Suggestions / Re: Assorted genius ideas
« on: August 19, 2020, 04:54:31 pm »
Here's a genius idea:

Add hotkeys for item-wheel options. If I want my Huxkey to go to Hack, I press 1 (example), if I want to lockpick with it, I press 2 etc.

You can basically do this now. You can drag your Huxkey to two different slots on your hotkey bar, and set one to lockpick and the other to hack.

Thanks!

You're putting me in a very awkward position here, because I would like to give a similarly reactive reply as my original post, but you're just too reasonable. There are points I disagree with that I will adress below, but I now have the added problem of trying to figure out whether or not I actually feel that way or if I just want to continue disagreeing. Life has never been easy.

I feel like I owe you an apology for interpreting your suggestion in bad faith instead of realizing the more likely scenario where you typed it up quickly as a crude example, but because of my fragile ego I'm not going to give you one.

My fear is that the attempt to improve the narrative will, unless the proper time and care is taken (and idk what the logistics over at Stygian Software is like) make the playing experience worse than it currently is. I get by just fine with the primary motivation being a desire to explore and keep playing, and I think that for most of the game it would make way more sense for the player character to settle down and grow fungi or whatever like the rest of SGS. I think exploration for the sake of it is so woven into the whole experience of video games that a lack of narrative justifying it is a complete blindspot for me that I struggle to take seriously even if pointed out.

tl;dr: Sure, but make the changes absolutely brilliant or I will riot.

I disagree with the rest of your points because you disagree with me and I want to save face. Take that, disembodied representation of a threat to my conceptual social status!

I don't want to start an argument so this is just my opinion for balance:

I think the suggestion is godawful. In the Reddit post the top reply writes "That way, the game demonstrates that the villain is evil" because Tchort taunts you, as if the villain of the game belittling the protagonist proves him being "evil" or overshadows the obvious danger of being a psionic demigod trying to kill everyone who approaches except high ranking Tchortists, controlling a powerful cult ostensibly seeking world domination. While I agree that Six is a bit more vague than I would prefer, the storytelling in the suggestion is Harry Potter fanfic level.

This game is so good at nuance and not hitting the player over the head with a "message" that this would turn me off completely. And this talk about the player lacking motivation... Speaking of motivation: Why should Tchort taunt the player? Seems excessively pointless and petty for a creature that powerful. Is he a low-budget anime villain now?

Plenty of improvements could be made for sure, but this... I take solace in the fact that Styg & Co. seem to have pretty good taste in general.

Naga Protectors

Thaaaaaat's the one! Thank you! Ty to everyone else as well for advice. I just went with full psi so far, haven't gotten to the Expedition content yet.

Okay so I have no idea about the technical stuff OP writes about, but if there was a way to add additional music tracks that would be amazing. I've been making Underrail-inspired music for some time and would love for there to be a way to enjoy it outside of overwriting existing stuff.  :)

Let me be a bit more specific. Last time I played expedition I struggled against the big metal boyos. The robots. Can't remember their names. I am filled with a lust for vengeance. Do you know of a build that is adept at disposing of big metal boyos?

Hello! I've been having a long break from this game. Last time I played expedition I got stomped pretty badly. What's the best / one of the best builds for expedition? Will probably just play on Normal.

While I'm at it, does anybody have a clear picture of what happens in core city with the damn oligarchy warehouse missions?  I know Ola from JKK has some role in it.

I did the JKK questline yesterday, and while chasing down Cornell, I passed by a smoking corpse in the sewers.  It was the guy from the coretech questline who you chase down in drop zone, the one who stole the ICDP or whatever it's called (he says Ola hired him if you question him right).

It's been a long time since I played it and I tried to gather it all at one point, but can't remember. After glancing at the wiki though, this is my surface-level theory of what happened (in the warehouse missions only):

JKK has hired mercenaries to infiltrate a Coretech warehouse. The JKK spin is that you need to help them disable the security system to "rescue hostages". Praetorian security will ask you to clear the warehouse of said mercenaries after the Coretech people were killed, and Coretech will ask you to defend it from the mercenaries.

Whether or not Praetorian and JKK is working together on this in order to get something (maybe thinking that the cube is held here initially?) is not clear to me.

EDIT: Just checked in-game. Jon the bae confirms that JKK were the ones that "most likely" hired the mercs. He suggests that they were looking for something important in that warehouse. Hmmm, what could that be? ;)

If Kokoschka is from Serbia and Gunnar from Norway, there's no real-world hypothesis to be drawn for Underrail to be in Europe.
OTOH if Underrail is in North America, it makes sense.

Extremely nitpicky here, but Mr. Edstrom is definitely Swedish, not Norwegian. Names ending in -strom (forums won't let me use umlaut or magical scandi letters) are almost always Swedish. Furthermore, his portrait makes him look Swedish (a Norwegian can spot the difference).

I wouldn't know   :D
Will try soon with The Claw after I do some stuff in vanilla. Seems marginally higher on damage even without the proc in spite of fewer attack available.

I suppose I am probably a bit undergeared. I was hoping to not use fist weapons due to feats like improved unarmed combat which looked really powerful, but maybe I will have to wear some shock fists or something to deal with some of these mobs.

Can ho, approacher! Really digging the Expedition so far.
This is the thing though, I'm a psi-fist dude, and these crabs are really giving me a headache. All I want to do it crack their pincers and feast on their clean, lean and absolutely delicious crab fillets.

I can't seem to do a whole lot of damage though. Even with expose weakness only the smaller ones take damage from my attacks. I have some throwing skill, so I can psy-wall cheese and throw all my HE grenades at them, but I can't escape the feeling that I'm doing things the hard way. Do they have a weakness similar to the psi-beetle open carapace?

On the first level of the mutie base there is a rock you can climb over with 9 agility. Don't know if this is relevant to the quest as my agi is too low. Stuck here myself, I really don't want to kill the poor fuckers.

Hey guys! I know Ethan bailed SGS after the tunnel got cleared, but to where? I can't seem to find him in Core City, and Jon the Beautiful doesn't seem to have any dialogue options relating to the timeman.

If anyone can nudge me in the right direction or something it would be much appreciated!
