemist accidentaly creating napalm and setting medical bay on fire. Add to that rampant diseases from virology, rogue cyborgs and AI (oh GOD), the explosions depressurising the whole parts of the station... and here you have the experience of SS13.

It's lovingly dangerous and mad. Example? Yesterday I was a Librarian and after printing out the Bible of Trip Falling I began my crusade to convert the rest of the station. As a Mime I stalked a guy until he freaked out and ran. As a Station Engineer I blew up when setting up the Singularity (black hole basically). Death is often and prevalent in SS13, but as long as your brain survived you can get either cloned or borged... IF other people are still doing their job.

So? Anyone plays it? Anyone likes it?
