Unplayable bug: Can't see my character or any other character

I can't see my character, any NPCs or enemies. The intro moves around like it's focusing on whoever is speaking but no one is there. I steal in the tutorial and vencel attacks and kills me, but I can't see or target him. I open the door and something is doing damage to me, there are spots I can't walk on, but whatever is there is as invisible as I am, only it can attack me and I can't target it.

I've tried: restarting, reinstalling, changing the resolution, full screen/windowed, vsync on/off, deleting config.dat and running in Windows 7 compatibility mode.

I'm using the gog version.

I've been unable to even find anyone else effected by the same bug. Any ideas to try?

Gog offline installer - I just downloaded from the website.

I downloaded and installed XNA Framework Redistributable 4.0 Refresh, problem persists, attached log is after that. I'm not sure how to check for other XNA versions, to be honest.

I also forgot to turn off win 7 compatibility mode for the attached log, which is the tutorial - talking to vencel then opening the door and getting hit by whatever enemy it is that's on the other side of the intercom.

I'm definitely interested in getting to the bottom of this so any other hassle I can go through I'm more than happy to!

Edit: Oh and file version reads 0.1.0.0 - feels like I should update that.

Edit2: it's underrail.exe that has that version number. Perhaps odd since the version I downloaded reads as 1.0.3.20 on gog.com

Ok, that all makes sense. My laptop has never had very much space so I always install games on an old external that is probably at death's door.

I am indeed running win10, I just couldn't find info on how to check xna version so I downloaded it just to be safe.

I'll uninstall and redownload via gog galaxy and see how we go, but alas for the moment it'll have to be on the same disk.

I'll update with the results and if the problem persists, well I'd planned to buy new hardware in feb or march.
