question re lockpicking and hacking

Sorry if this is a naive question, but I did a quick search and didn't see another forum post asking this specific question:

Even if my lockpicking skill is high enough (e.g., 20) for a lock (e.g., 10), do I still need to use a lockpick in order to unlock it? I just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly, and not wasting lockpicks.

Same question for hacking.

That is correct. You need to use them and have the necessary skill to unlock doors/containers.

I'd also recommend testing it with a fresh save or a minimal setup first, just to make sure the issue isn't being caused by an older save or another mod. It can save a lot of troubleshooting time.
