Dog Crates can be used to catch small live animals such as cave hoppers during Bret's hopper round up or otherwise.
Rathounds and other larger creatures are too large to catch and will often eat their way out of these, as Quinton unfortunately had to experience. The Dog Crate cannot capture Dogs, despite its name.
