So I just finished my painting of the caverns, with one of the generators. I think it turned out decent, the perspective is somewhat off though.

NOLF 1

No one lives forever? Man I remember that game, it was amazing back in the day, too bad I played it on my friend's pirated copy, do you know somewhere I can buy it?

I haven't actually tried the new companions because I wanted to play it vanilla style so that I could get a good understanding of what was actually improved and what was missing, but I heard that the new companions are really amazingly done, and have romance subquests, so that's really nice, I wish they did some overhaul for the old characters, but they didn't which is a shame.

Yeah, it was intended to be a more of a enhanced version of the original to work better on new systems and to be more appealing to new gamers, only they did it worse with bad textures (BG2 UI looks nicer), muddy fonts and display glitches all over the place. To me, the presentation is just as important as the content, so the decision to remove the cinematics and replace them with cartoon style motion comic really made it seem less serious, they even removed the quote from the title : "He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster... when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss also gazes into you". I really hated that, because that quote really set the theme of the whole BG saga, and they removed it.

I can't agree more, concidering the brains behind PE and the amount of resources they gathered on Kickstarter I'm pretty confident that Obsidian will deliver on this one. :)

Other Games / Baldurs Gate "Enhanced" Edition [may contain SPOILERS]
« on: December 01, 2012, 12:37:31 am »
Alright, so BGEE was released just a few days ago and I got it on release day in hopes of it being a justification of the original game, it seems that I was somewhat keeping my hopes a bit too high. Ok, so I have been a fan of the BG series for a very long time and I just replayed BG1 using TUTU and to be honest, it's almost better than BGEE if it wasn't for Black Pits (that I enjoyed quite a bit).

BGEE is a buggy mess with lacking features and it's poorly adjusted to the new engine, some classes become completely useless and some weapon specifications are not even playable (because said weapon does not exist in the game, like katana), they did alter the beast specialization for rangers though so that's nice.

The developers claim there to be over 400 improvements to the game and engine, either I'm stupid or I just missed them, the UI is a mess and outdated, with the new engine, they could at least have done something about the blocky oversized UI that belong on the 90's, their proudly presented wide screen support is glitching up with stretched areas of the UI and various elements getting distorted, which is unacceptable.

There are some major issues that the devs really should have thought about before releasing it, and I don't understand how they could've missed some of these even though the pushed the release date once. The most obvious flaw that comes to mind is the lack of increasing game speed, you know the first time you started BG and the game ran so slow you could see each individual frame play as if the game experienced major lags? Guess what, you can't open the config tools (there is none) and change that frame rate to something more appealing, which is kinda retarted concidering most BG players play with a frame rate of at least 40.

There are some other minor glitches that get really annoying after a while, like that you can only scroll the buyers menu in the trade window but not your own inventory menu. And that the journal scrolling is glitched and flicker around for no reason. These are things that you do a lot in the game that need to work otherwise it's just tedious and a sign of sloppy design, I'm disappointed.

Sorry to say it but BGEE is a mess and needs a lot of things fixed before I can truly enjoy it like I did with the original (or TUTU), I highly recommend you to buy the games on GoG (it's rather cheap) and install the TUTU mod to play BG1 with the improved ToB engine instead of BGEE.

Sorry for the long rant, I just felt like I needed to ventilate somewhere. :P

What's your thoughts on the new BGEE?

Thank you, I'm thinking about doing another one with either the caves or the commons. :)

While I'm deciding which one it'll be, I want to show some cartoony black/white drawing I made a few days ago. :)

Alright! Looks like I will have to go underground some more with both BGEE and the new underrail release. :)

Do you have a specific version in mind when you will start the alpha funding?

Okay! Since I'm a big art nerd and a rising artist myself, I thought it would be natural for me to start an art thread! Things are kinda dead right now so why not start something new?

My goal as an artist is actually to become a concept artist and I'm going to an intense two month course early next year. I have been drawing since I was a kid and I've always loved colours and how they work together (one of my favourite types of scribling is experimenting shading with grading colors from light to shadow, some really amazing stuff can happen). Fantasy and sci fi is kinda my thing, stretching your mind to get results is the best kind of satisfaction.

Any more artists here on Underrail forums? What's your story? :)

To kickstart this thread: I just made a small fanart for the old portrait seen way back in the dev log:

I can imagine the expenses to produce physical copies, for an indie company with a limited budget that sort of thing might not be a priority.

Standard forum thread. What games do you currently play/replay? :)

Right now I'm not playing too much because I'm doing art practice until my conceptart course starts.

But during the  times I feel less inspired, I usually play slow paced games like FTL, Elderscrolls and other open world games. From time to time I play a game of LoL with my friends. :)

What do YOU play?

Just saw that such a thread has already been created, sorry for that!

Not sure if trolling or serious.

No offence intended but do you really believe everything that is said in those books? Are there and references to research or studies in those books? If so, please share them with us. Because that is an immense claim to say that we are cattle to aliens. Although no one have ever seen or taken pictures of an alien, no one (except loonies) have told the stories after "abduction", neither have people dissapeared because they were eaten for lunch, and if that was true, a lot of people would be needed to feed aliens, and as far as I'm concerned, not nearly as many people as needed disappear during weird circumstances and those who do are almost always found (dead or alive) but have disappeared for different matters than "aliens". IF the amount of people that are needed to feed aliens disappear, then we would be a dwindling population, unless we breed under controlled circumstances, which is highly doubtful.

Quote
People conveniently lie themselves that the above theory is ridiculous

Except we don't, people are smart enough to understand that they are not controlled by aliens in the same fashion that we control cattle. I'm not saying everyone is smart, there are a fair amount of fatuous people around, but to see such a connection you must have overwhelming proof, like research, photos (although photos are almost negligible because of manipulation) and tests. All "proof" I know of is books written on unfounded drivel.

Do you have proof?

I'm not trying to attack your point of view, I'm merely questioning it.
