Other Games / Baldurs Gate "Enhanced" Edition [may contain SPOILERS]
« on: December 01, 2012, 12:37:31 am »
Alright, so BGEE was released just a few days ago and I got it on release day in hopes of it being a justification of the original game, it seems that I was somewhat keeping my hopes a bit too high. Ok, so I have been a fan of the BG series for a very long time and I just replayed BG1 using TUTU and to be honest, it's almost better than BGEE if it wasn't for Black Pits (that I enjoyed quite a bit).

BGEE is a buggy mess with lacking features and it's poorly adjusted to the new engine, some classes become completely useless and some weapon specifications are not even playable (because said weapon does not exist in the game, like katana), they did alter the beast specialization for rangers though so that's nice.

The developers claim there to be over 400 improvements to the game and engine, either I'm stupid or I just missed them, the UI is a mess and outdated, with the new engine, they could at least have done something about the blocky oversized UI that belong on the 90's, their proudly presented wide screen support is glitching up with stretched areas of the UI and various elements getting distorted, which is unacceptable.

There are some major issues that the devs really should have thought about before releasing it, and I don't understand how they could've missed some of these even though the pushed the release date once. The most obvious flaw that comes to mind is the lack of increasing game speed, you know the first time you started BG and the game ran so slow you could see each individual frame play as if the game experienced major lags? Guess what, you can't open the config tools (there is none) and change that frame rate to something more appealing, which is kinda retarted concidering most BG players play with a frame rate of at least 40.

There are some other minor glitches that get really annoying after a while, like that you can only scroll the buyers menu in the trade window but not your own inventory menu. And that the journal scrolling is glitched and flicker around for no reason. These are things that you do a lot in the game that need to work otherwise it's just tedious and a sign of sloppy design, I'm disappointed.

Sorry to say it but BGEE is a mess and needs a lot of things fixed before I can truly enjoy it like I did with the original (or TUTU), I highly recommend you to buy the games on GoG (it's rather cheap) and install the TUTU mod to play BG1 with the improved ToB engine instead of BGEE.

Sorry for the long rant, I just felt like I needed to ventilate somewhere. :P

What's your thoughts on the new BGEE?

Discussions / The Art Thread
« on: November 23, 2012, 12:35:40 am »
Okay! Since I'm a big art nerd and a rising artist myself, I thought it would be natural for me to start an art thread! Things are kinda dead right now so why not start something new?

My goal as an artist is actually to become a concept artist and I'm going to an intense two month course early next year. I have been drawing since I was a kid and I've always loved colours and how they work together (one of my favourite types of scribling is experimenting shading with grading colors from light to shadow, some really amazing stuff can happen). Fantasy and sci fi is kinda my thing, stretching your mind to get results is the best kind of satisfaction.

Any more artists here on Underrail forums? What's your story? :)

To kickstart this thread: I just made a small fanart for the old portrait seen way back in the dev log:

Discussions / What do you play right now?
« on: November 22, 2012, 01:57:30 am »
Standard forum thread. What games do you currently play/replay? :)

Right now I'm not playing too much because I'm doing art practice until my conceptart course starts.

But during the  times I feel less inspired, I usually play slow paced games like FTL, Elderscrolls and other open world games. From time to time I play a game of LoL with my friends. :)

What do YOU play?

Just saw that such a thread has already been created, sorry for that!

General / History and Lore
« on: November 05, 2012, 10:03:10 pm »
I understand that you are working hard on the technical aspects of the game right now. But I've been thinking some about the potential of lore in this game, the setting and area that the game takes place in makes my storytelling fingers itch. It's very similar to Fallout and those game are filled to the brink with interesting lore, people, places, beasts and history, tragedies and triumphant events (albeit somewhat trivial ones).

And that brings me to my question: Will the game, as far as you can tell Styg, be heavily generous with lore (books, computer documents, dialogue, notes, examination etc) or will most of the actual lore be shared through quest dialogues? And how much do you plan on expanding the universe and lore?

General / Modding?
« on: October 31, 2012, 01:10:16 am »
Will this game allow modding, or will you even allow us to mod the game (altering game files and distribute them)?

I've been into modding games and I'd love to be able to create my own content, or modify things that I'm not satisfied with. Like creating my own quests, areas and maybe items even. Retexturing and re-imagining current items or character sprites.

Is modding going to be a part of Underrail or is it too early into development to say?

General / Really loving the game so far
« on: October 29, 2012, 12:07:20 pm »
Hi! I just want to say that I'm absolutely flattered by Styg and this project! I'm a huge WRPG fan and I've waited since forever for a new game that plays out like the old Fallout titles, and I have to look no further! This game contains everything that I ever wanted in a isometric rpg, although there are some things that could be better. :)

Here's my list of suggestions:

- A map, I find it kinda hard to navigate through the tunnels sometimes. And scrolling around the area is very tedious when you could have a quick overview.
- Experimenting with crafting. I would like to see the ability to experiment with crafting to discover new items on my own without a blueprint. Especially when it comes to clothing and the likes, with a high skill level, the req to have a blueprint to create a jacket is beyond me.
- More examining: I really loved it in Mass Effect that you could examine different things to expand your codex, which also gave a small experience boost. One thing that I would like to see in Underrail is the ability to gain experience by actually experience the game: examining surroundings and items, talk to people and ask questions. And with enough "real" experience, you could get minor perks, such as a small percentage boost of noticing hidden doors/traps, new dialogue options or higher effectiveness with certain items, maybe even a boost in intelligence or perception.
-Running, backtracking is a pain when you can't move faster than walking speed.

That's pretty much it for now, I might come up with more suggestion when I've played the game some more. :)

Thanks a lot for making this game!
