Where to add spoilers?
Where could we put spoilers relating to Faceless' origin and what happened to Biocorp scientists at the Hollow Earth Complex?
I'd love to sprinkle lore here and there. sthalik (talk) 01:19, 25 February 2018 (CST)
- Tough call. Maybe Hollow Earth or even the very much unfinished Biocorp article, depending on what you're planning to focus on. Generally speaking, we barely have any real writing on the lore yet, so there's still plenty of freedom for editors to establish a style. I wonder if abscisin has any input on this.
- On the technical side, you can use {{spoiler}} for inline spoilers like this or {{hiddensection}} for larger sections with show/hide toggle that defaults to hidden. - epeli (talk) 14:33, 25 February 2018 (CST)
- Update: I just made {{spoiler warning}} template for articles like Six that are mostly just one big spoiler. And On the side, let's try to keep the spoilers to minimum on Hadrian Tanner and such articles - the idea is to avoid spoiling players who might be looking something else like basic quest information. - epeli (talk) 15:41, 25 February 2018 (CST)
- My rule of thumb is that on any article I prefer to keep spoilers proportional to what I feel a reader checking it would reasonably expect. On a character or faction article having background information should not be a problem, but for bits that are treated as secrets in the game, or for those that are not but are not revealed until much later, it is better to use inline spoiler or hiddensection. And when the spoiler is too big to take the risk or its presence is in itself a spoiler, it is best to split. Conversely on pure lore articles – such as Biocorp projects, historical events, obscure mentioned-only characters, articles in general you would be unlikely to visit by accident – I would not worry too much about marking spoilers, if at all. That said, it's best decided on a case by case basis.
- For the origin of the Faceless, what I think I'd do is add a hiddensection to their faction article with a short paragraph and links to Phenotype Dynamics and Hollow Earth Incident for more context. Similarly for the Biocorp scientists Hollow Earth Incident is the best candidate if we want to give the whole picture, while parts of it could go to Tchort's lore article, with the heavy spoiler warning and everything apart from Tchortist propaganda under hiddensection. - Abscisin (talk) 11:46, 24 March 2018 (CDT)
