Thoughts and Questions
« on: December 22, 2012, 12:03:31 pm »
I have to admit when I first downloaded it I thought it was going to be fairly crappy, I thought "meh what the hell it will entertain me for an hour or so I guess." How wrong I was...

Even in it's current alpha build it has kept me hooked and I have yet to encounter anything more serious than a grammatical error. (other than requireing windows media player to launch it...boooo!) I can feel that insatiable urge to re-roll my character over and over slowly coming back to me. No modern games have made me feel that way. Only the likes of the original Fallouts ever managed that, the fact that pretty much every time you played thorough it you could do it differently was the reason it never annoyed me when I did. Hell even 12 years later I found new things and ways of doing quests.

You said somewhere that your going to hire an artist at some point? How many of you are working on this atm? I have a bit of hard on for isomeric pixel art and I like the style and feel you have got going on. I am guessing everything is made of tiles and put together in an in house level editor of some description. A video of you building an area in the editor (unless it's you do it just in code like a crazy person) would be awesome.

As for the characters, did you build them in 3D and render out sprites or are they hand drawn? Also how do you go about changing the weapons of clothes on something like that, that is something that has always puzzled me. There as to be a shortcut I'm not seeing, I would love to know how you went about it.

Anyway keep up the good work I'm genuinely impressed by what I have seen so far.

Hi,

Thanks for the support. I'm very glad you're enjoying the game that much.

I do almost all the work on the game myself, including drawing tilesets. I do have an editor I use and as a matter of fact I did make a video of assembling an area once not long ago but never got around to uploading it, so that's something I might do at some point.

The characters are 3D pre-renders and that's about the only thing I don't do myself. Mark, a freelance 3D artist does all the work on them - modelling, texturing, animating, rendering. As for weapon-armor variations, there really isn't any smart way to go about it (as far as I know), you have to render out all the combinations, and that's the reason why the game is so heavy (800+ MBs) and will get even heavier in the future.
