Builds / Re: Machete/shotgun temp psi support build ------need help!!
« on: October 07, 2019, 07:14:13 pm »
Shotguns are particularly vulnerable to evasion. You have 3 perception and 38 effective guns skill... You will never reach 95% to hit with shotguns with this build, even against stunned and immobilized enemies until very late.

Your build is solid as melee, but versatility isnt going to make up for how inaccurate shotguns inherently are.

You absolutely -need- leading shot for this build. And ultimately, shotguns and melee really occupy the same range type, so my question is you're doing mechanical damage at close range, shotgun and sword both fill that role.

Builds / Re: Super high avoidance Precognition build?

Sprint + Evasive Manuevers + TM Contraction gives you 225 effective evasion for 1 turn. Which is significant if you add in other bonuses from food/armor/cloak.

Issues with super high avoidance is that it only works on difficulties easier than dominating, and it's really not reliable enough to depend on it. IE you'll still be spending your yellow action on breaking los against snipers, this really doesn't let you sit there because you are still going to get 1 shot from time to time with 3 con.

So to fully build a character around it is kinda futile imo, you'll still have to play like a 3 con character anyway because you will die from bursts, get 1 shot from tk punch and insta-die to grenades.

The point of sprint + evasive is when there isn't any cover and you're expecting to get hit from a sniper.

Only reliable avoidance is uncanny dodge, which unless you're making a non-psi melee character, can be left at 40, since psi user has no issue CCing enemies at close range, and uncanny dodge is 100% reliable for desperate situations.

Psi characters also do not need traps for the above reason. cryostasis, stasis, mental breakdown, and fear is plenty CC, especially with locus.

What the build really lacks is a source of reliable CC outside of cryostasis/stasis, and burst damage. TM can kill but it's just not bursty enough on demand.

Pretty much I would change this into a psychosis build and drop lock/hack/traps since the loot you get from those isn't really needed and the good loot is behind much higher gates in expedition.

Higher telekinetic also is major because disruptive field is very very good at what it does, in that the AI often wont even attempt to make ranged attacks since their chance to hit is so low.

Blitz is not very important because your limiting resource will always be psi, and contraction already gives you all the action points you'd ever want or need. Cyrokinetic orb makes paranoid also kinda useless since it's the ultimate stealth-sweeper. So this build lets you have incredible dodge/evasion when you really need it (active instead of passive which is what psi-avoidance excells at), and much much better damage potential. Why bother min-maxing evasion build when you can just 1 shot snipers with mania'd tk punch and entire groups of mooks with orb

This was the first area in expedition I explored immediately leaving base. On dominating. I agree

There are very few @ 130 in expedition. There's also an item that boosts lock/hack by 10. So technically I guess 120 + that.

Most of these really aren't that important, one of the main characters in expedition has a 130 safe that has 500 charons. Not really a big deal.

Tbh pickpocket is useful early on, and it's going to be very hard to find people who know any of the higher thresholds specifically

Anyone find this?

It's literally just a black screen followed by a few lines of dialog, you get this perk. https://www.underrail.com/wiki/index.php?title=Body_Horror

Not really worth it, considering failing resolve checks usually means game over.

Makes good sense, I didn't know you couldn't use elemental bolts with either of those abilities.

cryostasis + Induction & a critical basically 1 shots every enemy in the game, the only enemy I can think of that it didn't was Magnar, but frozen targets can still be contaminated so enjoy your 20 stacks and give me that dreamcatcher  :P

..or was it the rune necklace...

Builds / Re: Optimizing a pure sniper build
« on: August 31, 2019, 02:23:03 pm »
I've played a few sniper builds on dominating, pure sniper is definitely manageable on hard.

As far as CC is concerned, if you aren't relying on grenades or commando bursting, and don't want to drop traps every fight you'll have a hard time without psi.

Chemical pistols have decent CC. Cryo can freeze for 1 turn, Acid can entangle for 2 turns and Incendiary ablazes/fears for 2 turns, only problem is you can't buy ammo until late midgame, and they'll cost 25 AP to fire with your 3 dex. So you'll need to use rr-spearhead or svd.

Regular pistols really only offer the ability to shoot close and after moving with no penalty, but you'll spend the entire turn killing a single enemy, since you'll always switch to sniper when aimedshot is up.

Energy pistols also suffer from the relatively high AP cost and although work better as a sidearm they pale in comparison to gun rushed AR.

Shotguns are without a doubt the best backup and easily deal with spawn/damaged enemies/grouped enemies. Craft a tactical short vindicator (higher max/wider cone) or vagabond (higher min) for the 20 AP cost higher damage and wider spread (can fire rr-reaper + forward grip shotgun same turn) Exclusively use hoppershot it takes almost everything out at point blank, without leading shot tungsten is not reliable.

Feat wise you absolutely want to get shooting spree and uncanny dodge. Shooting spree is tremendously powerful. Uncanny dodge lets you sprint/position with much more freedom and is easily the best feat for a low con build in the game. Dont drop any more into dodge than 40, you'll get 4 stacks which is more than enough for most melee enemies that can 1 shot 3 con.

Throwing nets are fairly reliable close range with minimal throwing, flash bangs are pretty much required, and taser is also very reliable. Flares of course for ambush.

Overall the sniper really shines with cryostasis + cryogenic induction and electrokinetic imprint, and that build doesn't require more than 3 will or any points into psi above 45 kinetics and 50 metathermics (for destabilization) and ideally 55 temporal for contraction. So if you decide to reroll definitely give that build a try.

Also jetski combat is fine with the sniper as long as you have flashbangs to give yourself enough time to land hits. You can use any weapon on one. Shotgun is particularly effective against the numerous type of enemy you'll encounter on the sea.

If you're going to spec into traps and electronics, Plasma mines are extremely strong, especially if you can reliably detonate them with throwing invested.

I don't really understand why you wouldn't take aimed shot & snipe though, especially for a steath & critical focused build. I understand how deadly snares works.. but are you really using beartraps for every fight? If it's for the personal challenge, then all power to ya.

Snipe, aimed shot and cryostasis shattering let you breeze through early, middle and any time you ever run into a group of three or less enemies later on as quickly as you can encounter them with no prep.

Can you do Tabi boots too?

I found that part extremely bizarre and very well done. Particularly the soundtrack for the sequence.

It was absolutely DOMINATING to clear the entire place out. About 40 total soldiers/officers/spec ops.

My only regret was that I didn't know I could access more to kill by turning on the alarm  :-\

went to great lengths to ensure the alarm didnt sound

you also need to post your encrypted text, I'm guessing you don't know what this is. It's on Mickey's terminal on the administration level in one of the emails.

it should look like this, but with different notes for you. You have to copy that into the decrpyter aswell. The reason you're getting gibberish is because you're inputing your interval & octave keys to the decoder's default example code.

GbGbEbEDb GEEGbG GbGbBDbE EbA#GbGC DbGbGDbC
EEbFGbA#Eb FFDbCEb ABAbEbF DbBDEG DbEb
GbGbEbCB ECEbEE DbEFG CGFA#Eb
DbBCGDE EbFEbCGb DbCEbDE EbFFGEEb

This part is actually the encoded message, and those keys you posted can be thought of the directions to turn these into letters/potentially a few numbers.

You definitely made an error copying either the octave key or encrypted text. Post a screenshot of both of them, easiest way to do this is to disable fullscreen in options then print screen, paste into paint, crop, and attach directly to the reply.

On second look, I figured it out, admittedly after successfully brute forcing 41 combinations
