The Rathound family of creatures are among the most common enemies encountered early on in Underrail.

Description

Rathounds are ugly, smelly, mangy, disease ridden dog-sized rats. You can find them anywhere and if you can't find them somewhere, know that they'll get there too eventually. Individually they are not so tough, but they usually move around in packs, sometimes hordes, They are very good pack hunters, so don't let them surround you.

Old Jonas

It's a rat, about the size of a dog. These disgusting creatures can be found pretty much everywhere. They even crawl around in ventilation shafts, leaving you to wonder how did they even get in there. Rathounds aren't especially dangerous or intelligent, but they are pack animals and they get Pack Hunting buff when in groups.

They only attack in melee and have no special attacks worth mentioning.

Rathound

The common variety.

Rathound Alpha

For details, see Rathound Alpha.

Alpha males of rathound packs. Larger and tougher than the common rathound. They have reddish fur.

Ancient Rathound

For details, see Ancient Rathound.

Particularly strong and cunning, long-lived rathounds. Very rare. Much larger and tougher than any common rathounds. They have washed out gray hide.

Fighting tactics

They are deathly afraid of fire, making incendiary weapons and even thrown flares very efficient against them. The slightest sight of fire makes them scatter in fear, giving you a breather.

Whenever possible, ranged characters should try to lock themselves behind chainlink fences for a nice and relaxed plinking session against rathounds.

Rathounds revere the Rathound King. Wearing his livery will turn Rathounds friendly. The Oddity "How to tame a rathound" bestows no such effect.

Rumours

Quinton from SGS found they can gnaw their way out of a Dog Crate.

Dude has had visions of the Rathound King.

Joel outside the Hanging Rat bar claims to have a scar from a childhood attempt to ride a Rathound.
