Respec option for DLC

Yea-yea, I know Styg's position on this matter, but since we got new feats with new requirements, I think it would be proper to introduce some smart one time re-specialisation option for those who wants to use their character in the expansion. What are your thoughts on this?

Same thoughts as always.  It would be terribly easy to abuse, and thus it would get abused terribly.  If you're so unhappy with your build, just build a new character.  It really doesn't take long to get through the Depot if you know what to do and aren't stopping to sniff the daisies, and then it's a real quick matter to just level up to 16-18.  Basically swing by Foundry and you're there.

It's easy to implement it in the game and make hard to abuse. Put it like quest: advanced technology capable of changing some stats/feats/skills, a barely legal surgeon able to perform some limited changes. I mean you have to give people some slight chance to correct the build just once, just for DLC, just fairly slightly.

I really don't want to begin it all over again just because of one stat mistake. I'm happy with my build, I just understand now that I'm not able to get some sweet veteran feat.

A respec option of any kind and magnitude will always be abuseable in Underrail, without exceptions. There are various skills and feats that are only of use at specific few points of the game and not of much use otherwise. If you could respec a feat, what's stopping you from taking Power Managment, making a top tier shield with it, then respeccing the feat into something that has direct benefits in combat? What's going to stop you from respeccing points from crafting into other skills once you crafted what you need? Opened the containers with highest skill checks? It's not going to happen. Skills are supposed to be game long investment, not something you discard once it's no longer useful.

Oh please, don't give in to this load of crap. The respec option is what this game was lacking for a while and absolutely needs. New players are bound to make mistakes in Underrail, and instead of showing them a big middle finger, give them an option to save their IRL time and adjust their build on the fly, no starting from scratch bullshit. "The player will abuse the game" who cares? Those who want to play "fair and square" and those who want to cheat, it's their moral choice, give them an option to do both. I'm yet to hear anyone to complain about respec options in any video game and Underrail isn't an exception, it will only benefit from it.

Making mistakes and dealing with them is a core part of any good RPG. Choices and consequences apply to character building, too.

Starting from scratch should not be necessary unless you intentionally gimped your build. It's your own personal choice. I never did that, ever.

Sure, it's your right to cheat to your heart's content. It's also the developer's right to not make cheating any easier. If respec was implemented, it wouldn't be cheating anymore. It would be using a legitimate tool the game offers.

You haven't heard that many people then. Anyways, neither of us has any say in the matter, really. Styg made it known that he's against respec a long time ago.

Tbh I don't get this argument. And that is even though I don't use respec or any similar options, don't min-max and play generally suboptimal builds. Because if someone uses respec to get an overpowered character? So what. It's a single player game. They are not going to cheat against my character in the game, or that of any other player. This won't impact my game in the slightest. And I highly doubt the computer - who is your only opponent in Underrail - is going to feel abused by anything you do in your game.

I was just asking regarding any slight respec option for DLC only, because we got new feats introduced. As for the game as a whole I totally agree with this restriction. I've ruined so many good games, messing with respec option. They simply became uninteresting. Now when I heard some of the arguments here I'm more than convinced that respec option isn't a thing we need even for veteran feats. I'd wish more games were this hardcore (I'm looking at you WOW classic).

I think the best option would be only allowing respec when importing an existing character into a new game. That way you can still shuffle stats, points or feats and try a new build without having to start from level 1.
