I don't think the dog crate works on hostile entities? Hostile hoppers can't be captured after all.
But there might be a distinction between hostile and "in combat" there.

Super-easy: capture them before they go hostile.
For those beyond "the line", you just incapacitate and capture.
You don't need to kill a single one.

Are the cats any different from normal ones upon capture, it would be really cool if they became an oddity upon capture (or you could sell them to some interested buyer related to a quest given by redacted)
