Game refuses to launch

I tried nearly everything. I searched far and wide for a solution but the game just wont launch for me. I'm heartbroken and desperate at this point. When i try to start it nothing comes up, just steam will say for 5 seconds that I'm playing it. I bought this new so it never ran on my machine.  There also is no Folder under Documents\MyGames. Maybe someone has an Idea that I could try?

System:

Asus PRIME X370-A X370
AMD Ryzen 5 2600X
MSI 8GB D6 RTX 2070 Armor 8G
16 GB DDR4 RAM
Windows 10 Pro 64bit

So far I've tried:

- Reinstall XNA Framework 4.0 (about 20 times)
- Reinstall all Runtime Librarys with AiO
- Verify/Repair DirectX
- sfc /scannow and DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Verify Underrails local files via steam
- Reinstall the Game
- Run the game in various compability modes and as Admin with everything Anitvirus related turned off and the folder and the .exe added to every exception list i could find
- Reinstall the game with Antivirus off
- Reinstall XNA with Antivirus off
- Updated drivers
- unplugged my second screen (some games have weird issues like this lol)
- checked for Data Execution Prevention being set to default
- moved the game via steam from my ssd to my m.2
- closing everything that didn't need to run to prevent compability issues
- Reinstall XNA Framework 4.0 another 20 times because that's what fixes it for everyone else
- Fresh Windows Media Player Install
- Forcing Underrail to launch in 32bit mode

I also had DebugView running for the most part and it shows absolutly nothing when i try to start the game (by the .exe, not by steam).

One weird thing is that when I verifiy the Files Steam usually tells me there is a single file missing and either updates Underrail for 2 seconds or updates Steam Common Redist.

I really hope someone comes up with an Idea.

Just please don't make me reinstall Windows, thank you.

Might be steam. Try launching the game without steam running, game does not check too see if steam is running or installed. If all else fails you could try to install the game on a different computer you might have lying around, then move the files to your main pc.

This is getting kind of ridiculous now but i can't stop trying to fix this.
Following a Suggestion from a User on Steam who was wondering about the missing Folder under Documents\My Games I:

- added the exclusion for the documents folder
- repaired local files and reinstalled XNA -> No luck
- Deinstalled BitDefender
- Deactivated everything Windows Security related
- Deactivated Data Execution Prevention
- Restarted PC
- Reinstalled XNA and the Game -> No Luck
- Verified Files again -> still no luck

... and there is still no Underrail folder in Documents\My Games. But it could also be that the game creates the config file after the first launch.

I'm currently trying your Suggestion.
Installed the game on another system and it worked instantly. Now copying the files and the Folder from Documents.

My two systems are very similiar to ech other and allthough Underrail launched on my second system it will still not work with the files copyied from my other PC.
Last ditch effort is refunding it on Steam, buying it on GoG and trying everything I've done so far again.

I am done.*NOTHING* will work. This has broken me. My Wife left me because all I did for the last 30 hourse was trying to fix this. Took the Kids with her. On the upside i lost about 10 pounds because I forgot to eat and drink.

It does look like there's something hell bent on preventing underrail.exe from running on your system. You might have overlooked some security program.

Usually if it's XNA issue, the game will at least start with a black screen.

Hi Styg!

.... so, I might have found out what was causing that kerfuffle. I looked in the event viewer (should have done that a lot earlier) and i got two errors: application errror 1000 and .net error 1026.
After snooping for a little it turns out that's most likely caused by a faulty windows installation and it's absolutly not fixable.
So I did what had to be done, a fresh windows installation.

This finally finally finally fixed the problem and I can now play it.

It's awesome by the way and the emotinal trauma I endured until I had it up and running perfectly prepared me for it.

So this might be a 1 in a 10.000.000 problem but maybe this thread will help someone out in the future, if only to find out that their problem is not an easy fix.
