I've been trying this one for a while and I can't seem to get it to work...any mutagen puzzle experts out there? I tried using the online tool but maybe I'm just dumb.

The mutagens are ok. If they didn't make a solvable puzzle, my site would have nagged about it.

What do you do to solve it? Is it depth/breadth-first search? Is there a simpler algorithm?

I was trying to do that kind of brute-force search and failed, because it turns out the ordering is significant. I was marking existing combinations to avoid traversing them again. This helped with amortized time. Had the ordering been irrelevant, I'd exploit the fact that mutagen count fits nicely in a machine word.
