Discussions / Re: Do you believe in UFO?
« on: November 12, 2012, 12:51:06 pm »
I don't specificaly believe in UFO's and by that I assume you mean Aliens inside the boundaries of earth? But I do believe that there are other life forms in the universe, it would be ignorant to suggest otherwise. But for them to go inside our athmosphere and steal our cows, draw wacky stuff on our cornfields and drain our resources? Highly unlikely, first of all, they don't need our cows, why would they need them? food? when they obviously would have rations with them because it's you know, a space travel operation? And draining our resources seem highly unlikely as well, what would they need our resources when they have been traveling through the universe? Some serious technical stuff is required to do that.

UFO's? Nope, though it could anything, hence "unidentified". Species in other places in the universe? Of course. I find it hard to answer the poll, because there's no specification as to what you mean by UFO, it could be anything. (that's why I went with the most common suggestion: aliens, in the reply above). Could you be more specific please?

Thanks. :)

That would require some sort of reference point in the shape of lore, doesn't it? I can imagine that the stories need to have some sort of connection the game, its areas and history. And as it is right now, there's not too much to talk about (from what I've seen). But Styg is certainly holding on a lot of lore that we haven't seen or read yet that could be of use.

But then, I'm getting ahead of myself here. :P

I understand that you are working hard on the technical aspects of the game right now. But I've been thinking some about the potential of lore in this game, the setting and area that the game takes place in makes my storytelling fingers itch. It's very similar to Fallout and those game are filled to the brink with interesting lore, people, places, beasts and history, tragedies and triumphant events (albeit somewhat trivial ones).

And that brings me to my question: Will the game, as far as you can tell Styg, be heavily generous with lore (books, computer documents, dialogue, notes, examination etc) or will most of the actual lore be shared through quest dialogues? And how much do you plan on expanding the universe and lore?

Hi! Of course we will like you! The forum is a bit dead though, I joined recently too but I don't think the game is recognized enough to have a seriously involved community yet, sadly. But a few people have joined since I got here, and it always fun with new people. :)

I really like the way things are right now. I remember how in Fallout (especially the second one) I always shot my enemy in the eyes and blinding them, rendering them unable to hit me, which made combat super easy. A targetting system can easily be abused like that which is unfortunate.

With special feats and skills, it adds to the concept of choice, whether you want to disable your enemies legs in order to get away, or aim for extra damage to neutralize enemies faster, it adds to the gameplay and provide a certain degree of depth which I really like in RPGs.

Come to think of it, I would really love to see a feat that allow the player to make silent shots with crossbows that does not break stealth, because as it is right now, my crossbow stealth character can't kill enemies efficiently enough. These shots need long cooldowns though for them to balance.

Oh ok cool. :)

That's weird I actually searched for a modding thread but didn't find any.

Will this game allow modding, or will you even allow us to mod the game (altering game files and distribute them)?

I've been into modding games and I'd love to be able to create my own content, or modify things that I'm not satisfied with. Like creating my own quests, areas and maybe items even. Retexturing and re-imagining current items or character sprites.

Is modding going to be a part of Underrail or is it too early into development to say?

Yeah, I get what you mean.

Actually there was an Infinity Engine style map screen implemented, but I had to disable it because of some technical issues when I transitioned to XNA 4.0. I might bring it back at some point in development.

That would be amazing :)

General / Really loving the game so far
« on: October 29, 2012, 12:07:20 pm »
Hi! I just want to say that I'm absolutely flattered by Styg and this project! I'm a huge WRPG fan and I've waited since forever for a new game that plays out like the old Fallout titles, and I have to look no further! This game contains everything that I ever wanted in a isometric rpg, although there are some things that could be better. :)

Here's my list of suggestions:

- A map, I find it kinda hard to navigate through the tunnels sometimes. And scrolling around the area is very tedious when you could have a quick overview.
- Experimenting with crafting. I would like to see the ability to experiment with crafting to discover new items on my own without a blueprint. Especially when it comes to clothing and the likes, with a high skill level, the req to have a blueprint to create a jacket is beyond me.
- More examining: I really loved it in Mass Effect that you could examine different things to expand your codex, which also gave a small experience boost. One thing that I would like to see in Underrail is the ability to gain experience by actually experience the game: examining surroundings and items, talk to people and ask questions. And with enough "real" experience, you could get minor perks, such as a small percentage boost of noticing hidden doors/traps, new dialogue options or higher effectiveness with certain items, maybe even a boost in intelligence or perception.
-Running, backtracking is a pain when you can't move faster than walking speed.

That's pretty much it for now, I might come up with more suggestion when I've played the game some more. :)

Thanks a lot for making this game!

First off I want to say that I'm absolutely loving this game so far and I've been a great fan of the Fallout series for a long time as well as the Forgotten Realms titles. So real big kudos to you Styg!

And I also want to make a suggestion about maps, I'm cool with the idea of a "world map" (if you could call it that) in sacrifice of a local one, but another thing that would be really useful is a zoom feature that allows you to quickly toggle a 0.5x zoom of your area, that way you easily erase the tedious 'slowly scrolling around the map method' that's in the game now.
