== Background ==
Bate is a native northerner between 30-40 years of age. Along with Trenton, he was one of the founders of the local South Underrail cell created to combat the [[Protectorate]]'s expansionism while it is still in its early stages.

As a leader, his greatest value lies in his social skills. He never misses an opportunity to socialize with his fighters, to talk or share a drink with them. While Trenton is respected, Bate is ''liked''.

Before her disappearance, Bate used to be in a relationship with fellow cell leader Marcella Green.

Alvin Bate is a Protectorate spy known by the alias "Red Snake" reporting to [[Colonel Cathcart]]. Marcella had taken notice of small signs of suspicious behavior coming from Bate, but her love for him was so strong that she rejected the idea of him being a traitor. Fearing he did not have much time before the truth would finally come out, Bate lured Marcella out to the nearby [[Lower Underrail caves|caves]] where he attempted to murder her. He left the wounded Marcella to her fate, unaware that her injuries were far from fatal.

Bate did not start out as a spy, his downfall was caused by his love for his family. Even after joining the Free Drones, he was reluctant to cut contact with his [[Milla Bate|daughter]] living in North Underrail. Upon discovering his mistake, the Protectorate took advantage of this perfect opportunity for blackmail. As a spy his job was to leak sensitive information about the cell, undermine their recruitment efforts, and sabotage their operations where possible.
