Title: HARD MODE Ironman run?
Post by: Dizzy on February 26, 2016, 09:14:28 am
Curious as to what the most effective build would be for an HM Ironman run?

I'm assuming it would be a heavy trap user, or the unarmed psy/monk build.

Are there any tank builds that would be viable?  One mistake and it's game over for a slow tank IMO.

I think this build will include Thick Skull,  guarantee that char wont be stunned.

Yes 1 stun = High chance of death

It would require Stealth, but also have to need high offensive capabilities. Since in this game, offense is arguably the best defense.

In ToME4 too e.g., I think it follows from the very nature of the game - you are one, they are many.

Perhaps the best build for this would be a Stealthy Psi build.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Reasoning:
1. Versatility would be necessary in terms of offensive options.

2. Stealth for DC and other important areas

3. Tanky enough to survive an onslaught or two of enemy fire if required.

4. Needs to be non-reliant on ammunition for areas in the game that lack such things.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

A glass cannon build, such as unarmed Psi might work as well, but any mistakes and the run would be over in an instant.

my build in hard was a monk and never die (I was not even close), but not necessarily have to be a glass canon; you can be a psi monk and endure enough without losing power (I can be more detailed explaining my build if you are interested).

Sure! well, the idea of the build is very simple. You'll always attack first (high initiative and stealth) and in only one turn, you eliminate approximately three enemies (punching them, nothing else). At the end of the turn you will have a lot of MP to move where you want (hide from enemies or approach them). In almost every battle, you will not need more than two or at most three turns to win, and all this without adrenaline, so You can use all the adrenaline you want, always end the battle before you enter in fatigue.

As you eliminate all before they can act, you do not need any kind of crow control. So I do not use Thought Control (also need more will to be effective). I use Metathermics because the skills are fun (mathematermic aura + molotov, hell yea!), But you could use evasion for more endurance. Despite having 10 constitution, life is only 350, but with thick skull and a nice shield emitter, 350 are more than enough, do not worry.

SPOILER_______>And a tip for DC, do not use stealth at all in Hollow Earth, first go for the Echoing Soliloquy feat, then just walk and use hideouts, Hollow Earth it is the most deserted DC area. With this build you can even defeat
Tchort in 5 or 6 turns without the mutagen puzzle, just punching in his "face" :)

Yeah made it to DC with SMG build, and I will try this out next for sure.

You guys think it's possible to do an iron man run with Sledgehammer? I feel like it's impossible due to the weakness Sledge builds have.

I've made a full psi\stealth build.

Something like:

Str 3
Agi 3
Cos 5
Agi 6
Will 11
Int 10

My pg is a war machine...Polverized Depot A without much problem.

For now i've taken

Nimble
Sprint
Psi emphaty
Tranquillity
Force user
Pyromaniac
Cryogenic induction

And for skills: dodge, evasion, stealth, hacking, biology, all the psi, persuasion.
My previous char was a tank with assault rifle\sniper, effective but pale in comparison, because with psi and stealth you can burn them, make them flee, block them, restealth and go away then return for finish the job... i'm enjoying a lot this build.

Do you only use psi? Or do you have some other combat skill as a backup?

Nope, psi only, just a pistol for finish too much close enemies without spend psi points. 0 combat skills anyway.

Will try it out for sure! Thanks :]

Just psi might run into problems, but with careful use of traps it might work out.
