Assault rifles precision: am i missing something?
« on: October 26, 2018, 01:29:53 am »
Hi all, i am about to try a "new" (again) build with a single shot AR + criticals, but i found something very weird: precision of hits was inferior (like even half) the one from smg or pistols, given the same conditions. Sitting at  9 tiles, precision with my AR fell to 33% while with smg was 67%, around same damage on weapon and ql of both, and overall same conditions (no attachments lile lasers or scopes).
Anyone can explain me why?

Probably your strength or guns skill isn't high enough to use the AR yet.

Just checking at the shooting range: full repaired hammerer 44, jaguar 7.62 and marauder 8.6, at 10 yarde i have 67%, 66% and 59% chances respectively..uhmmm...
Drinking mushroom brew that removes 2 points of perception reduces chance to hit to 64%, 63% and 51%, so have a worse effect with AR... O_o

Perception influences guns skill, so the higher the skill requirement on a gun the more it will be impacted.

Assault rifles have a bigger precision drop-off over range than pistols and SMGs, especially outside of optimal range. It's something that I tested myself a long time ago.

Actually at shooting range the dropoff is the same at 10 and 5 yarde, wich should both be in optimal range, and i dunnow but i understood that AR have 40 guns  requirement, but that requirement should not have any impact over precision, or am i wrong in that and the requirement lowers down the actual guns level or something like that?

Oh, cool, so i expect to have a better aim return as my skill grows up from AR then. This makes sense finally, thou from a game perspective was incredibly confusing :p Thanks

You can add a scope to your AR to increase it's accuracy, or barrel compensator if your using mostly bursts.

Thanks, i know that i can add scopes but they do not offset the decrease of precision due to the continuous increase in required skill: atm, with 10 perc and a <50ql rifle, maxed skill at 11th level, i often have from 30 to 50% chance to hit a target inside optimal range.

This sounds like a lighting problem.

Try using a flare/torch/Molotov/other light source on your target, or some NVGs. I prefer NVGs, but they have some stiff drawbacks, depending on your build.

Alternatively, if your target is well lit and you still have trouble hitting them, it's possible your perception is too low.

Finally, if you have a 10+ PER build and NVGs and you're still at 50% CTH with maxed skills, try playing on something less than DOMINATING. Dominating is completely unbalanced with enemy stat/skill scaling...

This I agree with 100%.

If you plan on using ranged weapons in dark caves and unlit locations in Underrail, you will find that a pair of night vision goggles makes a great difference. Especially if you want to use burst fire for anything but point blank range.

Many areas of SGS are not fully illuminated.

I can confirm that my assault rifle has inferior accuracy to a pistol or SMG, even at 12 tiles. Obviously, this makes no sense. I have 1 strength higher than the requirement (6). I haven't moved, as I'm out of combat just standing there. Reproduced once combat starts. Very bewildering.

I read each weapon very carefully for mods. There is no laser sight, scope, or any other mod that would affect this. I have noticed it with multiple weapons as well. It's not the lighting, since the lighting is the same if I remain stationary and simply swap weapons.

Edit: Now I'm realizing that the assault rifle can hit ranges that the SMG/pistol cannot. It's still surprising that the assault rifle reliably has inferior accuracy at the upper limit of SMG and pistol range.
