I heard that there was a "bug" where the two didn't work together. Was wondering if that has been fixed, or if the two are meant to not benefit from each other?

General / Locus of Control Range?
« on: May 11, 2020, 03:35:03 pm »
I have not acquired LoC yet, but I was wondering if it has the same or different range than the specified spell? For example if you use LoC with Enrage, is the range at which you cast it still 5? Or does it work like grenades where the further you are the less accurate it becomes?

No major spoilers please. I am at a point in the game where I have to return a train for Rail Crossing.

I was just wondering if not-helping The Drones will ruin my questline with Abram and his associates?

Builds / Re: Opinion on this Sniper Thought Control build?

I have actually never used Thought Control so I don't know how well this would work. Also not sure if I should cap it at 75 or keep boosting it. This is not for dominating.
I'd push it a little higher, if I were you.  Even on Hard, if your effective skill is under 200, you'll occasionally see some resists.  With a full psi build, you can stop at 75 because your psi beetle armor and uni-psi headband will get you well over 200 effective, but I can't see that build wearing a psi beetle tac vest.

You are significantly over-invested in Stealth, and a little over-invested in Lockpicking.  If you wanted, you could free up some points from there and add a dozen or so to TC to get you comfortably over 200.  If you plan on relying on TC to get you out of a pinch, you don't want to risk resists any more than you absolutely have to.  Then you could put all the points you have left into Chemistry and try to get to a buffed 69 effective so you can make some grenades and nice specialty ammo for your sniper rifle.  W2C is good enough, but there are some situations where the specialty ammo is even better.  Always nice to have a few rounds with you, just in case.

Something more like this would be a little tighter a build, though it would require you to buff up to hit your highest skill checks: http://underrail.info.tm/build/?HgUDBwMMCgbCoAAAAAAAwoxTWAAAZ2cqJ2d4LTJGOQBNATkoHTUnM35LwoUxGSQrIcKHwrXCpOKcmgXip74K378

Thank you for the input. Which skill checks would I need to buff?

Was trying to work out a stealth glass cannon build that could utilize specific psi skills. Namely Neurovisual Disruption for quickly entering Stealth. Doppleganger / Enrage with Locus of Control for Crowd Control. Destabilization for AoE.

Same video I watched when I was looking up crossbow builds, lol.

I do wish someone on youtube would make some more current build guides. Nerd Commando is always the first one to show up, and some of his builds look a little wonky, to be honest. The fact that he often skips lockpicking and hacking makes me think he must be playing on classic difficulty.

Anyway, I followed a variant of the Arbalist build, and one thing I didn't do was grab Temporal Manipulation. If I was going to change one thing, that'd probably be it. Well, that and the fact that I left my Will at 4.

Yeah, he has some good ideas but some of his choices I don't fully understand. I tried this build for a bit, loved / hated it, but eventually gave up. Just way too tedious with the quick tinkering nerf and very little crowd control.

Also, does anyone know if the XAL-001 causes self entanglement?

Yes, and acidic damage. You'll need Escape Artist for entanglement and 100% acid resistance to use XAL, but if you build for it the thing is INSANE (high DEX, high crit, advanced belt, and it comes out to about 6000 damage a hasted round). 100% acid resistance can be reached with CAU armor and infused tabis that mitigate acid.

Dang, the CAU seems really powerful with XAL. Wondering if it's even worth crafting my own riot armor then..

Does Opportunist apply to you if XAL entangles as well?

I think Travis in Rail Crossing sells incendiary collectors (always), and I also think the mutant map in Core City where the Cryo Orb mentor is has a cryogenic collector fixed. In both cases, I found these two places to carry them consistently. The vendor in SGS updates later also to different types.

Thank you! I finally found one after checking again.

General / Where can I find different collectors for the blob pistols?

I'm around level 12 and I haven't found any vendors that sell incendiary or cryogenic collectors. Are they really rare or do they show up later?

Builds / Re: Simple Energy Weapons Build. Is Riot armor "bad" ?
« on: April 18, 2020, 08:38:57 pm »
Go for more int rather than more dex.  Riot armor isn't "bad", it just generally isn't the best choice.  It is the best choice vs melee if you aren't wearing super heavy metal armor or maybe infused sea wyrm leather with dense padding.  Normal is actually easy, and you're a TM energy gunner, so you should only have any trouble near the start of the game.

I would put your spec points in high technicalities and crit power.

Thanks for the input. What would be the best balance between Dex vs Int?

Here's the build I've been toying with. Some questions I had:

- My main concern is that I've heard riot+shield isn't all that great? Keep in mind this is for normal difficulty.

- Would 10 INT be better for boosting High Technicalities rather than 16 DEX?

Builds / Re: Opinions on this Spear / Nade / Temporal Build?

Well, stealth is one of the OP mechanics of the game when you know how to (ab)use it. It let you choose exactly how you engage almost every fight in the game, and because every turn count in Underrail, this is a massive advantage.

But I still 100% recommend you play the build you planned, with minor adjustments. If you try too hard to play what is best, you alway end up with a Psychosis Cave Wizzard ^^

Sorry, I have yet another question in regards to spears, namely in light armor - Is "Guard" a wasted feat while already having maxed "Spear Guardian"?

Mercantile is a quality of life skill, so it will never be as impactful as your combat and crafting skills. That being said, it is a HUGE quality of life improvment when you want to craft anything. It makes finding high quality component immensly easier. For your build, the interesting components will likely be energy shield parts,  electroshock generators for the spear, vests for the armor and springs for the boots.

Okay cool.

All of these builds look nice. I am still skeptical about stealth though, mostly because I don't know how people play stealth-focused character without interloper lol

The one I used looked like this: http://underrail.info.tm/build/?Hg8GBwUDAwcAAADCoMKgwqDCkFdaAABTcgBcZgAAAAAAAFgkKDEAwpQGwpPCksKsSxINKSbCtl3ChcKdwq3CnsKf4p2NB-Knvgbis44C378
It was played in hard, that Dodge/Evasion style would fail in dominating. Also, I wanted to play a "pure" melee build, so I did not pick Temporal Manip and Throwing, but it would obviously make the build stronger. The build was overall extremely strong for hard difficulty, except in a few parts where the enemies spam rooting attacks. I should have included escape artist in the build, it would have been better. Also, I did not pick trap because I know where they are, but I don't recommend doing that ^^

Now if you want to take a look at existing builds, this excellent topic talks about something closer to your idea: https://underrail.com/forums/index.php?topic=4106.0

Thanks!

How big of a game changer is special merch from the mercantile skill?

A few points in Traps never hurt when you have low PER to help detection.
- Persuasion is not great, mercantile is generally a better pick (and on higher difficulty mercantile is extremely good to have).
- Snooping is (sadly) useless in the long run, you can find every secret with 3 PER as long as you can craft certain items.
- I would take cheap shots and crit power as soon as possible, those impale crits amazing, especially on a STR spear build. They also both work with spear throw, and a crit spear throw is a death sentence.
- With that much Throwing, Three Pointer is a solid option, but you'd need to lower your STR to get one more DEX.
- 25 points in Psychokynesis to get force field is always the best investment possible. It feels a bit cheap to abuse it though...

Now another problem I see is: it is a melee build with low init, no stealth, high armor penalty and low base movement points. Enemies will often get first strike, and running after them will be annoying as hell. On top of that, you will also need to move to your thrown spears to pick them up. I'm not saying the build wont work, just that it will be awkward to play at times. Personally, I would go for a light armour and get some stealth, but that would be another build.

Hope that helps, I've played quite a bit of melee spear, but not much spear throw, so my input might not be fully accurate ;)

Thanks for the response, I'll probably invest in traps then. Do you have a melee spear build that you use?
